Mark Farner - great guitarist? Technically, no. Feeling? Timing? A little bit different? Yes. And that what counts - nobody else sounds like he does, or that band. I just loved their first two albums, a lot of the third. And then I said goodbye.
@lawvermont Mark Farner is one of the best rhythm guitar players there is,and being a good rhythm player is more important than shooting blind solos to excite the crowd...
@rocconrollo I'll buy that. But I even think some of his leads were pretty good. As we all know, a good blues guitar player who does it right and slow is 100% better than the super fast with no soul. I don't think Farner was phenomonal, but he played chords, and had timing, that was just different. TNUC - nothing else quite like that.
@lawvermont I totally agree on the nice and slow, I think that there isn't a word to descrive my hatred for the so called "Shredders",they totally killed the concept of Rn'R guitar playing
@dyhanendra- look closer-- montansrush54 was the one who refuted the statement! JohnGTR13 made the comment. Thats ok we all make mistakes. apology accepted. :) Have A Nice Day!!!
@montanarush54 tell that to Ringo, when he played his solo on The End on Abbey Road...or Alan White during the 4th movement of Tales from Topographic Oceans..
now, if you'd said that no rap "song" should last more than 5 seconds, you'd be right.
WOW I like old great things like this...there are a lotta warts in this song, but man so good. Mel misses some strings and so does Mark, but these were the days where energy trumped all. Excellent.
That would be Don Brewer or Mark Farner - just for the record and yes I agree that no one touched the first 30 seconds of this solo back in the 70's or now for that matter.
Hey Mark... long time fan from Honduras. Been following you since a kid. (1/2/63). My sisters turned me on to your records in 1972.... you are and continue to be the best man. TNUC live ... that kicked ass
footenote on Farners Lakota thing.......ya know Crazy Horse? he was Oglala. a tribe that is part of Lakota Confedracy. ...=Oglala, Minneconjou, Hunkpapa, Yanktonai, etc. Sitting Bull was Hunkpapa people. Farners lucky. he has blood that actually connects him to this land. maybe lots of us do, its a mystery!
Its the what the letters spell Backwards....
