  • I can spend hours listining to this and i do

  • gotta love that fretless bass

  • Does anyone else here get a "Days of Heaven" by Ennio Morricone vibe? The introduction measures, and especially the breakdown where it has the intro with what sounds like xylophones.

  • @PsychoBurgundy3 i think trance kuja battle theme sounds like this

  • I play air bass whenever I hear this song.

  • If Hell has a DJ, this is definitely on the playlist.....very sinister

  • It reminds me of Natural Killer Cyborg and Master Porky themes of Mother 3. (I know Mother 3 went way after CT, but I played Mother 3 prior to CT)

  • Honestly, this song does sound like FF around some parts, such as 1:14 but at some other parts, such as 0:48 it reminds me of another SNES game, Comix Zone I believe it's called.

Chrono Trigger music is... wonderful :D The songs are like stories about where they are being used, it's so perfect and fitting :D Makes me wanna start up ol' CT here, for a trip down memory lane :)

  • @TearGrande Comix Zone was on the Sega Genesis, but I definitely see the resemblance in the music. It was a pretty fun game, but I think I like Chrono Trigger a little more.

  • @tortuga388 Same here :) I was just mentioning that similarity.

  • I just noticed something about the cover used in this video. Marle's casting fire onto Crono's sword, when Marle can't use fire. She's the "ice mage" of the game.

  • @BBoy2020

Concept art. Obviously, a few details changed from the concept art to the final product lol.

  • Kinda reminds me of Trance Kuja's theme in FF9.

  • The intro to this song reminds me a lot of the intro to Ozzy's own Mr. Crowley. I approve!!

  • Also omg, the whole music change at 1:44 is just amazing.

  • Was just going through this place in 2300AD. I must say love the music.

  • "Unnatural Selection"

  • Guys, it's concept art. Expect it to misconstrue the gameplay.

  • the opening part of this song sounds like the beginning of an Ozzy song, lol.

  • @JNGonzalez09 Yeah, kinda sounds like the opening to Mr. Crowley :D

  • @HerrShaun Yeah that's the one! Lol.

  • Nobuo Uematsu composed this tune, not Yasunori Mitsuda. It's actually really easy to tell it's a Nobuo song--it has that certain style.

  • @WannaTradePants Uematsu + Toriyama = win

  • @Disembow1280 It's Yasunori Mitsuda

  • @SPGuyver In fact, Tyran castle theme was made by Nobuo. At some point Yasunori got sick.

How much Yasunori worked on it before or after his sickness, this I do not know XP. There's even a third composer in this game! Did only one track though ( boss battle 1 ), her name was Noriko I think.

  • @SmokingSpoon : If i were to give an estimate. Yasunori did like 3/4's of it before he got stomach ulcers. Nobou simply finished off what was left to do. In my opinion, both composers made this awesome game even more awesome (even better since it was Yasunori first time as lead composer)

  • @SPGuyver Oops. I had the Squaresoft/Final Fantasy stereotype in my head. Since the game was from Squaresoft, and it was a jRPG, and it was from the mid-90s, I assumed the music was by Uematsu. Simple mistake.

  • @Disembow1280 Actually this track was indeed composed by Uematsu. Apparently Mitsuda has Crohn's disease and he had a couple of relapses while he was working on this soundtrack, so fellow composers Uematsu and Matsueda helped him out while he recovered.

You can check all the songs' credits on wikipedia by looking up chrono trigger music

  • @Skylinskentor Oh, cool.

  • HARDCORE

  • Carnival of the Animals - The Aquarium. Listen to it, it has a lot of similarities to this piece.

  • perfect song when you have to go see your mother in law

  • @reinehcreinehc LOL !!!

  • Who else thinks this song would be awesome on rock band?

  • i always thought as a kid "why is this song not on doom?", its pretty ominous and awesome

  • @gatoman46 Yeah, if you have played Doom, it's very hard not to think it was inspired by it.

And Doom came out 1.5 years before CT (in fact, evn before FFVI).

  • 1:43 Epic part :D

  • Most badass song in CT

  • 16-BIT MOSH PIT!

  • I'm sorry Undersea Palace and Black Omen, but your BGMs can't compete with this. \m/

  • This one was actually produced by Uematsu, because Mitsuda had contracted ulcers and needed a break.

  • This song and Dark Messenger (FFIX) are thematically similar. but i bet that's been brought up like a million times by now.

  • @cynicsfaith Just noticed that while I was playing through Chrono Trigger. Some parts of this sound a lot like Kuja's theme

  • @saberofdark

Yap and the Pyramid/Desert Theme of Final Fantasy V sounds like Kuja's Theme as well. Especially "Kuja leaving Burmecia".

  • @cynicsfaith they both rock so why don't we leave it at that ?

  • *cue slow headbang* :D

  • @MegaKnuckles777 you called it right at :45 man.

  • Man, that breakdown starting at 1:43 is so badass.

  • Don't give those comments thumbs up...it's common knowledge that the cover is showing Crono, Marle, and Frog using "Arc Impulse" which is their triple tech.

