Even if you don't like them, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, And Justice for All and The Black Alvbum are all regarded widely by rock critics as 4 of the best albums ever released and it's their job to be impartial. Fair enough tell him to broaden his music taste but metallica are vastly better than you make out.
