@Tdhred you click on the tiny square at the bottom corner of the Paragraph Ribbon box, on the Home tab. then you set the spacing how you want it. then click on default and choose yes.

Okay, I don't know if you solved the problem yet but here's the answer. You go to paragraph (Right click on the blank paper, choose paragraph. It's going to appear a box, down in the left part is a button called "Tabs...". Click it, it's going to appear another box and then you do the adjustments you need to do. The default tab is 0.5"
