I know you don't use PT but I just really need to now how to use tthese impulses on my mac with pro tools and amplitube. and one short question. When I download a lecto amp there is only a VST as the single file where would I save this file to use it in PT? Or would I have to download the VST to RTAS wrapper? Thanks.
Hey man nice channel! I know that I sound like a total noob but where do I save the guitar hac impulses? Just leave em in any document? and also, I want to use this on PT9 HD and Amplitube 3 but from what ive heard pro tools only takes rtas so i need a vst wrapper. But yet at the same time in my plug ins folder in pro tools folder they all have the plugin icon but are dmgs compared to when i try to use pro tools with a vst! Even amplitube has saved as a vst (VST FOLDER) but dmg in pro tools fold
This sound has been haunting me for several months now. How did you obtain this deep effect? I run my preamp through a kefir, through a focusrite sound card. The sounds are pretty similar, yet, I can't figure out how to obtain this quadrophonic/stereo effect. Great riff and sounds, congrats!
So, you just plugged your guitar in line and recorded this riff direct to your soundcard/interface? Or micced something before apply the impulses? Cuz your riff sounds so smooth dude..
Great vid, thank you! I am just reading myself into how you use IRs and this helps a lot.
Oh, in case somebody doesn't know it: In Amplitube you can click on "Prefs" in the lower left corner and there you can bypass -globally- all cabinet functions. That means, you don't have to edit any of your presets if you want to use something like kefir after Amplitube.
Makes it easier to to skip through presets without having to bypass the cabinet every time.
ok but if you bypass your cab sim in amplitube you also bypass all of the cab settings that are a part of amplitube. once you load the impulse are you only stuck with the options in kefir? because if you are , you mine as well just stick with amplitube and mess around with the cab settings there, you have more options.
Thanks for the links, im on my laptop now but I hope they work on my mac. I really wanna get some impulses, sounds like this is what I needed forever ago when i spent hours tweaking the damn cabs lol
@fearcomplexmusic awesome. quick question man. Im a college student, so budget is pretty tight. What audio interface would you recommend for a $100-200 price range?? i already have amplitube and revalver along with cubase. Btw, you have some awesome stuff on here. I subscribed :D
@darkais776 I'd recommend a line 6 product in that price range. A toneport or pocket pod or whatever they're called now. Good devices and they come with Pod Farm.
@TheFredster93 An impulse is a snapshot of a real mic on a real cab. The speaker cabs in amp sims are created with some code magic, which would be just fine if they sounded as good but most of the time they don't. Impulses have started to appear in amp sims but they are still imo inferior to the impulses made by users with their own setups, for metal at least. The amp sim guys tend to throw a mic in front of a cab the old fashioned rock way but with metal you have to be precise with placement.
@fearcomplexmusic cheers man, im not sure how to use only one amp and get it coming out of both spekaers it comes out only right spker :s, i want to use one amp one cab, replace the cab with an impulse as you have shown, very helpdul vid!! and great riff
Does anyone know if there is an equivalent for Mac G5 (PPC) please? Don't wanna keep having to record in Windows then migrate into ProTools for Mac every time I need to record decent guitar!
i'm not a noob at using impulses but i've got still some questions about it: do you think it is better to use a plugin like kefir with just ONE impulse, using lecab and loading more impulses at once or using something like voxengo boogex where you load just one impulse as Kefir but you have the chance to set parameters here and there? (of course free plugins)
I got up to step 5...i'm using Guitar rig 5 as my amp sim...how do i bypass it? I thought i did bypass it by clicking the power button by the CPU meter in guitar rig but when i add the impulse loader and choose an impulse the sound doesn't change...
@fearcomplexmusic i use a mac/logic. its not compatible :/ i have been tracking my bands music all summer and i start mixing in about 2 weeks. i want it to be really high quality but i always get stuck on guitars. Hit me up if u ever have time JROCKS4JC@YAHOO.COM
For the people who can't get a decent tone with keFIR;
Try "Poulin LeCab 2" (up to 6 impulses with one VST and nice adjustment options for every single one) or my favorite, Recabinet 3.
Recabinet 3 isn't free though, but there is a demo.
(And while you at it, try TSE X30)
@fearcomplexmusic, hope you don't mind. It's just so frustrating if you hear such samples and can't create a similar preset/impulse combination on your own,
you know. :| Thought I share my personal solution. Cheers!
I have a question, sir. I am new(er) to using cab impulses because I used to be all live recorded tones, before I switched to digital.(Easier to keep clean) But, I am using the VST and everything in this video, and I have 2 seperate guitar tracks in Cubase5 using Amplitube Metal as my amp sim, and I do everything as the video says on one track, but when I apply everything to the 2nd track(whether I use the same or diff cab impulse) it has way more high end and sounds like the bypassed cab. Help?
I am a mac user, and I found the easiest way to get these to work is through logic pro. I downloaded a huge pack of mac friendly cabinet impulses (google for it, you'll find a nice set eventually), and just used the Space Designer loader to add the impulse to my track (as if you were adding a patch to the track). That combined with whatever other patches you use for your tone should set you on the path to getting tone like this.
dude how in the world did u get that guitar tone? i use my guitar rig interface it works fine with impulses, im just amazed on how clear your tone pops out, what exactly do i need to make my sound clearer, its decent, it just sounds a bit in the distance.
