This songs makes me remember Spring of 2002 when i split witha girl called Anna and, after some days only, i fell in love with a Greek girl called Maria, who vanished without a reason...an intense but sad period...the perfect sog for brokenhearted
I always remember the first time I heard this song. I had split with my husband suddenly and he collected his stuff from the house while I went out and drove around while he did it.
And this was playing and I don't know why but this song made me feel that everything would be fine. And it was
@AmyLillies I do hope the pain has now subsided, i can also relate to the sadness of an impossible love and hope that one day my hurt will ease too...
@AlexMcginty356 do you listen to the flaming lips? he used to be their guitar player in the early 90's and he totally ripped off wayne coyne's vocal style. not that i'm knocking on him, i love mercury rev too, just saying his vocal style was "borrowed" from the flaming lips. check them out if you're not familiar, another amazing band.
If you're open minded (ie; if you're an adult) and you get the lyrics, this song will make you very emotional. If it doesn't, you're emotionally retarded and I fell sorry for you.
A very underrated and in some cases, missunderstood band..beautiful piece of music, obviously inspired Coldplay-the piano in The Scientist is exactly the same as in this record.
Grandiose string intro's like the start of Ash's There's A Star. No other similarities apart prps from astral themes. Thought I'd check this out, out of deference to Prof Colin Pillinger (driving force behind Britain's ill-fated Beagle 2 Mars mission), who chose this as one of his Desert Island Discs last week. I like the lyrics and arrangement including the Coldplay-esque piano, though not so keen on the (more wimp-rock than Coldplay) singer's voice.
First: sorry for 'wimp rock' label: lazy tag I once read applied by some music critic to Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol & Travis, all of whose work I actually like. Secondly: Mercury Rev toured as support act to Coldplay this year, and their frontman Jonathan Donohue says there's '...a musical bond in terms of the inspiration we've in some ways imparted to Coldplay...it's a weird feedback loop because they certainly inspire us these days with their music'. Cf this track to 'The Scientist''s piano

Thanks for the bad news, now that I know that Mercury Rev sounded this boring BEFORE Coldplay I like them even worse. In fact they could even be held responsible (together with Radiohead) for the abomination that is this kind of sound. Your post was very illuminating. Thanks again.

OK I've listened to their songs about 5 times each now and I really like it. This Coldplay support tour is gonna boost their album sales as some Coldplay fans like more complex music. It's only NME-reading tossers who hate Coldplay just cos they are popular! I think Butterfly's wings is my favorite so far.
Hey man, i was there at the coldplay concert too and Mercury Rev was great as an opening act! I gotta ask, have you ever heard of Mercury Rev or listened to any of their songs before?
Haha, really? I know Coldplay's performing in Hong Kong now, I was at their Singapore concert and it was a blast :-D you have fun at the concert tonight ok man?
You are so kind, Gus. Thank you. I love this song. It sounds like it should be on a movie soundtrack or something. We like the same music always! XOXOXO For You.....

I know how you feel :) but why is everything so bad for you in september?
ArtsLover12 2 years ago
September is always difficult, because of many deaths in the family has happened in that particular month.
I had family members and friends of the family on a ship called the MV Estonia, which went under on September 28th, back in 1994.
September is a living hell every year after that.
