Nobody really takes the R&R hall of fame seriously do they? They have proven many times over that they don't go by talent or quality. Thats my take and it always has been.
'The Madonna Vs Linda thing is silly. I' ve. been in love with Linda ever since I saw the Stone Ponies play their first L.A. show. Years Latter Madonna opened for my band in N.Y. They both had their own kind of greatness, and I bet they admire one another.
Isn't she great, - beautiful moving voice. Just because people enter the hall of fame doesn't mean they are any good. I don't think Linda needs that type of recognition anyway she already has it. Did anyone see Madonna on the Graham Norton show, she had no personality, mimicked the occasional yawn and was so far up her own arse. Poor Graham.
Since the first time I looked into her eyes, and heard the passion of this shy, fragile angel at the Troubadour in L.A., there has never been another female singer to me that compares. It would be a life's dream to meet Linda, and play guitar along with one of her songs. Man, what an angel. And, although I agree with falcon, she has always been more than worthy of the R&R Hall of Fame. With all due respect to Madonna, or any other artist, female, or male.
How could anyone possibly sing this song any better than Linda Ronstadt?? She nails every song she sings... Amazing the way she remakes fantastic songs and improves on them!! Wish I could meet her and have a chat....
Wow that is Awesome I sure wish I could belt that out like she does, I'm afraid if I tried everyone would be plugging up their ears and running away, lol!
There is a nice video of Linda doing this song on a 1970 tv variety show. Bobby Darin accompany's on acoustic guitar. Give it a listen, she really comes from the heart on that video as well. One of the best female voices ever!
now there is another great band. Don Henley, Glen Frey, Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon (the original nucleus of the Eagles) later with Timothy B Schmidt, Joe Walsh replacing Bernie Leadon,, and Randy Meisner. (hell freezes over) they were all there sans Randy Meisner.
this of someone with a very versatile skills, where song number one does not sound the same as song 163 in their reportoire, which is what madonna is like. Linda will always be remembered by true hardcore fans for her talent, not because she's controversial. and Remember the Eagles? they were her back up band in the early 70's.
I have been a fan of Linda since the days of the Stoney Poneys, and I have followed her career through all the changes, going from pop, country, big band standards, to new age, and back to rock and folk, and even mariachi music (el canciones mi padre - songs of my father).
madonna may have made it to the rock and roll hall of fame, but in the long run people like linda ronstadt who was the early pioneers of popular music will always be remembered for their talent (ie: singer, song writing skills, musical talent, etc,..) rather than how hot they looked on stage in a floosy lingerie.
I read something about this song, somewhere. The text went along the lines of Linda being the only one of few. Who could sing this song. The author said no other female singer had even attempted to do it, possibly because of the intimidation factor.
The author must have made his comments a few ,or more, years ago. After checking out a couple of the covers for this song, on YouTube.
I have been listening to this song for a long long time way back in the 70's and never get tired listening. In fact this is my favorite song of Linda. When Linda was in our area my wife and I went to see her show even though I just had major surgery at that time. Here I am still enjoying this song almost 40 years later.
have you ever heard linda sing when you wish upon a star it is so awesome sing it to my baby grandson who was born on my 59th birthday he will be one in a few days and i will be sixty i love him so much he is the greatest present not my blood but he is my heart and when i go so see him everday i said give nana kisses and he does
This is such a great song if you want one to give you the inspiration to blow your brains out. I can never listen to this song as it sounds so ungodly sad. I hated this song when it came out in the fall of 1970 and I still hate it today. Not because its bad song but because it such a sad song.
She was also breath-taking in light opera [Pirates of Penzance] and all the classics she did with Nelson Riddle. Always trying to stretch her repertoire.
I agree with who anyone who writes these words---- " I can hear this over and over, and over adain. And see her over and over and over again. She was so freaken cute."

