I am very thankful that we have a mormonism in our world now.I am very thankful for Joseph Smith for loving and asking of God.I am so blessed now becaused I was baptised by the Priesthood Authority in The Church of Jesus Christ in The Latterday Saints.
Baha'ullah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, Joseph Smith, the 19th century had its share of (mildly) successful prophets. Well, at least, all three of them were less arrogant and bellicose than Muhammad.
I have been in the presence of the current prophet President Thomas S. Monson in the Kirtland Temple, and I know as a fact that he is the prophet of the Lord on the earth today. He speaks our Heavenly Father's words and is a servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Truth IS once again on the earth and I am extremely thankful for it. May Heavenly Father bless all who seek to do righteously.
Isaiahs writings have been described as the Brussels sprouts of the scriptures. We know theyre good for us— the Savior commanded us to search them diligently—but some of us read them reluctantly, hurriedly . . . or not at all.
It's my opinion that there are at least a few immutable laws that govern all things in all places, and that even God adheres to these laws (some would argue that he is part of such laws or created these laws). Other laws may be specific for individual realms or spheres and cannot typically be broken (or broken frequently) without causing havoc in that sphere. Science is the tool by which we can learn something of these laws as they pertain to our mortal existence.
heres my thinking on science. yes, there had to be the big bang theory!! because od had to create the universe somehow!!! if he is smart enough to make human kind wih individual likes and looks and everything about nature then he was smart enough to make everything that made up everythig in everything!!!!! isn't that what science is!!!! finding out the smallest little detail!!!!! if i am wrong please correct me!!! but just think!!! he had to make everything so he soud know all right?!
Some Day all will come to know the Truth in Christ & May that Truth shall set all free... Coz there is nothing in addings to THE BIBLE ! Let HOLY SPIRIT lead us all towards the truth... & the truth is in CHRIST & HIS WORDS !
Don't ever make false accusations about any church. And don't make fun of our previous prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. He had a harder life than any of you ever will. So don't dis us if you don't know what you are talking about.
there were lots of people that liked it when Jesus fed them, but did not beleive what he taught. Perhaps God is seeking those that are able to feel his spirit because that is what Jesus said would teach truth. Read Jesus sermon and prayer that he gave to his disciples the night before his crucifixion, then listen to this program again and see if you feel the same spirit speaking to your soul). The people that followed Jesus hadn't ever even heard of the Bible.
This basically tells me the beginning of Mormonism...Your "prophet" basically uses flowery words, but the title to this is not correct....it should say "Mormonism: The beginning."
quick question... if joseph smith was a prophet of your church and you believe in him and what he said, why doesn't the LDS believe in polygamy anymore as the FDLS does? if you question and ban one part of mr smith's teachings, why trust anything he said and wrote? i've always wondered about this.
What "evidence" would actually help you believe? To ask for evidence of things spiritual is no game. If you're not sincerely seeking truth you won't be granted answers, it doesn't work like that. To receive knowledge of God and His plan requires faith, even if it is that of a mustard seed (small). Until then, you have no hope of the evidence you seek.
You tell my why faith is good. Why is belief without evidence a virtue? Ask yourself this: do you think that Muslim suicide bombers are justified just because they have faith? They actually believe they will go to paradise with 72 virgins. This is their "faith". Tell me why faith is good???
There are certainly wrong beliefs about the unseen, or a distortion of the truth that causes people to think they are doing a noble thing for an unseen God. I don't think faith for faith's sake (as an end in itself) is a virtue, but faith that leads us to a bigger reality (which encompasses the unseen) is a virtue.
Dont you know that there is more then one nation and kindred? The bible testifies of christ and his people in jeruslem, and the book of mormon testifies of christs people in America.
Mormonism is heresy. It is not "the one true church" as stated in the video, and I take the implied accusation that we traditional Christians believe a lie (no matter how friendly the voice of the man saying it was) as a challenge, if you wish to accuse me of attacking your false religion unprovoked.
"First, your missionaries can be motivated through your personal interviews with them," he said.
That first contact that a missionary has with his or her president is all-important. President Monson counseled the presidents to greet new missionaries at the airport or train depot. Welcome them "to the greatest mission in the world."
Thou shalt not take away or add to the World of God. Anyone who adds will be added the horrible plagues mentioned in Revelation. Anyone who takes away will lose all access to the tree of life for all eternity. Go ahead. Call me a fool, but if Mormonism was the true Gospel, then why wasn't it accepted and followed in the very beginning? The Word of God came, then everyone else came up with a whole bunch of nonsense because they rejected the Truth!
"The Word of God came, then everyone else came up with a whole bunch of nonsense because they rejected the Truth!"
And that is what we call the apostasy--the falling away from the truth that happened after Jesus left and after the apostles were killed. The authority of God was lost and gradually thousands of different Christian sects sprung up.
We believe that there was a restoration of the Church through the prophet Joseph Smith in 1830 with the authority and original teachings of Christ
Man i am glad that the LDS have never added anything or taken anything away from the word of God. Makes me glad to know that I am a latter day saint and have no need to add to anything or take anything away.
Did the ancient people believe in Jesus Christ when He was still with them? I know brother that He Jesus Christ restored His Church upon the earth on this last dispensation and that's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. You are welcome to investigate and ask questions then tell your story.
