This is the difference between Superman and Luthor. Superman, for all his power, just wants to do the right thing. Luthor doesn't care about doing the right thing, nor does he care about anyone beside himself. In some ways, this difference makes Superman more human than Luthor. If Superman actually killed Luthor, like he does in the Justice Lords alternate universe, he would cease to be Superman.
PLEASE type in GREEN LANTERN THE ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY it is the true story of how GEORGE LUCAS sent off duty CIA agents to threaten my Mother with guns Please check it out thanks
wouldnt it been possible for superman to just aim for luthors hand with his heat vision that wouldnt be lethal force sure luthor loses a hand but at least he wouldnt be able to push the button and he wouldnt have the chance to use his other one because by then superman should be able to subdue him b4 that happened
@MegaRockMan1 Dont fall in the cliche that Superman is strong but dumb. He's smarter than most Earthlings including Batman and Lex Luther. And I think that thought did cross BOTH their minds (Lex and Supes). It was the worst thing Luther thought he'd get, but I think Superman got pushed so far over the edge he willfully denied to think of any other possibility than to kill. It's Batman's reaction thats puzzling.
The thing is, is it ever ethical to kill a helpless enemy even if they are evil? Is it ethical to kill someone or to decide through society and the court to kill someone. If you are more powerful than the state, does that mean you can act as the state?
True, killing Lex by itself doesn't mean JUSTICE LORDS. But it does when combined with the death of the Flash, having to coup the White House, and feeling that there was no justice in mankind.
I don't think Batman would just go along with this shit like that, but then again, neither would Superman kill a human. Makes an interesting what-if episode though!
How does killing Luthor make Superman evil? I don't see how killing one of the worst criminals in the universe, not killing anyone else, can turn Superman a Super Hitler. When theres a big nasty cockroach in your house, you don't let it live and allow it to multiply to hundreds of smaller cockroaches. You kill it and be done with it.
@DrNotEmpathetic It doesn't make it evil, but Superman is suppose to represent the very best of us. The most noble of noble, someone above killing humans, with a higher moral for everyone to look up to. If even Superman has to resort to straight up murdering people to solve his problems, that's incredibly disappointing. It's like finding out your perfect role model actually gets drunk and beats up chicks at bars.
@jeremycarrier You consider Lex Luthor human? See, most of the time I like that no killing part about Superman's character, but there's just some times where the only true option is killing the opponent. I'm not saying for Superman to kill everyone of his enemies. He's a good guy and probably the thought of killing anyone hurts for him. But come on, Lex? That's one villain who should be put to the ground. Lol. What's funny is that Lex is one of my favorite villains.
Angels kill demons and angels are suppose to be the most pure beings in all existence right?
You are not suppose to consider yourself the high standard for everyone/model to follow even if you are a Superhero.
The real reason why writers keep Superman from killing Lex a long time ago was because he was a major villain and killing him woud have a lot of effect on the DC continuity.
Okay, that villain guy was so dumb! I mean, if he hadn't taunted Superman and told him of his sub-consious actions, he wouldn't have been killed.....he did die, didnt he? XD
Okay, that villain guy was so dumb! I mean, if he hadn't taunted Superman and told him of his sub-consious actions, he wouldn't have been killed.....he did die, didnt he? XD
preparing the minds of the children for a future generation of defenceless people and easy to kill and control. The future generations must be cattles. All cartoons of superheros are created by the satanic system to wash the brain of the people.
I think the reason Batman didnt care about Luthors death and Superman loving what he did was the fact that it was LEX LUTHOR. The most evil psychopath on the earth. So he is now dead that a major weight lifted off of them. and if anyone disagrees Kill them too.
@audioholicsDOTcom Well, it's actually NOT a fake Superman, either of the two Supermen in this episode are the real thing. Because they come from different universes doesn't make either one fake.

It's interesting that the moment Batman see's what Superman has done, he instantly gives up on his own code of conduct. Batman was looking up to Superman like everyone else.
@227060 Superheroes SHOULD kill it would keep the world in line. Imagine A Superman with no weaknesses and total control of the world. Peace would reign.
@neoarchangemon yeah, thats right, peace its not like there are countless stories (including THIS one) where exaclty that happens and there is absolute peace under a friggin TYRANNY, where ppl are denied thier freedoms. No, peace at the cost of freedom is unacceptable. if Superheroes start to kill, then where do they draw the line, how are they any better than the villains they face. think of the mental trauma it could cause. u don't want traumatised super beings preped 2 kill.
@RatedMforManly the point was not whether he should have killed lex, i think the point of this scene was, superman didn't turn evil when he decided to fry Lex, since it was actually the logical thing and even the right thing to do, however, the decision to fry lex, unfortunately, drove him insane...