I fell in love with her voice when "Different Drum" came on the radio.Enjoyed her music since,no matter what she sang it beautiful to my ears. Thank You Linda!
Who hasn't felt the pain of loving someone who shows no response? But who could fail to respond to Linda and this beautiful song? As myrnlynn1117 said, 'they sure don't make them like this lady anymore'. Falcondriver100 says it's a joke that Madonna was inducted into the R&R Hall of fame but Linda wasn't. Don't worry guys, Linda's a superstar and will be long remembered as one. If anyone remembers Madonna, it will be as a girl who performed with pantyhose on her head and never learnt to sing.
@jothos1 I will certainly agree on most of what you are saying. It is very true, who hasn't felt the pain of loving someone who shows no response as you so rightly point out. Music has changed since the times when songs such as those Linda Ronstadt sang seemed to melt through our hearts and gave us so much inspiration and hope. Linda Ronstadt is a one of a kind gem that needs no props or artificial hype, she is real and has talent. Linda's work speaks for itself and will always remain.
@falcondriver100 well its unfair to Madonna because Linda started her career in the 60s and 70s...best music was done then...in my humble opinion ;)...you had to be much better in these decades than in the 80s...and i like the 80s...i fucking hate the 90s...urgh.
@falcondriver100 - Part of that problem ( not in R&R Hall of Fame ) is that she can't be put into one category. She covered R&R , country, Mexican, romance, opera, blues, groups ( W/ Dolly & Emmylou ) , etc... Whatever she sang, even the crap songs that stay popular , came out exactly right. Keep watching - It will happen !
@alski888 THE greatest? I think Ann from Heart, Mama Cass from ... of course you must know, are great singers as well. Don't need to limit yourself to just ONE great singer .. IMHO
@3koger Linda was married to the Govenor of Cal Jerry Brown She may not be in the hall of fame. I understand the man that contols most of the inductees is the Ceo of the RnR hall of Fame, or whatever you call him. There have been people that have been inducted into the RnR hall of fame that have not got half the talent as some who have been. Its really a sham! Oh I mean shame.

Its a real shame when a whole verse of a song is chopped up because of T.V's time restraints. I recommend finding the full version, Its simply as beautiful as Linda. This is her best song ever..
I don't know if it was chopped because of tv time restraints. This performance follows the 1970 single released by Capitol, which also omitted the instrumental break in the middle and the last verse. Radio stations in those days wouldn't play the full 4:21 version but the 2:59 edited version. Of course, things have changed since then and now it's the full version that gets played while the edited version has largely been forgotten by radio.