Let me just list some of my problems with Mormonism. The time gap between the beginning and Joseph Smith's "discovery" is way too big. Also, don't you think there's a problem with obeying the Bible and Mormonism simultaneously".The Bible and the book of Mormon contradict each other. You're trying to obey both books. Also,a just God will not let sin go unpunished. We've commited infinite sin and enjoyed infinite blessings.Jesus' sacrifice saves us spiritually because humans can't be righteous alone.
I'm not sure what you mean by the "time gap." Of course we realize the Restoration of the church took place in 1830--but again, it was a restoration, not the original creation.
And no, I don't think there's a problem with obeying the Book of Mormon and Bible because they teach the same gospel of Jesus Christ.
PIMP "The Bible and the book of Mormon contradict each other"? I THINK...The contradiction is between the Bible & the readers (your pastors & ministers) They do not see eye to eye with each other when it comes to their interpretations of the Holy Bible. When they don't agree with the shepherd, the sheep would start their own little flocks & the world is full of it. Does not the Bible say that there is: One Lord, One Faith & One Baptism? One Jesus, One Church & One Baptism by immersion, etc..
if your going to say something that the bible says, quote it, because without it you come with NO authority over the matter!
and YES OF COURSE THEY CONTRADICT! have you heard of the pearl of great price?
and havent you heard? many will come in jesus name, but in the day of judgement Jesus will say apart from me doers of evil for i do not know you Matthew 24. Dont be fooled! the God of the bible is ONE!
A fool is one who thinks he knows but does not .A fool calls good evil and evil good. (Rom. 16: 25) 25 Now to him that is of power to astablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the bmystery, which was kept secret since the world began, (Gal. 1: 12) 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
The truth of all things are recieved by revelations through the HOLY SPRIT.
contradiction ? the holy spirit reveals the truth to all men if what we teach is not true the holy spirit would tell us so , but I see you have not recieved a personal witness to know that . and are babbling out of fear and hate
@pimpmyride666 By your biblical reference I am assuming you are talking about revelation 22:18. Biblical Scholars have established that the Book of John was written AFTER the book of Revelation. Thereby if Revelation 22:18 was correct, then the whole book of John would have to be dismissed.
The fire of the covenant will burn in the heart of every faithful member of this Church who shall worship and honorably hold a name and standing in the Lords holy house.
If God is Just then he couldn't possibly have given anyone/ any religion the Answers. Gee what if God gives you a life so he can see how good you'll be to others when you THINK you have the one true Religion? Are you going to spend your entire life just trying to convince others to believe your way? You really think God is superficial & judges on what people think? Or on whether they chose the correct religion? Or went thru the correct rituals?
Robert Gardner knew what it meant to deal with change in his life. He followed the counsel of the Brethren, accepting calls to serve when it was not convenient.
He records, I looked and spit, took off my hat and scratched [my head] and thought and said; All right (Robert Gardner Jr. Self History and Journal, 35; emphasis added).
this is nonsense how you say not subjecting in your entirety to a mound of spurious wicked books written by ignorant men is not living by morals clearly innate in us and by human solidarity. this is madness, i believe in reason and following the truth were ever it takes you. for example you are probably offended by the proposition that you are a primate, then refute it with reason and not superstition
mormonism is fase. Any church that says that they alone teach the correct gospel and that all other christian denominations are incorrect is wrong. However i will make a special exception for the book of mormon, and mormonism as a whole. You see since the book of mormon and the entire mormon religion is based upon contradictory teachings than that of the teachings in the bible, i'm going to say that mormonism may actually be considered the most incorrect of all. Other than jehovas false witness
It is a natural consequence of bad choices made by individuals, communities, countries, and entire civilizations. This has been proven again and again throughout the course of time
Now, I need to be very clear about these historically reoccurring periods of apostasy and spiritual darkness. Our Heavenly Father loves all of His children, and He wants them all to have the blessings of the gospel in their lives. Spiritual light is not lost because God turns His back on His children. Rather, spiritual darkness results when His children turn their collective backs on Him.
If Heavenly Father wants all of His children to have the blessings of the gospel in their lives then why do you claim God made you forget everything when you were born? Was it so he could make you try to guess which Religion you were having the correct good feelings about? You really think God's test of your life is to see if you judge your feelings correctly? Oh, was that a warm feeling in my bosom? Wait the Muslims said they felt the same thing. They're dying for their Religion everyday.
when we passed throught the veil of pre-Earth life of the spirit world to the mortal existance, we did not remember because how easy would it be after that? if we remember God, heaven, etc, how easy would it be to follow His plan?? we would have had NO doubts at all, so there would be no point in free will. we are here to gain a body and a family so that we can be like our Heavenly Father and return to Him. to explain everything better i would need more than 500 characters hahaha
You can't understand that can you? Do you see the conflict in your logic? You said "Heavenly Father wants all of His children to have the blessings of the gospel in their lives" and then you claim God made you forget all you knew about the gospel when you were born. So why did he make you forget when he wants you to know about it and "have the blessings of it in your life?"
because knowledge and understanding has to be discovered for one self. any father would understand that i simply cannot tell my children not to put their hands in the fire because it will hurt, children need to feel the pain so they learn. and we need to feel the pain so we can know joy. god could have told us everything but how is that ever a test of our faith and i know if i was told everything someone of my most precious thoughts and ideas would be lost.
In the relatively short span of years covered by the New Testament, the historic pattern repeats itself again. This time the people turned against Christ and His Apostles. The collapse was so great we have come to know it as the Great Apostasy, which led to the centuries of spiritual stagnation and ignorance called the Dark Ages.