  • Chrono Trigger came out in 1994, while FF9 came out in 2000

  • 3:07 - 3:32 reminds me of something i heard before... i just don't remember what...

  • This song would sound great with a couple electric guitars, a base and a set of drums. A modern day rendition perhaps. I never really appreciated this song when I was younger but it sounds amazing to me now.

  • I thought that the artwork was supposed to resembly the triple tech 'Frost Arc'. But it probably was just a development thing.

  • this is the most epic track in the game! Makes me want to play CT again!

  • This song makes me feel like a epic battle is going to happen and you are seriously mad and going to kick the shit out of enemies.

  • there are some notes of these song which reminds me of kuja's theme in ff9

  • @crokkettino you might mean that this song inspired the ff9 music.

This game was like 5 years or 6 before ff9 if you knew that,no offense but when you say things like that, you are making a fool of yourself.

  • @piromaniac9999 i didn't mean to say ff9 inspired this game lol cause i know this is older than ff9. just wanted to point out the similarities between the two themes.

  • @crokkettino At least you are not retarded like 99% of the ff7 fanboys who suck clouds dick and sephiroth and go on in their church to worship how ff7 is perfect.

I am so fucking tired of that fucking mediocre game getting credit it doesn't deserve.

  • @piromaniac9999 i have to say i don't like ff7 very much either, and i think it's been overestimated.

  • @piromaniac9999 He sai it reminds him of the song, not "Final Fantasy IX came before Chrono Trigger.

  • @OmnomTheDevourer erm i don't mean to be a smart ass or anything, but your writing is horrible.

    Is english your first language?

And chrono trigger came way before ff9,like 5 years before.

  • @piromaniac9999 I never said it came out first. Remind is different to saying "rip-off."

  • @OmnomTheDevourer alright i take what i said back.

But its mostly nobuo uematsu so its not a rip off.

Besides, its all owned by squeenix so even if its a remix of a game from before, its still theirs.

And nobuo uematsu is a genius.

I don't think that the new girl will be able to be on par with nobuo, she seems like some trash 2010 pop music.

Her music seems very pop ish,the kind that is mainstream amongst people who don't know good music.

  • @piromaniac9999 The new girl?

  • @OmnomTheDevourer Yeah, whats her name? the one who sings for FF13

  • Red star, FALL!!!

    Stain the Earth.... RED!!!

Though it may be our fate to perish, we will not simply hand this world over to you!

Mwa ha! With this Black Tyranno I can finally exterminate those filthy apes!!

  • This song is underated to the rest of the soundtrack

  • The part at 1:44 or so sounds a lot like one of the songs in FFIX, wonder if this was used as an influence to that.

  • Same composer did both songs so I'd say yeah, he probably dipped into one of his earlier works for some inspiration.

  • What song are you talking about?

  • Nobuo Uemastu wrote this song because Yasunori Mitsuda was hopitalized in development. Nobuo Uematsu also composed for the FF series which is why this song has a Final Fantasy-esque sound to it.

  • ok does anyone else think the green dinosaurs or nezbit dancing to this song.

  • As someone commented before, the beginning of the song has the same tones as the Golbez's theme from FF4... of course, different instrument...

  • An electric guitar cover of this one would be awesome, especially after 0:50 it really sounds like theres an el-guitar that kicks inn.

Come to think abut it, i compare this song to Ozzy Osbourne's song: Mr. Crowley due to the fact that it starts in a way that reminds me of an organ then the guitar riffs kicks inn.

  • Hate to burst your bubble there, but what you're hearing is the SNES's best attempt at blaring trumpets. I can't think of a part of the song where an actual guitar was used.

  • Yeah kinda hear it, but still think it would be sweet though :)

  • Some of it sounds a little like the legion of doom theme from the wwf lol

  • along with frog and magus theme this is one of my favorite tracks in the game

  • To be honest I didn't like this game too much. It was good but not like "ZOMG BEST PRG EVAR"

  • Well not "the best". Everyone has their favorites. But it was a fantastic game for sure. The time travel elements alone made this game epic.

However, my favorite rpg of all time is still Final Fantasy IV, hands down.

  • @Gazaru Agreed

  • This sound's exactly like 'Footsteps of Desire' from Final Fantasy 9.

  • you mean footsteps of desire sounds like this. CT came out first.

  • This song was actually composed by Nobuo

  • I didn't know that. I love this song. I wish I could download it somewhere.

  • This song was composed by nobuo. He did about 10 tracks in the game after Mitsuda-san got ill and couldn't finish

  • He didn't get sick, he had a mid-life crisis and said he was quitting music.

  • @popimpi SORRY, but no. Mitsuda Contracted Ulcers from working so hard on this game . He was sent to the hospital, and they brought Nobuo in to finish the rest of the tracks.

I bet you also didn't know Mitsuda had a HardDrive Failure during the development of the game and lots a large ammount of songs he already composed.

    Learn your facts

  • He may have gotten sick but I have two magazines from the year the game was released that state he quoted he had a mid-life crisis, that he was nearly at half his age and had not done much with his life and so was quitting music (Although that didn't hold true,) which was the direct reason. I mean you eventually would get better and come back to your profession but at that point he was having a MLC. No, I didn't know that, but I dont care lol, Don't need to be offended.

