So, government runs the military and Veterans Administration system which after 9 years of military service and a tour in Iraq and Afghanistan I have been under and am satisfied with. As well as medicare which has an 80% approval rating. As for the DMV, um thats state controlled not federal so I dont know where you're going with that. I know this doesnt go w/ your right wing view so you'll probably block this but I'm just saying. Gov does not have all the answers but its not the enemy.

@DeuceMP2 I am glad that you are satisfied with your military healthcare but as a fellow veteran I have been so dismayed with mine that until I left the Army a year ago, I paid out of my own pocket for a private doctor. Not to add to that, the fact that the VA has been trying for 3 years to claim the shrapnel wounds I sustained were my fault and thereby not subject to medical payment by the govt. My bad I was standing in front of the bullet when someone fired it at me.

We have stroger hospital in cook county illinois and its an ok hospital.The wait is 8-24 hours,but its free.

I went there once,had to wait 18 hours in the emergency room,then seen a doctor,

The irony is my cousin went to a private hospital and had to wait 8 hours to see a doctor,and she had insurance,I could see maybe an hour or two,but 8 hours with private insurance.

I rather wait 16 hours and get it free.

Emergency Rooms are just examples of what the Federal Gov has already done to our health care. It's the Gov that caused those long waits, but you don't happen to know this. I'm an American and I love my country but we have some work to do.Over 45 million americans have no coverage.Countless more millions are underinsured.Being underinsured is almost as dangerous as having no protection.Employer-provided insurance might cover your everyday bumps and bruises, but it most likely wont support you if afflicted with something that requires extensive and/or expensive medical care.

We dont have to completely abandon our current system;but it sorely needs a facelift.

It comes down to a conflict of interest.Privatized healthcare is not necessarily "bad healthcare".Its just not always present healthcare.Most of the larger healthcare companies are publicly traded.They're first priority is to increase shareholder value,not to heal the sick.They need to turn a profit to stay viable.Spending hundreds of thousands on a dying cancer patient isnt cost-effective.Jacking up coverage rates and avoiding paying out on claims, is cost-effective.Its clearly a flawed system.

I don't think the govt should 'handle it' as your infer but there is a huge need of reconfiguration and streamlining of the process. The amount of paperwork and decentralization of the healthcare system in the US is part of what makes it expensive.

Good point with the video. I lived in former USSR for 17 years. Ambulances took 3 hours to arrive, and routine dental drilling was done without anaesthetics. Needle hygiene ? ... inconsistent.

The medical field used mostly outdated technology. As did everything else, really. Because the government was in charge of everything else, progress was stifled due to lack of competition.

In 1994, the use of abacus by cashiers in convenience stores was still widespread.

While I am not for government run healthcare, you forgot to mention the one shining example of government getting it right. The Postal Service pays for itself, provides a valuable service, and does an amazing job. So maybe the government can get it right at least once.