An all time favorite song, one of those tunes that make a person stop long enough to savor the essence of this Classic tune. Angel Boy (EXLIBRIS Publications)
Linda. Mi vida, mi amor , mi ser! Como tu no hay nadie, ni nunca lo habra. Tus canciones son como besos de miel, si, tan dulce y sinceras, como eres tu.
When I was a teenager in the 70's I loved Linda Ronstadt! No it wasnt because she was hot, it was because I recognized someone who sang from her heart with passion. She was really special.
Why is anyone talking about her innocence? Her virginity? Damn, this is beautiful talented woman. And yes I had a crush on her. Who cares about those things. This lady could sing her ass off, and make you melt at the same time. Thank you Linda!
@warr0950 I've noticed that while Americans are obsessed with 'losing their innocence', they oddly never ever go looking for it. A writer, Richard Condon (Manchurian Candidate) once said, "We lost our innocence on the boat over here". We think we are so special that a God is actually aware of our miserly existence. lol
One reason could be that on this song, Linda sang from the heart as if she had lived every word. She was 23 when she recorded LLT, still young enough to be naive and innocent in relationships that didn't work out and didn't know why. Her vocal on the song I found to be incredibly sad and all too real. And I know of other performers with versions of the song that were devoid of any emotions. It was nothing personal to them and they didn't connect with me the way Linda did.
@warr0950 Scam artists were always looking for ways to take Linda to court & her virginity would come into question. Linda was married to Bobby Darin as she bought the rights to the copyrights of Sandra Dee from 2 actors that made up the character of Sandra. She could not have sex until she was sure that there would be no more trials. They separated. Bob was said to have died but she couldn't find his body. Jeannie C. Riley composed this song, I am going to love you for a long, long x.
@iriswigle it's people like you who get a rise out of spreading malicous gossip about folks they don't even know! your comment makes absolutely no sense! do you even know who linda ronstadt is? never was she married to bobby darin,,, she's NEVER married anybody. also, ms riley didn't write this,a man named gary white wrote it...finally, the rest of your facts must of been given to you while you were sipping tea with the 7 dwarfs! let's all respect this lovely lady...shall we? display some class
look, this is the best song video ever - bar none. take it with a grain of salt. i can tell you its quite significant in terms of magic. i am strong @ 195 and 10% fat, but this music makes me think of past times and Yosemite. It's best for me now. love
@powerkor I love Linda to pieces and respects her talent and all very much, but lets be honest here.... She was probably not pure since teens . By her own admission , she used to be a very horny young women. She has stated that she got into trouble in her teens messing around with boys at the Catholic school she went to. She also stated that she was way to interested in boys early on in her life and experimented way to early. Nope- not innocient here by a long shot. Love her to death, but....
@Caprizonica LOl YES she sure did... and she could turn on that look.. at will till her 40's lol I have watched her do it .. on various videos from the Nelson Riddle and a couple she made with co-singers into the late 80's She knows how to use those big adorable eyes of hers too.... What she does is this: She is singing and gets to a certain part.. opens those eyes up even bigger, looks right into the camera... fakes shyness/looks down/tilts her head, looks back up... God it is so cute!
@Caprizonica I do not mean to imply anything bad... She is the greatest! And a great person for sure.. She had looks, talent, great personality, charisma, a natural talent and very sweet..... I do believe that she would have made a wonderfull wife if she had chossen to do so.. but that was not for her by her own admission . I am just not sold on the idea that she was innocient though! lol lol
wow! so natural.we dont get to listen to this kind of staff on radios this days.its all non sense this days.takes me back in the day.love it love it love it
@MrBEB123 Didn't your mom teach you that religion and politics should not be discussed over music. Linda Rondstadt was one of the greatest artists of the last half century.PERIOD!

When I was a teenager in the 70's I loved Linda Ronstadt! No it wasnt because she was hot, it was because I recognized someone who sang from her heart with passion. She was really special.

@teamUSAisgreat You're right but still, she was insanely gorgeous!

We think we are so special that a God is actually aware of our miserly existence. lol
slightofffist 3 months ago
@warr0950 AMEN. You said it all my friend!! We all had a madd crush on her and have forgiven her for the whole Jerry Brown thing.
zitdoctor 2 months ago
One reason could be that on this song, Linda sang from the heart as if she had lived every word. She was 23 when she recorded LLT, still young enough to be naive and innocent in relationships that didn't work out and didn't know why. Her vocal on the song I found to be incredibly sad and all too real. And I know of other performers with versions of the song that were devoid of any emotions. It was nothing personal to them and they didn't connect with me the way Linda did.
Zacomonta 2 months ago 2

@Lindawatcher shocking revelations he,he.. she has this innocent look.
Caprizonica 3 months ago
@Caprizonica LOl YES she sure did... and she could turn on that look.. at will till her 40's lol I have watched her do it .. on various videos from the Nelson Riddle and a couple she made with co-singers into the late 80's She knows how to use those big adorable eyes of hers too.... What she does is this: She is singing and gets to a certain part.. opens those eyes up even bigger, looks right into the camera... fakes shyness/looks down/tilts her head, looks back up... God it is so cute!
Lindawatcher 3 months ago
@Caprizonica I do not mean to imply anything bad... She is the greatest! And a great person for sure.. She had looks, talent, great personality, charisma, a natural talent and very sweet..... I do believe that she would have made a wonderfull wife if she had chossen to do so.. but that was not for her by her own admission . I am just not sold on the idea that she was innocient though! lol lol