What do Mormons believe? Do Mormons believe in latter-day prophets? What do Mormons believe about Joseph Smith? Do Mormons believe Jesus Christ and God appeared to a young boy? How was Mormonism started?
President Gordon B. Hinckley shares his testimony of the origins of Mormonism, better known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church or "Mormonism").
I sent a reply then left the sight then came back but it wasnt posted so I'll try this, I was refering to the black Israelits as morons. I am not mormon but I do admire there works! Also I believe it is ok to be offensive in the right setting. Jesus often times offended the pharisees and in Matthew 15:24 Jesus refered to a woman asking for help as a female dog. In todays language it would have started with a B and is concidered very offensive. But she had a right spirit about it.
Also, I find it interesting that there are many references to technologies, animals, people, languages, etc. that have been proven to not exist in pre-Columbian America.
Almost like someone that was uneducated and from the 1800's had completely fabricated the story. Joseph Smith should have a least done better research.
You realize that only a small percentage of the ruins in Central and South American have been excavated? There have been a number of "anachronisms" that people used to also have on that list....until in recent years they were found in those areas and now serve as an evidence of the historicity of the Book of Mormon.
From a non Mormon point of view, the BoM is an extremely dry and boring read. Mark Twain said that:
"Wherever he found his speech growing too modern -- which was about every sentence or two -- he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as 'exceeding sore,' 'and it came to pass,' etc., and made things satisfactory again. 'And it came to pass' was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet."
Wonder what Mark also thought of the Bible. I'm sure he could have said similar things about lots of sections in the Old Testament, for example.
Before you knock "and it came to pass", you should understand that it is actually an evidence for the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. The Hebrew form of the expression "and it came to pass" (wayehi) is found in the Hebrew Bible 1204 times, but only translated as "and it came to pass" by the KJV 727 times.
The ancient writers of the BoM used the phrase "and it came to pass" as a "structural marker that tells the reader to begin a new section." (Gardner, 25) This is in keeping with ancient writing practices.
The phrase is found in an ancient Maya glyph (pronounced u-ti, Coe). The phrase in ancient Maya is used for the same functional reason as for the BoM, to control the flow of action, or to mark a new section (Lund)( Gardner, 25).
Watch the you tube video called black hebrew Christians. Its where 2 mormons try to witness to black jews and the black guys are rude but knowledgable in the Word. It should be called MORMONS VS. MORONS
President Gordon B. Hinckley shares his testimony of the origins of Mormonism, better known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church or "Mormonism").
You see, the truth is like a big game of telephone. When Jesus Christ was living, almost everybody knew the truth. After he died for our sins, nobody really passed the truth along. Some people told it wrong, and this is why we have different religions. Millions of LDS are trying to give everybody a second chance. Lets all try to spread the truth. The world would be a better place. So think about it. The thruth is all a big game of telephone...
Wherefore, I will explain unto you this mystery, for it is meet unto you to know even as mine apostles.
For, behold, the mystery of godliness, how great is it! For, behold, I am endless, and the punishment which is given from my hand is endless punishment, for Endless is my name. Wherefore—
Eternal punishment is Gods punishment.
Endless punishment is Gods punishment. (D&C 19:412.)
Love reading the comments. Nothing like a bunch of theists arguing about which invisible guy is more imaginary. It's like opening the doors in an insane asylum and watching the patients duke it out on security cameras. Could totally turn that into a reality show and make some money off of it. Although it wouldn't be tax-free, sadly :(
Hey now. At least I don't try and "recruit" people to the "one and only true faith" by going door-to-door and bothering people. I limit my opinions to youtube. Which is a lot more than I can say for your fellow mormons.
Well I would like to think it's very different. I'd say that someone posting their opinion on a public website is significantly different from them coming to my front door and telling me their opinion in person.
It's like comparing a "used cars" section in the local paper to having a crowd of used car salesmen lined up outside your house trying to outshout each other as they peddle their crapmobiles. I'm exaggerating, of course, but you get the idea.
Everyone's definitely entitled to their opinion, I think the differences are fairly minor--one is using a traditional approach, one with a newer approach.
Missionaries are out to spread the truth, the conversion process takes place between an individual and the Lord, through the power of the Holy Ghost, one needs to be open minded and willing to listen
Most missionaries don't know the true origins of Joseph & how his own mother said he told "tall tales". Joseph was a manipulative liar who took his friends' wives for his own. Boy how I wish he'd been shot when he started doing that. He was a charmer who used his charm to lie to others in order to get what he wanted. He was a false prophet & an insult to God. What a miserable excuse to call it a church. It's nothing more than a cult which tries to hide behind the name of Jesus in their title.
Show me that quote from Lucy Mack Smith. It does not exist.
When you can't find that quote, perhaps you'll realize that you rely too heavily on second or third-hand sources with their own agendas, and also realize that many of your other claims are baseless.
President Gordon B. Hinckley shares his testimony of the origins of Mormonism, better known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church or "Mormonism"). What do Mormons believe?
Incorrect, like I mentioned to Nathanael in a prior message. We understand it's free.... but you do have to work for it. Jesus didn't sit back and chill.... he set the example for us and he did just that... he did tasks for his father. He taught and preached to those who didn't understand. He set examples such as baptism and to love one another. So yes, you have to earn your spot.... it's not just given. The LDS church assigns tasks to us that only improve our families and our church.
