This may have already been mentioned, but "almost anything goes" is a terribly inaccurate description of the sport and art of muay Thai. (and headbutts are definitely NO LEGAL, in competitions)
The name "art of the eight limbs" doesn't mean much until you see it in person. Knees and elbows and fists and feet and speed and quickness. It almost looks "Matrix Style" at high speed.
@slatanicslaughter the word muay boran isnt a style. its a staple word that just means ancient boxing. other forms of muay thai are muay ayuthaya, muay kochasarn, etc.

@linkinfan12 if you push the bag and punch it when it comes back.. it strengthens your hand and makes you go for a stronger punch.. i train mixed martial arts and i love muay thai.. when you train.. you will know the difference between a moving heavy bag.. and the not moving one

@NairaUzumaki I'm glad I'm a guy. I'm even more glad that I respect girls. Unlike every other man in the world.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna be dominated by a girl, or anyone for that matter. And I will hit a girl if she attacks me (serious attack). But I treat women with the highest respect because they are the most beautiful creature created.

My ideal fight tournament circus event would be one not controlled by cunning merchants and dictated by betting lines. Organized carnival sporting events have always and will always be an event that caters to the more vulger side of the masses, rather than uplifting the human spirit.
Real martial artists and gentlemen don't whore themselves for the poon and money and false fleeting glory.
And if you think the UFC is wonderful then you're already a proven idiot and I have nothing to say to you
I wouldnt say Rich uses good footwork. I'd say he fought an exhausted Silva who had to drop 12 lbs the day before the fight, that the UFC has limitations and they treat their fighters as expendible, marketing up hype, a guy wins a single fight and they talk about "pound for pound best ever" and loses a single fight and they talk about how he's "all washed up'.
Silva fought at 205 lb for years and never complained. Rich is in shape, certainly, but a fighter? He lacks the killer instinct.
Just see how the legend that is Wanderlei Silva has to lick ass and beg Dana for work, cutting weight that weakens his body to the point that some clown who does not deserve to stand in the same arena as him and who runs like a girl when even the weakened Wanderlei finally launches his assault, then is compelled to make excuses for losing a decision to a man whose face he just busted up.
bhibatsu, you're ridiculing the ufc because silva has a boss, decided to cut weight to a class that fits his frame better anyway, and because Rich Franklin uses footwork effectively? Would the ideal fight for you be two hyper aggresive, untrained men just running at each other? what the fuck
You forget, in ancient and modern times alike, the pugilists if you can call them that as the word itself implies an artist who pummel each other senseless for the pleasure and amusement of the mob, serving as the tool of illusion and sorcery of the ruling elite and merchant class, such arena fodder and mascots have always been, always are, and always will be, slaves.
Art, of any kind, does not exist in the mainstream anything, period.
Fighters are made redundant, expendable, obsolete, as fast as toilet paper in your beloved MMA. It's all about the hype, and the beer-muscles and adrenal rush. Some nobody wins 2 fights and they casually affix the "best pound for pound in the world" phrase on him, which has about as much value as the word "natural" does in food products, that is legally, NONE.
..Mongolian wrestling, they throw the enemy down, but don't roll around with him, which is actually logical melee fighting, knock him off balance, kill him with your weapon.
MMA boys and girls, in the words of Dana White the president of the UFC is a "product".
It's fucking entertainment, for you illiterates who don't understand the implication of the word product, by which the investors make a return on their investment, through commercials, and sports betting lines. Nothing to do with art.
Ok if thats your definition of a product then all sports are a product, which, by your premises and conclusion means if it is a product it is also just entertainment. That's illogical. First of all everything is a "product" as you describe it. Money is what keeps sports alive in the mainstream. Whether it's training at the school, online videos, instructional videos - nothing would last in the mainstream if it didnt generate some money; therefore, the "product" has to generate entertainment
to provide a market for the sport. Just because one form - mma in this example - generates more capital than muay thai, does not mean mma is not an art form. The argument does not follow logic. MMA is a quintessential sport that combines the grace of arts from all corners of the world into a universal pot of mixed martial arts. The best fighters are trained in the strongest areas of each martial art style, fusing them together to create, in my opinion, the most beautiful form of the arts as one
wrestling is 1 kind of fighting. what kind is best for you depends a lot on your body type, and character. i've read about ancient Indian wrestlers who not only were great wrestlers with legendary strength and conditioning, but were also known to sometimes kill an opponent with a punch to the neck, or chest. So they not only wrestled, but also fought. Real unarmed combat. Wrestling on the ground however, was only done between royal families, 1 on 1. In mass warfare, always on the feet, like Mon
The true purpose of MMA wasn't about entertainment. It was about proving which style is the superior style for fighting. I love muay thai but when I watch it I cant help but to think ... yeah these guys are good but a wrestler would just take them down and pound them out. MMA is supposed to be as close as you can get to a real fight. If you wanna learn how to fight you gotta learn wrestling too.
GURUPHOTOG, I call BS. So you are saying that if you only train 1 martial art it's an art, but if you train in more than 1 suddenly they aren't arts anymore? Please elaborate, cos right now it just sounds ignorant.
Was he seriously suggesting MMA is a setup by WWE?
I've been training for 4 years now, and if this guys thinks that what i've been doing for the past 4 years is a setup by some corny 90s corporation, he needs to get his head checked. Way to give him a piece of your mind buddy, well done.
These kids could be huge MMA fighters. Muay Thai is such a solid base to start in MMA. Just learn some BJJ and wrestling and you are golden, soon you'll be makin millions in the UFC.
What's with some of the idiots leaving stupid comments here? Why not practice martial arts before even saying something about martial arts or Muay Thai in the first place?
Now your a real fool. Ever heard of simple sentence structure? Its clearly something you lack. Go back to Nursery and stop making a complete arse of yourself on the internet. I thought that people on the internet might be mature. Well done idiot, you just proved me wrong.
probably the fool that follows him. First of all hes already a fool, secondly hes being even more of a fool for following another fool. Therfore he is the more foolish of the two.