  • Okay let me just put it out there for everyone giving me thumbs down, anyone can go onto wikipedia and "learn the facts" there, but I was a kid waiting on hand and foot for this to come out, so much that I bought 2 magazines with previews for CT in them, and both said and I quote "...there is so much I haven't done with my life and I am quitting music." Sure he got over the ulcers and didn't quit music, but if you gotta down someone to feel better then I pity you.

  • I have heard beginning of song somewhere...not in game I mean. But some where...movie or commecrial. Show or other...

  • The begginning sounds just like Kuja's Theme from Final Fantasy IX. It's the same composer though so I guess you cant fault him for plagiarism lol

  • It also sounds kind of like Golbez's Theme from FFIV, but I think that was also from the same guy...

  • Comment removed

  • I'm thinking of using this music in one of my Doom 2 levels. It's really great!

  • By far one of my favourite tracks in Chrono Trigger... Nobou Uematsu composed this masterpiece. It sounds somewhat like the music in an underrated game called "Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I wish it weren't interrupted by the battle music.

  • in one level i dont think the battle music affects this music

  • Yeah, that one part at 1:53. You know what I'm talking about. It makes the whole track worthwhile.

  • ...this is really similar to kuja's theme in final fantasy ix

  • ...wow. Yeah, it is!

  • That intro STILL sends shivers up my spine...

  • Why is marle using fire?

  • that always confused me too, even to this day when I look at that picture O.o

  • Before the game was completed, they were gonna give Marle the ability to use fire (I think due to having a spunky firey personality, while Lucca was more cool and collected, so she'd get ice.) That was when the picture was made.

Somewhere down the line, they decided to reverse Lucca and Marle's magics, but didn't decide to change the artwork.

There are other mistakes too. That monster's heckran, but you're supposed to fight him in a cave, not out in a snowy place. And you didn't have Frog.

  • Ah, arigatou! That clears things up for me. And I'm glad they never changed the artwork. They brought it back for the DS cover and I'm glad :D

  • lol, you missed one more mistake too. When first coming to the "snowy place" which is, I believe, like Aerie or Death peak (haven't played it in like 14 years), Chrono is DEAD, you return later with the doll and resurrect chrono there, so the artwork is half true.

  • Nice spoiling there, son.

  • @pendejochy You're completely wrong.

Marle isn't using fire in the artwork. What she's shooting is part of a Triple Tech in which she does do that. Besides, the people making box artwork likely were only told "Draw Crono, Frog, and Marle fighting a demon on a snowy mountain" in some context.

People who draw box artwork are told what to draw, they know nothing about the game.

  • @CCrockyourass Very nice observation...and besides Marle's personality better suits fire anyway...

  • @antmsuperfan Well the other reason why it's wrong was that CT was released in Japan first, and the Japan boxart didn't look like that, so having the american boxart made before the game was even finished would be ludicrous.

It just pisses me off that he got so many thumbs up as people think he knows what he's talking about.

A theory I have about why Marle's element is Ice, is because of the praise "Ice Queen" even though that name doesn't suit her. Lucca's sorta like a pyro anyway.

  • @CCrockyourass Ah I see thnx 4 clearing that up

  • @pendejochy It's not really "mistakes." This came first, it's concept art. You don't update concept art as the game goes along.

  • @pendejochy I understand what you mean but, maybe they did that too show the characters you get, some powers even from opposite characters, but in the snow?I agree thats weird...

  • @pendejochy

I know you'll likely never see this, but the attack is right. They're using the Triple Tech "Arc Impulse." Frog is kneeling because Chrono jumped off of him and the 'fire' is actually the spell she shoots at Chrono's sword, which shifts between blue and orange.

Heckran in what appears to be Death Peak still confuses me.

  • @PikminBak

It can't be Death Peak, since Chrono was gone from the party at that time. I think it's the chained island before the fall of the floating continent.

  • @Chamillionare64

That'd make sense. Isn't there a time when you ascend Death Peak with Chrono in the group or am I just thinking of the doll you grab beforehand?

  • @PikminBak

Not sure about the doll, but after bringing back Chrono I think the party is teleported to The End of Time if I remember correctly.

  • @pendejochy I was never a big fan of this artwork it's still good but I don't know if really portrays the game well.

  • @pendejochy you life is Chrono Trigger ?

  • @Valientlink They're actually using a triple tech where Marle's ice happens to somewhat resemble fire. I admit, the rest of the scene is wrong... or it was, until Chrono Trigger DS, where a Heckran clone appeared in a snowy area. Using that triple tech on him deals a whopping 1 damage.

  • This song is full of good parts!

Its awesome from 0:43 to the very end.

  • its awesome frm the start till the end

  • A perfect tune. Perhistorical... but not too much. You still get the feeling of being in a castle and like humanity is on the line. Even a sort of final conflict type thing is going on in there (in respect to ayla).

  • This brings back some goood Chrono Trigger memories! Come out on the DS faster. Gogogo!

  • This theme is among my Top Ten for this game. thanks for uploading, pal :3