your right "Jesus didn't sit back and chill" because he never even existed. Also "loving one another" is a basic human instinct, and doesnt require religion or some guy telling everyone whats right and wrong
Technically, "love one another" isn't a human's basic instinct. Biologically, humans are, by nature, mere animals and though we have sophisticated, we are not naturally "loveable" beings. If someone did you wrong, wouldn't one of your first instincts be to get revenge? Well, Jesus teaches that you LOVE the person who did you wrong. That concept was taught to us; we do not have that capacity naturally. Love is almost a behavior; if you are not taught it, you will not know to use it. Jesus LOVES.
Mormons, please do your research. The whole thing is simply not what it claims to be.
It takes a commitment to truth to become disposed to accept the logical consequences of your beliefs even when they conflict with what others tell you or what you want to believe.
Why do you believe that only by reading the Book of Mormon can you become closer to Jesus and be a better person?
How do you view people like me who read the Bible only and are saved by the grace of God? Where will our place be in heaven? Will we be there? Will you be there with us? What happened to all the people that have died before the Book of Mormon was known to man in the 1800's?
We don't believe that only reading the BOM will get you closer to Christ and a better person. I used to be a Baptist, and only read the Bible, like yourself. Yes, you'll be in Heaven. (Maybe we'll see eachother and party hardy! LOL) But when we talk about the BOM, we use it as an extra source; its like saying the Bible is a gormet sandwich with fries, and the BOM completes it with a drink and dessert. The BOM compliments the Bible, and helps explain some things in it. It does not replace it. :)
MormonGurl - Thanks for your kind words and willingness to engage. Part of my issue with mormonism is the difference between what the Bible says is necessary for salvation and what mormonism states salvation is. I will try to summarise and let me know if I'm wrong. Bible - Two groups of people, those who are saved and those who are currently perishing. Salvation by grace through faith alone. Mormonism - General salvation to everyone by grace and higher glory (heaven) through works. No hell.
Hello. I am curious as to why you left your Baptist roots and became a member of the LDS church. I once was a Mormon but about three years ago I was told the true story of who Jesus is. Was told just how important His life, death, and resurrection was in order to save mankind. The truth behind the cross was something that was not taught. I had no real assurance or trust that anything I did as a Mormon would be enough. And Jesus did everything when we could do nothing, :-} @MormonGurl1208
@galatianstwo21 LDS teach that Jesus died so all could live again, they teach that everyone will receive a Kingdom through Jesus blood, (except Satan and his Angels and those that actually knew God then rejected him) Does your new belief teach that those that don't believe in Jesus will go to hell to burn for all eternity?
So you think we should all kick back and relax? The way I see it is we should educate others about what we can all do in spreading the word and sharing knowledge. Why not take on tasks that are assigned to teach your family, strangers, etc. Why not volunteer at your church and give a helping hand? If I understand it.... Jesus didn't sit back waiting to die. He took on tasks given to him by his father no matter how hard they were. Such as dying for us. . .
i believe that all that have been said in this video is true,The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true living chruch in this world and all of this i leave in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
Mormons claim that orthodox Christianity has gone into apostacy and therefore, J Smith was needed to restore the priesthood. This is absurd because the 3 nephites and the John have the priesthood and never died and have been roaming the earth for the last 2000 years. Based on this claim, J. Smith would not have had to restore any priesthood since it was never lost. Therefore, his fabricated stories alone expose his fraud and inconsistencies.
By His own mouth He has bore witness that it is true (D&C 17:6), that it contains the truth and His words (D&C 19:26), that it was translated by power from on high (D&C 20:8), that it contains the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ (D&C 20:9, D&C 42:12), that it was given by inspiration and confirmed by the ministering of angels (D&C 20:10), that it gives evidence that the holy scriptures are true (D&C 20:11), and that those who receive it in faith shall receive eternal life (D&C 20:14).
Mormonism is simply an even less believable version of christianity...anyone who says jesus and god appeared in the woods better have damn good evidence..so...where is it?
Why couldn't they? They both appeared to Stephen in Acts 7. We have the testimony of Joseph Smith and also the witness of the Holy Ghost testifying of its validity to those who sincerely pray about it. Moroni 10:5 "And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of ALL things." (emphasis added). You do know what the Scriptures say about sign seekers, right?
President Gordon B. Hinckley shares his testimony of the origins of Mormonism, better known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church or "Mormonism").
In response to galatianstwo21 the Book of Mormon is not an add on to the Bible but another testament of Jesus Christ, it says it on the cover. Actually that scripture is quoted to the missionaries all the time and they can come up with several BIBLE references that say a book like the Book of Mormon is allowable and is not against any Bible scripture. That scripture has been misinterpreted.
Interesting, I have read all the comments and it seems everytime someone has questioned mormons, the mormons have a legitimate answer with biblical evidence. Very interesting
So this guy is saying that..the thousands of thousands people in Isreal is lying ..and that Jesus came down to america instead wich no one have really witness'd. well thats a HUUUGE hole in your logic old geezer..
And to belive that some dude had to golden plates and ..a hat?
I would suggest you learn more before you make judgments. We believe the Bible and that Jesus was born, lived, taught, died, and was resurrected in Israel.
We believe that after His ascension to heaven, He then visited the people in the Americas.
Sounds good! Always up for a respectful discussion.
To learn more, some places you might want to start are mormon*org, lds*org, lightplanet*com. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or want to talk more.
