@Stldetrl They can be very deceptive and misleading. As far as overheating goes, you might try some thermal compound and if you can get a hold of it skip the grease and go for thermal tape, clean all the other stuff off first and make sure its properly seated. Also check your fan, is it working, is anything dusty, etc? A bios update could fix this too, but you could try something simpler like resetting the bios to the default settings, first. Just open up the bios setup page and try.

How did you get around the 1 gig requirement for Windows 7? My presario is only supposed to take 512m (256 soldered in + 256 added) but I was able to add a 512mb chip to give it a total of 768 mb. I don't thing there are 1 gb sodimm modules.

I would test that, but now I have a new problem.. the laptop with 768 megs keeps powering down after about 1 minute even when plugged in. I opened it up, and the AMD cpu seemed to be extremely hot - which would cause that problem. But I have no idea why the cpu is getting so hot all of a sudden. Thanks for the info about the 512mb!

I just want to point out to the asshole who was trashing linux that you can easily download the codecs that play MP3s and such, but that they don't come standard is because of legal issues in some countries. Plus, most linux distros are a lot easier on the hardware because they don't have as much shit running in the background. The P4 HT machine I'm using boots in about a minute, while a modern windoze install would take at least five minutes.

i used linux for 4 years retard. configuring linux on my system is a piece of cake and only required when u do a fresh install (reformat). it takes me an hour to install linux and configure it. while it takes you at least 6 hours on windoze. uninstalling the junk that it comes with and reinstalling ur software. think of something better to say. Actually linux terminal command line isnt bad at all if you learn it. if u dont want to u can use point and click on it.

nope its not limited in anyway i do all my work on linux including editing videos on kdenlive :) which is just like sony vegas pro. and linux is not command line. it HAS a GUI, gnome and kse and xfce are amazing. its just faster and easier to use command line. and its for power users. I install software with 1 line of code you go out there downloading software and clicking endlessly to install anything. besides there is a package manager for linux that makes installing things with 1 click

My mistake on the description I posted 256 meg ram instead of 496. So only way to run it is if you install another set of ram to make it 512. Or you have to look for some sort of patch to get it to install on 128 like what Vista had.

Microsoft is not pulling the plug on Vista anytime soon. They are still releasing service pack 2, which is going to be a great addition to Vista. I still have my main desktop dual booted to Vista x64. But if you ever tried windows 7 you would know why people like it. There is nothing wrong with Vista it's just consumers thought Vista would work on their XP machines, and it was due to the poor support from companies that made people hate vista. Happened with XP too.. it's human nature.