You call that circus an art?
bhibatsu 2 years ago
bhibatsu, you're ridiculing the ufc because silva has a boss, decided to cut weight to a class that fits his frame better anyway, and because Rich Franklin uses footwork effectively? Would the ideal fight for you be two hyper aggresive, untrained men just running at each other? what the fuck
knysna360 2 years ago
You forget, in ancient and modern times alike, the pugilists if you can call them that as the word itself implies an artist who pummel each other senseless for the pleasure and amusement of the mob, serving as the tool of illusion and sorcery of the ruling elite and merchant class, such arena fodder and mascots have always been, always are, and always will be, slaves.

Secondly, these "mixed" fighters, have not mastered even 1 art, so they have to rely on fitness and endurance.
There is a word for "mixed" breeds, I believe the word previously used by the gentry was a "bastard".
Jack of all trades, master of none.
You have heard of this phrase?
To adapt, be resourceful, learn from friend and foe alike, has always been the hallmark of a warrior.
bhibatsu 2 years ago
Well thanks for sharing your opinion.
Art, of any kind, does not exist in the mainstream anything, period.
Fighters are made redundant, expendable, obsolete, as fast as toilet paper in your beloved MMA. It's all about the hype, and the beer-muscles and adrenal rush. Some nobody wins 2 fights and they casually affix the "best pound for pound in the world" phrase on him, which has about as much value as the word "natural" does in food products, that is legally, NONE.

mma is boring.... this is entertament.

..Mongolian wrestling, they throw the enemy down, but don't roll around with him, which is actually logical melee fighting, knock him off balance, kill him with your weapon.
MMA boys and girls, in the words of Dana White the president of the UFC is a "product".
It's fucking entertainment, for you illiterates who don't understand the implication of the word product, by which the investors make a return on their investment, through commercials, and sports betting lines. Nothing to do with art.
bhibatsu 2 years ago
Ok if thats your definition of a product then all sports are a product, which, by your premises and conclusion means if it is a product it is also just entertainment. That's illogical. First of all everything is a "product" as you describe it. Money is what keeps sports alive in the mainstream. Whether it's training at the school, online videos, instructional videos - nothing would last in the mainstream if it didnt generate some money; therefore, the "product" has to generate entertainment
paulbeachum7 2 years ago
to provide a market for the sport.

In mass warfare, always on the feet, like Mon

its actually better now ever second fight is a knockout basicly
NLThaiboxer 2 years ago
The true purpose of MMA wasn't about entertainment. It was about proving which style is the superior style for fighting. I love muay thai but when I watch it I cant help but to think ... yeah these guys are good but a wrestler would just take them down and pound them out. MMA is supposed to be as close as you can get to a real fight. If you wanna learn how to fight you gotta learn wrestling too.

GURUPHOTOG 2 years ago 2
GURUPHOTOG, I call BS. So you are saying that if you only train 1 martial art it's an art, but if you train in more than 1 suddenly they aren't arts anymore? Please elaborate, cos right now it just sounds ignorant.

thank you andy that guys an idiot
slablife81 2 years ago
Was he seriously suggesting MMA is a setup by WWE?
I've been training for 4 years now, and if this guys thinks that what i've been doing for the past 4 years is a setup by some corny 90s corporation, he needs to get his head checked. Way to give him a piece of your mind buddy, well done.

NLThaiboxer 2 years ago
These kids could be huge MMA fighters. Muay Thai is such a solid base to start in MMA. Just learn some BJJ and wrestling and you are golden, soon you'll be makin millions in the UFC.