and James 1:5 states . . . If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. The entire Bible is God's Word which if searched and read diligently one is able to gain Wisdom. Joseph Smith may very well have seen a vision but it was Satan hiding himself in light. He was being tested by God to see if he would follow the true LORD God, or follow after another god, a god created by mans own imagination. He lacked faith
Please look into these things. The church tells you not to read or view things that question your faith. That is a control tactic used by cults. Cults want control. Does the age of Joseph Smith cause anyone to doubt? He was barely a teenager. He had a huge track record of false testimonies. He had access to a Bible to find God's truth but he wanted man's praise over praising the one True God who gave him life. Please consider this and step outside the Mormonism box and view it openly.
One of our apostles, Elder M. Russell Ballard, has recently encouraged members of the Church to come online and join the discussion about the Church. Do you really think they are trying to "mind control" us? If they were, they wouldn't encourage members to get involved like that.
You claim that by age 14, Joseph Smith had a "huge track record of false testimonies." Oh really? I would love to see how much evidence you have on Joseph Smith's life before the First Vision.
According to your churches official doctrine--The Articles of Faith, you don't believe the Holy Word of God, The Holy Bible to be 100% accurate--it's only believed to be accurate as far as it was translated correctly. Joseph Smith didn't think any church on earth was true, right? So he prayed to God to lead him in the right way, right? So Mormonism uses particular verses out of context to help support traditions brought up by Joseph Smith-- i.e. James 1:5
Joseph Smith states in his history that the purpose of his asking the Lord was to know WHICH of the churches was right. He was answered that he should join none of them. While they had some truth, they did not have the fulness yet--that was to be restored.
That's right--I believe 100% in the Bible if it's translated correctly. With the countless different versions of the Bible that interpret verses different ways, I think that it's important to clarify.
So then you believe 100% of the King James Version which the LDS church uses, right? How do you respond to Revelation 22:18? For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book
Or how do you respond to Revelation 22:19? And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but many sections of the Book of Mormon were copied from the Holy Bible. Here are two specific examples for you to check: D & C 110 Revelation 1. Carefully read how the Bible was rewrote & changed.
The LORD God Almighty doesn't take lightly anyone who modifies or changes His word. He commands severe punishments as is noted in Revelation 22He commands His people to not change His Holy Word in Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32. Deuteronomy 28 shows the blessings God will provide for obedience and the curses for disobedience. Disobedience is adding, taking away, and changing His holy and sacred Word. I pray that you will look into these passages carefully and examine things honestly.
I think it's interesting that you mention Deuteronomy 4:2 along with Revelation 22, because essentially the same thing is written in Deut. as Revelation. Does that mean that everything in the Bible after Deuteronomy is not valid because it was written after that warning?
Of course not! That warning was written for Deuteronomy, just as Revelation 22:18-19. The Bible had not yet been compiled yet and would not be for quite some time.
Therefore, when John wrote that, he was referring only to Revelation. In fact, many Christian scholars now admit that Revelation was probably not the last book in the Bible that John wrote. Therefore, was John "adding" to the word when he wrote the gospel, for example?
I think it's clear that nothing in the Bible precludes God from giving more of His word, if He chooses to.
Galatians 2:21 states . . . I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"
If we as humans could do things to gain salvation, why then would God have sent His only Begotten Son to die on the Cross. It would have been a wasted life. It would be contradictory to God's character. It would make people question why He even sent Christ in the first place. Which is why you should question Mormon doctrine. God is not mocked.
God does command that we follow the commandments given to us. However, the commandments were not initially given to us for that reason. They were to show us our weakness before God--that we are incapable of living without His grace and love. Galatians 3 explains why the law was instituted . . . v. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
and consequently he decided to follow a god molded by his own imagination, which violated the Second Commandment. He also violated the 1st Commandment . . . You shall have no other gods before me. 2nd Commandment . . . You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. Not did he violate such commandments, but he nullified the grace of God by creating his own laws which state how one enters into eternal life with God.
If your boss gave you a Christmas bonus and a week later called you into his office and said, "I'm gonna need you to come in for the next four weekends to work off the bonus." Would you consider it a gift then? Galatians 2:21 states, I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ died in vain. Romans 3:20 states, Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. God bless!!
It's interesting that you say that lindalds. Because I recently read the Articles of Faith of Mormon doctrine and your church believes that all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. It's impossible to obey any law given by God perfectly--unless you're God, like Jesus who was 100% God and 100% man. God states quite clearly in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the 'gift' of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Gifts require nothing
Joseph Smith showed nothing new to this world. He was a dreamer who has deceived many. I challenge all ye who watch this video to read Deuteronomy 13. Read the entire chapter of Galatians in the Bible which rebukes faith by works of the Law. Mormonism teaches that justification with God is by the Grace of God after all the righteous deeds they can do, 2 Nephi 25:23 yet the prophet Isaiah stated in Isaiah 64:6 . . .all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags . . .
We don't teach works of the Law. We teach following the commandments of Christ Jesus.
Nephi, tho, was talking about the works of the Law and how they did them then because that was what God wanted THEN. And that God's grace was what was going to save them, not the works they did. Nephi knew that the Law was only to show them how impossible it was to save ourselves, it only showed us how only Christ could pay for our sins and save us.

