Tito was one of the most hard working, solidly technical wrestlers to ever grace the WWE. Many look at the fact that despite being in the WWE for a long time he was never the top guy. His place in the company was still crucial, Shawn, Perfect, the Million Dollar Man all had feuds against Tito to put them on an even higher level. Tito's own rivalry with The Hammer resulted in an excellent cage match that still ranks high today
Yes he was the one that ended the Undertaker strike in the Taker´'s begging in WWF. He ended is carrer and now he's a school teacher of spanish! He also held a record as the wrestler participanting in most wrestlemanias, I don't know if it' is still he's record! OLE TITO!!!
OLE!!! Tito Santana!!! He was no jobber when he entered the ring the crowd always gave a great reaction! he was a good wrestler with technic! he is a all of famer!
Tito Santana is a jobber who has pinfall victories over Randy "Macho Man" Savage and The Undertaker; Tito Santana is also a jobber who has held the Tag Team Titles twice (including beating the Hart Foundation) and held the Intercontinental Title twice.
How I wish Tito was WWF Champion. During the Hogan era of the 80's, there were alot of guys who should've been champ who was at the top of their game such as DiBiase,Perfect,Martel, Jake, and Tito Santana. Hogan was Vince's #1 Guy who drew all the big money! But give someone else a chance!!
Hogan's ego was and still is too big. He is famous for not wanting to put others over!! I hold Hogan responsible for many great talent that were better than him in the 80's who should've been WWF Champion
Agreed. All the guys mentioned should have had a run as champ. Vince was high in charismatic big guys who had some talent like Hogan. If the fans had a connection with the audience then he ran with the popularity.
Luger fucked up WWE by being the "All AMerican" guy and the glory was all on him. I give Luger props for him being the US Champ for 2 years thought. That is no easy task.
Tito Santana was always a fan favorite and he is a friendly guy, no question. Damn this guy wrestled and put on a great show for the fans for all the right reasons!!!
He was a face for this gimmick. Come to think of it, was Tito EVER really a heel? I do miss these kinds of gimmicks though, Tito was an awesome wrestler to watch though.
I hate when he became el matador they kind of made him a glorified jobber. Tito was an awesome wrestler and the El Matador character was cool I wish they made him IC champ as El matador and maybe a title shot
That, my friend, is the very same opinion I have :)
I was down with "El Matador" but disliked the way he was utilised by WWF at that time.
Like I said before, Tito as El Matador vs Rick Martel as The Model would have been one hell of a feud and it could have been for the IC title at very least. I wish I was a writer for WWF in that era. (If I was El Matador vs The Model would definitely have happened and it would have been for IC gold) ;)
Yeah him and Martel could of gone back and forth with the title. They both were great wrestlers. Its funny when I think heavyweight champ I think power and spectaclte but when I think IC champ I think great technicians. He could of had great fueds and defenses with Martel,Rougeau,Perfect and eventually put Michaels over as a good singles competitor
Well said my friend and I definitely agree with everything you have said. Martel, Rougeau, Perfect, Michaels for the heels and even the likes of Virgil who could have gone on to more with a better push. I believe at this time was when Bret hart was also in the fray for IC gold. Owen Hart could have been in the mix too ;)
Your right the Harts were in contention but I purposefully left them, Piper,Virgil, Tornado and Bulldog off the list because in those days there was great script writing. Its hard to imagine how the script would of unfolded for Tito to fight another babyface, I mean he was the perfect face.
Very very true again, but what I meant was the workers of an intense rivalry need a brief rest period to regain their strength from time to time to get better matches from them. In this period the title could have gone to Perfect (for example) who starts a rivalry with Owen <- that would have been a great match in the day :D
It could also lead to tag team style matches that would have been great (Eg:- Martel and Rougeau vs Tito and Virgil in the mean time)
I agree, Rick Martel vs HBK was a great match at SummerSlam 92, especially considering it was very rare to see a match between two pompous, brash heels back then but maybe they should have put Santana vs Martel have a match against each other in their new gimmicks, they booked a match between Demolition: Crush vs Smash (Repo Man) so why don't a match between Strike Force?
I always wanted to see a tag team match with The Model and HBK vs El Matador and Jannetty
I do remember seeing el matador vs the model match on prime time, but i only remember glimpses,i was so young,i remember the model getting disqualifed,i think.
He was a great perfomrer, he belongs on the side with Rick Martel and Mr.Perfect...great worker...by the way it must be great feeling to entrance in the wembley stadium back then...what a huge crowd...I think some wrestlers must ahve been bit proud to wrestle in front of so many people!
I remember when Monsoon said that, at WrestleMania VIII and then Heenan said something like "I bet you like heartburn too!" Santana was an awesome wrestler.
The man was a multiple time Tag Team Champion (with HOFer Ivan Putski & HOF hopeful Rick Martel) and I think he also was IC Champ. And he's also in the Hall of Fame. The El Matador gimmick just happened to be at the end of his career. He was still a steady midcarder then, and was never a "jobber" like the Brooklyn Brawler or Barry Horowitz.
Just another reason why he's in the HOF. I hope Rick Martel joins him eventually as well as the Rougeau Brothers(at least Jacques, but if Gerald Brisco's in, Ray should go in too) and Brian Adams.
I'm not diminishing the Briscos, just Gerry the kiss-ass. Jack deserves to be in because he's one of the most overlooked NWA World Champs of all time. I'm not saying Gerry was a bad wrestler because he was good. But there's better guys that aren't in that should be.

Are you serious? Tito has been a jobber ever since the late 80s, putting damn near EVERYBODY over. The idiots who gave you those 20 thumbs-up are STUPID since they obviously never watched ALL of WWF circa 1988-1993, just like you are. Santana was amazing, but was one of the BIGGEST JOBBERS IN THE COMPANY'S HISTORY idiot!
youre right, he was a jobber in the wwf since the end of the 80´s and the beginning of the 90´s, cause the wwf hasnt pushed him and he was a "midcarder" at this time, thats bad, he was such a sportsman and now he is a legend...

Personally, I really liked the El Matador direction, it's such a shame it only lasted a short time.
My Opinion: The Model vs Tito as El Matador could have been an intense feud for many years more than it was given.
Also a shame that he wasn't pushed a great deal after the big splitting of Strike Force <- Awesome Team.