I can see a superhero getting fed up and eventually ending things if it seems like they are not working out within the law. But I severely doubt that any hero of superman's like would say "I'm great" after such kill. That line alone killed it.
@Illuser Yeah. It was almost as if the writers were saying that if you enforce justice--the way it should be--you'll become a murder-loving psychopath. o.O
Even the Bible agrees with capital punishment--and for good reason.
@Illuser mabe but when remember that ep when superman let darkside rly have it. before he did it, he talked on how he had to constantly maintain control of himself. Perhaps when this version finally snapped. He was done holdin back all his emotions even some of his darker ones.
@Illuser Not true. This Superman from alternative reality wasnt supposed to be good guy. He was main antagonist of that story, he wasnt hero, he was just a monster, just like Luthor.
@Illuser This ISN'T normal Superman, remember. This is Justice Lord Superman, before the whole Justice Lord thing. AKA, the DCAU's rendition of Ultraman.
The fact remains it's not really up to us to decide who lives and who dies even if you got the cape and bots. Superheroes are supposed to be examples of the very best of us.
Bottomline is killing is wrong. Being a hero means when you are capable to make the right choice no matter hard it is or the consequences ahead. If you willing to take the easy way out by killing the villain, you are just as evil as they are. Your so far gone you can't tell the difference between right and wrong. Thats why every superhero like Batman and superman do not cross the line and kill.
@TheZeroAgent15 Actually, I don't really agree with that. Killing isn't wrong when you are dealing with a monster that you know will keep on doing horrible thing until he is put down. It's a hard thing to do, but it's not wrong IF you have no other solution to stop him. If you do, of course, then that's mean that you're just taking the easy way out. And that horrible. ^^
This storyline about Superman losing want he stands for was in my opinion the best thing about Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. Showing us the Justice Lords wasn't about showing "evil" counterparts. It was showing more controlling and forceful versions of the League feeling they were doing "the right thing." What made it great is that even the Justice Lord Batman felt it was wrong what they were doing. Such brilliant writing! The writers took this show and the characters seriously!
I honestly think that Superman could have stopped him from pressing the button without killing him. But hey, Justice Lord Supes is just a son of a bitch.
You're absolutely right. There is a way that Superman could stopped Lex from pushing the button without killing him. All he would have had to do is destroy the control panel with his heat vision. Then he could have simply captured Lex as usual. Come to think of it, that's probably what the normal Superman (as opposed to the Justice Lord Superman) would have done.
i used to like batman in this series especially, but in the movie dark knight i hated him, he couldn't even kill the joker when he had few chances, That Movie sucked because it was all about that stupid joker and nothing about bats.
@0086crickrazy The Joker in the movie said it himself: That Batman chooses not to kill the Joker out of some misguided sense of Justice. That's a factor that makes Batman so respectable (and feared in some cases) by many people.
I understand not killing every single villian there are those who can be redeemed however such as said in Marvel's Civil War event how many times will Spiderman lock up Osbourn just so that Osbourn can turn around escape and kill hundreds more. How many times til those deaths become spidermans fault for not doing something about it...
See, as much as I loved this series they slanted it. They made out that IF Superman were to ever break his own code in ONE instance, he would automatically turn into something 100% evil. This is far from how reality works. If I were to catch a rapist in the act and kill him to stop him, doesnt mean that any time after that I would kill someone for running a red light!
I just do not see not killing anyone as the right thing to do. Many people are better off dead to the rest of society. We see examples of it every day!
Lex was right, Superman needs him. Like Lex said, Supes wouldn't be much of a hero without him and he LOVES being a hero. Reminds me of when Tony Montana said " You need people like me. So you can point your finger and say that's the bad guy. " Even though this is an alternate reality you can't tell me that the real Superman doesn't think about doing that to his enemies from time to time. Everybody gets tired of being the good guy all the time.....EVERYBODY.
Enjoyable, but they drew the characters too huge. Superman is enormous. He could never disguise himself as Clark Kent with those 24 inch arms and 60 inch chest.
The "S" shield at 0:05 looks completely fucked up

@Illuser This ISN'T normal Superman, remember. This is Justice Lord Superman, before the whole Justice Lord thing. AKA, the DCAU's rendition of Ultraman.

@Illuser It is better to quit when you are ahead, rather than becoming the very enemy you fought.

2:17 Kal-el's charging his laser.

TheZeroAgent15 1 year ago

At least the Power Rangers never had to think much about killing vs not killing.

I honestly think that Superman could have stopped him from pressing the button without killing him. But hey, Justice Lord Supes is just a son of a bitch.
apvideogame 1 year ago
@apvideogame

This is the Superman I like. Just think of the lives he has now saved (finally) with this act of killing Luthor.

i used to like batman in this series especially, but in the movie dark knight i hated him, he couldn't even kill the joker when he had few chances, That Movie sucked because it was all about that stupid joker and nothing about bats.
0086crickrazy 1 year ago
@0086crickrazy The Joker in the movie said it himself: That Batman chooses not to kill the Joker out of some misguided sense of Justice. That's a factor that makes Batman so respectable (and feared in some cases) by many people.

I understand not killing every single villian there are those who can be redeemed however such as said in Marvel's Civil War event how many times will Spiderman lock up Osbourn just so that Osbourn can turn around escape and kill hundreds more. How many times til those deaths become spidermans fault for not doing something about it...
mysterchr 1 year ago
See, as much as I loved this series they slanted it. They made out that IF Superman were to ever break his own code in ONE instance, he would automatically turn into something 100% evil. This is far from how reality works. If I were to catch a rapist in the act and kill him to stop him, doesnt mean that any time after that I would kill someone for running a red light!
jasong19711 1 year ago