Science is the tool by which we can learn something of these laws as they pertain to our mortal existence.
omiolo 1 year ago
heres my thinking on science. yes, there had to be the big bang theory!! because od had to create the universe somehow!!! if he is smart enough to make human kind wih individual likes and looks and everything about nature then he was smart enough to make everything that made up everythig in everything!!!!! isn't that what science is!!!! finding out the smallest little detail!!!!! if i am wrong please correct me!!! but just think!!! he had to make everything so he soud know all right?!

there were lots of people that liked it when Jesus fed them, but did not beleive what he taught.

DecemberControversy 2 years ago
What "evidence" would actually help you believe? To ask for evidence of things spiritual is no game. If you're not sincerely seeking truth you won't be granted answers, it doesn't work like that. To receive knowledge of God and His plan requires faith, even if it is that of a mustard seed (small). Until then, you have no hope of the evidence you seek.
CorbinAllred 2 years ago 2
You tell my why faith is good. Why is belief without evidence a virtue? Ask yourself this: do you think that Muslim suicide bombers are justified just because they have faith? They actually believe they will go to paradise with 72 virgins. This is their "faith". Tell me why faith is good???
DecemberControversy 2 years ago
There are certainly wrong beliefs about the unseen, or a distortion of the truth that causes people to think they are doing a noble thing for an unseen God. I don't think faith for faith's sake (as an end in itself) is a virtue, but faith that leads us to a bigger reality (which encompasses the unseen) is a virtue.

