  • thanks for this i just got my self a home espresso machine and this as improved my foam 100% i was wondering about the age of the milk if it makes a difference as i had 2 bottles of the same brand milk yet the 1st had better results than the 2nd im assuming fresh milk is better, thanks again.

  • I just searched through so many Milk Foaming videos trying to find a decent one and this is the best. Any wannabe Baristas out there should pay attention to this!

    Awesome job!

  • A new barista, and I get inconsistent advice from all my senior baristas. This definitely helps, and I'll be trying it when I get back to work! ^^

  • i consider myself to be a decent barista and stumbled on your video out of curiosity. i have to say that for anyone watching this video, you provide them with very sound advice. hats off to you. a good milk steaming tutorial at last

  • Thanks for this video, iv just got my first coffee machine and have been trying to get the milk right, ill go give this a try

  • This is the best video describing the different steps of steaming. I'm so happy I found this. The other videos didn't describe as much as this one did. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a coffee shop and people just let my milk sit there with the steam wand stuck in it. I was never the main barista at the coffee shop I used to work at but at least we were instructed on how to steam milk properly. This video was really nice to brush up on things. I'm looking to become a barista soon :)

  • Did anyone else have a fight club moment watching this video?

  • about how many ounces of milk do u use. i have a 20 oz. pitcher filled to brim but i use 8 oz. and cna't get the mik to texturize. i get a lot of milk under tje foam. my milk is 12C. any tips?

  • @tinbiscuite It varies with the jug, simply use about 1/3 to 1/2 of the jug's size. Don't use more than a half, as the milk should double in volume with the foam (for cappuccinos). If you are getting too much foam with large bubbles, lower the steam wand slightly as this will reduce the amount of air being introduced and produce small bubble, ie microfoam.

  • @CaffeSociety i do get what you said and i thank you. my problem is with the texturizing. i get mostly liquid milk under the foam and not a silky creamy milk. i have lowered the wand to about an inch under the surface and angeled the pitcher to help get the milk to swirl. so, what am i doing incorrectly?

  • @tinbiscuite The milk under the foam is just that, milk. To give a creamy texture you need to mix the milk and foam together before pouring. Simply swirl the jug until the milk and foam blend together. If the frothed milk is sat while you make the espresso, the blending can take up to a couple of minutes to be properly done. Keep the milk moving all the time including when you pour and it will give that smooth texture.

  • @tinbiscuite Hope that helps

  • @tinbiscuite now i make the foam last and the espresso 1st.. i'm concentrating on the amount of milk i add to a cold (freezer kept) jug and i'm doing much better with the foam. now i have to concentrate on pouring the foam to get something other than abstract art. thanks for your demo and advice.

  • easily the most helpful video i've encountered so far. full explanations of the procedures AND you show how to do it properly. Thank you

  • All about the tight foam...

  • Thanks...after much searching and experimenting, at last a clear video that not only explains how, but why. Understanding why a thing works a certain way makes it much easier to achieve.

  • Probably the best instructions I've found on the internet. When I first started as a barista, I had to figure out myself how to froth the milk - lots of waisted milk, badly made coffees - but I did it somehow. But your video just puts everything together - it makes sense now :D Thanks!

  • Nicely done!

  • Thanks :) The only explanation i got from my boss was "...and then froth the milk.."

  • This is the best explanation of how to get proper foam - excellent! Would have been nice to see you pour that milk making latte art...

  • this is very helpful :O

  • Thanks for the instructions!

  • Hai Nice video yar......

I will be needing ur help on how to dash out perfect foam from the milk pitcher as I am weak in dat part and I am scared I might been scolded by my manager

  • Great video - better instructions than I got in my own training. Do you ever just get good milk that behaves exactly like you show and then you open the next carton/bottle and its same date, same batch but no matter what, it just won't do what its supposed to do, just stays like milk only hot but no micro bubbles, no looking like emulsion??!!!

  • @sukiedamson To be honest, no. You can definitely get bad batches of milk and of course the older it gets the worse the frothing, but when bought together and used in a reasonable time we don't get any problems. Assuming your using a commercial machine, I would suggest checking for blockages with the steam wand as this can lead to inconsistent results.

  • Great Video!!

  • subscribed! thanks a lot! =)

  • Wow you are good .. wish i would of got trained by some one like you :( still im glad i found your video .. that was great foam great advice and great video look forward to seeing more !! :)

  • Best video of the dozens I've looked at while trying to properly foam milk. Thanks for posting. Love your espresso machine -- I'd love to have steam levers instead of knobs.

  • The best description of how to steam milk i found so far. thanks!

  • Hope this works for me!!

  • Nice one. Cheers.

  • nice demonstration, thanks. I'm off to try it right now!

  • Great video. Clear, concise & practical.

  • Exelente video. Cheers! Es el mas instrutivo y el mas simple.

  • This is simplest & best tip on frothing milk I ever seen !

    Thank you so much ,

  • Amen :)

  • Really helpful

  • Great how to video--clear instructions and demonstration.

    Thanks

  • Nice video, but i have one question:

You use full power? Whenever I steam milk on a pro espresso machine it will get to about 60 degrees from frdige cold in about 5-10 seconds!

Don't you find that opening the steam valve about halfway will give better resaults and make it easier to learn? (Process is longer so you have a tad more time to find the whirling spot)

    Cheers!

  • Thanks bendoc91.

You should definitely open the steam wand the full amount, as this will produce enough pressure to whirlpool the milk and give smooth micro foam.

As with most things it simply gets easier with practice.

  • Great video. I'm going to try it tonight!
