@BrokenAeroVT But he has his powers at night with the whole planet blocking the sun's rays. Surely a lead suit wouldn't render him powerless. If it did he'd be too easy to trap.
When kryptonite was introduced to Superman by Lex Luthor in the first Christopher Reeve movie, he fell to his knees. George Reeves is warned about it, says he doesn't care, fails to knock down a steel door and then says to Jimmy: "Did you say Kryptonite?" Go figure.
For a guy with superhearing, he does not hear so well.
I have to say, I always thought George Reeves played Superman as not quite a pure hero and Clark Kent as a wiseass; I much prefer Christopher Reeves version. Guess I'm an 80's kind of guy.
In this episode, Superman, at first, was close enough to the Kryptonite that it took away his powers;it was when Jimmy brought the Kryptonite closer to Superman that it was close enough to kill him.
I love it when Jimmy Olsen tells Superman about the mysterious metal that the villians have called Kryptonite. Superman says to Jimmy, "I don't care what they call it!";when his punch has no effect on the door, Superman says to Jimmy, "Did you say 'Kryptonite'?
Another thing is that kryptonite is supposed to make Superman weak, and if exposed long enough, kill him. The only problem George Reeves has is that he can't punch open the door? I wonder if any of the script writers for this episode read any of the Superman comics.
George Reeves's Superman was so hot... I have always loved the sweat stains under George's armpits. It was such a hard work to be Superman at that time... He was the one and only Superman, and a great man, too.
Correct. It startled the 3 villains so badly in its soaring overflight that they drove off the road and over a cliff. One is rumored to have been Phil Mickelson's great grandfather.
Superman: Oooooooh.....THAT Kryptonite?
Jimmy: Yeah Superman....what Kryptonite were you thinking of?
Superman: I was thinking of that element...or like that place downtown where women....uh....NEVERMIND THAT NOW JIMMY! EVIL IS AFOOT!

Luckily for "Superman".."Lois & Jimmy"stuffed that deadly glowing,green rock
into a lead pipe and stomped it shut with their feet. Our recovereded "Superhero"tosed the pipe into the sea.And at the same time,he killed off
the villians.

guess you didn't see the rest of the scene. He falls down and was dying until they can put the kryptonite in a lead pipe

Actually, it was Jimmy who put the Kryptonite in a lead pipe;Lois was too busy crying to be much help.

Jackson Gillis wrote this episode, working closely with the comic book editors. It tallies with the comic book Superman of the day.

This from 1953 ' The Defeat of superman'. To me, it's almost as good as Superman In Exile or Panic In the Sky George Reeves rules STILL !!!

Yeah, completely agree; George Reeves was the iconic Superman (sort of like Guy Williams was the iconic Zorro).