Interview each of the new missionaries and learn about their background, their families and their objectives. Take careful notes.
Those interviews that a mission president has with elders and sisters already serving in the field can also inspire and motivate, he said.
omiolo 2 years ago

The Word of God came, then everyone else came up with a whole bunch of nonsense because they rejected the Truth!
pimpmyride666 2 years ago 20
"The Word of God came, then everyone else came up with a whole bunch of nonsense because they rejected the Truth!"
And that is what we call the apostasy--the falling away from the truth that happened after Jesus left and after the apostles were killed. The authority of God was lost and gradually thousands of different Christian sects sprung up.
We believe that there was a restoration of the Church through the prophet Joseph Smith in 1830 with the authority and original teachings of Christ

We've commited infinite sin and enjoyed infinite blessings.Jesus' sacrifice saves us spiritually because humans can't be righteous alone.
pimpmyride666 2 years ago 4
I'm not sure what you mean by the "time gap." Of course we realize the Restoration of the church took place in 1830--but again, it was a restoration, not the original creation.
And no, I don't think there's a problem with obeying the Book of Mormon and Bible because they teach the same gospel of Jesus Christ.
Have you read the Book of Mormon in its entirety?

PIMP "The Bible and the book of Mormon contradict each other"? I THINK...The contradiction is between the Bible & the readers (your pastors & ministers) They do not see eye to eye with each other when it comes to their interpretations of the Holy Bible. When they don't agree with the shepherd, the sheep would start their own little flocks & the world is full of it. Does not the Bible say that there is: One Lord, One Faith & One Baptism? One Jesus, One Church & One Baptism by immersion, etc..

It is a natural consequence of bad choices made by individuals, communities, countries, and entire civilizations. This has been proven again and again throughout the course of time
omiolo 2 years ago
Now, I need to be very clear about these historically reoccurring periods of apostasy and spiritual darkness. Our Heavenly Father loves all of His children, and He wants them all to have the blessings of the gospel in their lives. Spiritual light is not lost because God turns His back on His children. Rather, spiritual darkness results when His children turn their collective backs on Him.
omiolo 2 years ago

Diverstudpaull 2 years ago
You can't understand that can you? Do you see the conflict in your logic? You said "Heavenly Father wants all of His children to have the blessings of the gospel in their lives" and then you claim God made you forget all you knew about the gospel when you were born. So why did he make you forget when he wants you to know about it and "have the blessings of it in your life?"
KidsandKarma 2 years ago 3
because knowledge and understanding has to be discovered for one self. any father would understand that i simply cannot tell my children not to put their hands in the fire because it will hurt, children need to feel the pain so they learn. and we need to feel the pain so we can know joy. god could have told us everything but how is that ever a test of our faith and i know if i was told everything someone of my most precious thoughts and ideas would be lost.

In the relatively short span of years covered by the New Testament, the historic pattern repeats itself again. This time the people turned against Christ and His Apostles. You realize that only a small percentage of the ruins in Central and South American have been excavated? There have been a number of "anachronisms" that people used to also have on that list....until in recent years they were found in those areas and now serve as an evidence of the historicity of the Book of Mormon.
lds9999 2 years ago
From a non Mormon point of view, the BoM is an extremely dry and boring read. Mark Twain said that:
"Wherever he found his speech growing too modern -- which was about every sentence or two -- he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as 'exceeding sore,' 'and it came to pass,' etc., and made things satisfactory again. 'And it came to pass' was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet."
I agree with Mark in that respect.
renderreason 2 years ago 3
Wonder what Mark also thought of the Bible. I'm sure he could have said similar things about lots of sections in the Old Testament, for example.
Before you knock "and it came to pass", you should understand that it is actually an evidence for the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. The Hebrew form of the expression "and it came to pass" (wayehi) is found in the Hebrew Bible 1204 times, but only translated as "and it came to pass" by the KJV 727 times.
lds9999 2 years ago
The ancient writers of the BoM used the phrase "and it came to pass" as a "structural marker that tells the reader to begin a new section." (Gardner, 25) This is in keeping with ancient writing practices.
The phrase is found in an ancient Maya glyph (pronounced u-ti, Coe). The phrase in ancient Maya is used for the same functional reason as for the BoM, to control the flow of action, or to mark a new section (Lund)( Gardner, 25).

The LDS church assigns tasks to us that only improve our families and our church.
andresx101 2 years ago
your right "Jesus didn't sit back and chill" because he never even existed. Also "loving one another" is a basic human instinct, and doesnt require religion or some guy telling everyone whats right and wrong
HyperTube27 2 years ago
Technically, "love one another" isn't a human's basic instinct. Biologically, humans are, by nature, mere animals and though we have sophisticated, we are not naturally "loveable" beings. If someone did you wrong, wouldn't one of your first instincts be to get revenge? Well, Jesus teaches that you LOVE the person who did you wrong. That concept was taught to us; we do not have that capacity naturally. Love is almost a behavior; if you are not taught it, you will not know to use it. Jesus LOVES.
MormonGurl1208 2 years ago
Does the Bible say that it is something that is earned or does it say that it is a free gift given by grace?
If something is freely given by grace why are you saying you have to work for it? What amount of work is enough to earn your spot?

Salvation cannot be gained through works!
God died for you on the cross.
Salvation is gained through grace, it's a free gift! not something that is earned!
The last shall be first.

Such as dying for us. . .

Mormonism is simply an even less believable version of christianity...anyone who says jesus and god appeared in the woods better have damn good evidence..so...where is it?
vinavichi 2 years ago
Why couldn't they? They both appeared to Stephen in Acts 7. We have the testimony of Joseph Smith and also the witness of the Holy Ghost testifying of its validity to those who sincerely pray about it. Moroni 10:5 "And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of ALL things." (emphasis added). You do know what the Scriptures say about sign seekers, right?

In response to galatianstwo21 the Book of Mormon is not an add on to the Bible but another testament of Jesus Christ, it says it on the cover. Actually that scripture is quoted to the missionaries all the time and they can come up with several BIBLE references that say a book like the Book of Mormon is allowable and is not against any Bible scripture. That scripture has been misinterpreted.

Interesting, I have read all the comments and it seems everytime someone has questioned mormons, the mormons have a legitimate answer with biblical evidence. Very interesting

I would suggest you learn more before you make judgments. We believe the Bible and that Jesus was born, lived, taught, died, and was resurrected in Israel.
We believe that after His ascension to heaven, He then visited the people in the Americas.

and James 1:5 states . . He lacked faith
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
How do you know?
lds9999 3 years ago
Please look into these things. The church tells you not to read or view things that question your faith. That is a control tactic used by cults. Cults want control. Does the age of Joseph Smith cause anyone to doubt? He was barely a teenager. He had a huge track record of false testimonies. He had access to a Bible to find God's truth but he wanted man's praise over praising the one True God who gave him life. Please consider this and step outside the Mormonism box and view it openly.
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
One of our apostles, Elder M. Russell Ballard, has recently encouraged members of the Church to come online and join the discussion about the Church. Do you really think they are trying to "mind control" us? If they were, they wouldn't encourage members to get involved like that.
You claim that by age 14, Joseph Smith had a "huge track record of false testimonies." Oh really? I would love to see how much evidence you have on Joseph Smith's life before the First Vision.
lds9999 3 years ago
According to your churches official doctrine--The Articles of Faith, you don't believe the Holy Word of God, The Holy Bible to be 100% accurate--it's only believed to be accurate as far as it was translated correctly. Joseph Smith didn't think any church on earth was true, right? So he prayed to God to lead him in the right way, right? So Mormonism uses particular verses out of context to help support traditions brought up by Joseph Smith-- i.e. James 1:5
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
Joseph Smith states in his history that the purpose of his asking the Lord was to know WHICH of the churches was right. He was answered that he should join none of them. While they had some truth, they did not have the fulness yet--that was to be restored.
That's right--I believe 100% in the Bible if it's translated correctly. With the countless different versions of the Bible that interpret verses different ways, I think that it's important to clarify.
lds9999 3 years ago
So then you believe 100% of the King James Version which the LDS church uses, right? How do you respond to Revelation 22:18? For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
Or how do you respond to Revelation 22:19? And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but many sections of the Book of Mormon were copied from the Holy Bible. Here are two specific examples for you to check: D & C 110 Revelation 1. Carefully read how the Bible was rewrote & changed.
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
The LORD God Almighty doesn't take lightly anyone who modifies or changes His word. He commands severe punishments as is noted in Revelation 22He commands His people to not change His Holy Word in Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32. Deuteronomy 28 shows the blessings God will provide for obedience and the curses for disobedience. Disobedience is adding, taking away, and changing His holy and sacred Word. I pray that you will look into these passages carefully and examine things honestly.
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
I think it's interesting that you mention Deuteronomy 4:2 along with Revelation 22, because essentially the same thing is written in Deut. as Revelation. Does that mean that everything in the Bible after Deuteronomy is not valid because it was written after that warning?
Of course not! That warning was written for Deuteronomy, just as Revelation 22:18-19. The Bible had not yet been compiled yet and would not be for quite some time.
lds9999 3 years ago

God is not mocked.
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
We cannot gain salvation on our own. It is only through the grace of Christ that we can be saved.
However, God has given us commandments for a reason. We are to follow them.
lds9999 3 years ago

Not did he violate such commandments, but he nullified the grace of God by creating his own laws which state how one enters into eternal life with God.
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
Joseph Smith did not follow a god "molded by his own imagination." He saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in vision and was called as a prophet.
As a prophet, he taught the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

God bless!!
galatianstwo21 3 years ago

Mormonism teaches that justification with God is by the Grace of God after all the righteous deeds they can do, 2 Nephi 25:23 yet the prophet Isaiah stated in Isaiah 64:6 . . .all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags . . .
galatianstwo21 3 years ago
We don't teach works of the Law. We teach following the commandments of Christ Jesus.
Nephi, tho, was talking about the works of the Law and how they did them then because that was what God wanted THEN. And that God's grace was what was going to save them, not the works they did. Nephi knew that the Law was only to show them how impossible it was to save ourselves, it only showed us how only Christ could pay for our sins and save us.