@fearcomplexmusic alright well i found my mistake. since i dont record through mic's i use my amps Headphone input to send a signal to my computer, i used the distortion from my line 6 and then used impulses on it, followed by other vst's to EQ my sound, but i just noticed its a way clearer sounds when i plug straight into my interface and use the impulse, the distortion isnt so heavy, but the sound it way clearer. now to EQ the drums, another mission..
Well... i can see that most of troubles are from ppl that uses MAC... anyone discovered how to use them in MAC? I checked all the comments trying to find any answer but didn't had any.. Thanks
I use Sonar and have loaded kefir successfully. The problem is I only hear the both sounds of the amp and the kefir's samples. Is there a way to bypass the amp totally and still just to hear the impulse just without the amp?
@BrunoDzogovik Did you ever find out how to do this ??? And also does anyone know why when i play the guitar it doesnt play sound in the speakers until like a half a second after i strum the guitar
trying to bypass while routing to a real 1x12 cab and it sucks. i even tried putting it through the poweramp section, it fizzes like a bad buzzsaw distrotion like there is no tomorrow...must be my amp???
someone told me i could use my real amp head and 4x12 cab for these impulses is that right? if so how do i go about doing it?
im using a line 6 guitarport with rifftracker and my amp head has a line out on it. the amp im using is the new d100 dime head. please let me know some suggestions how to hook it all up. i know i plug my guitar into the amp head and run a guitar cord to line out of the amp and into the guitarport interface.
Thank the lord, you finally brought to my attention what I needed to make these amp sims sound good. The only thing is, how do I tell which impulse is best to use for my tone, and what the hell do all these names and numbers mean?
Hi , I'm new at this and I'm having problems with the file .dll in the download link, i have download this file, and added to the VST plug in file but, how can I open the impulse loader?
Do i have to install reaper? It is a program? o wath, I wissh you could help me with that!!
@ovnianopolus if you have an impulse load that works for AU or RTAs or whatever other formats macs support. I'm pretty sure this particular impulse loader is a VST so it only works for PCs. However there are programs to use VSTs on a mac but they don't always work. Look up VST Mac Wrapper or something along those lines, you'll find something eventually.
@falco1407 You plug your guitar in to your pc. You should use a guitar interface for this, plugging straight into a line in or mic in will result in a lot of latency/delay. I recommend one of the Line 6 usb devices. They work great and are affordable.
I plug mine directly into the PC and was experiencing delay problems until i downloaded and installed the ASIO4ALL drivers. Now i plug my guitar into an adapter that plugs into the line in for my pc mic and boom, I'm rockin.
This works awesome...thanks man....I am new to impulses, and I usually mic my cab with great results. But I downloaded both, and opened Kefir in Cubase 5 on my other guitarist's tracks. He uses a modeler( i think in logic 9 or amplitube metal). Anyway I threw these impulses on under an insert plugin, and WooHoo...sounds huge compared to his thin tone. Thanks again! Simple and effective! 5 STARS!!

@PortalRealm Same problem here.. Im a Mac user, I draged and drop the dll file into all vst folders posible preent in my computer, and nothing happened... my daw never show it as a plug in... what can we do???
For those of us using reaper its quite simple, First load amplitube or w/e simulator you're going to be using. After that's loaded Click the FX button on the left hand side. Amplitube should pop up. In the bottom left corner there is an ADD button. Click add and load up the VST for the impulses. Load your cab of choice and enjoy!!! Took me a few minutes to sort that one out but he did leave that part ou.
@09TheNameless I use a POD XT and makes Line 6 sound way better. just bypas the cab simulation and record it. like the vudeo said it will sound like shit but then you add this and it does wonders
@WinterMadness05 you're either not using your Podxt drivers in your DAW, or you have the buffer set too high and its causing too much latency. Make sure you're using the ASIO drivers for your interface.
@6EELZE6U6666 Ok i found my problem with ASIO drivers but there still seems to be a bit of latency... what should i do.. also is there a way to bypass the pod completely or do i have to just turn the monitor volume down through gearbox so i can just hear the impulse?
thx 4 this,i figured out now with the difference sound.but the sounds have too much bass and my master really peak up...any idea? i`m using cubase 5 win7 x64
i dont get it, i have both amplitube, the plugin in the right folder, i dont see how you get the Kefir loader up to open the impulses while amplitube is open, can anyone help?
is the impulses for already recorded tracks to boost the quality or is it like a real time effect?
Dude I downloaded an impulse loader for my macbook pro (Amplitube 3), I have the impulses you provided, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to load the impulse loader PLEASE HELP ME!!!
what is throwing me off and I'm sure others, is that you are showing keFIR as an image of what looks like a stomp pedal...how does one open this (keFIR) option to load the impulses into????
@fearcomplexmusic I know this may be a dumb question but, by "DAW"...are you referring to something like Pro Tools or equivalent?? I am just running Amplitude 3 a plugging my guitar into soundcard on pc..
@Blade00Warrior Yeah you need to run it inside audio recording software, such as protools, cubase or reaper. It has to be loaded in there, it can't be run from the desktop or inside Amplitube.
@fearcomplexmusic I have one more dumb question..and thank you by the way for all your help. I have Acid pro 7...side chained amplitude then kefir...loaded an impulse...but why can't I hear the fx sound?? it comes in just normal acoustic like.
@fearcomplexmusic hey, i've followed this procedure (drag + drop keFIR_v1.dll file into C:\Program Files\VstPlugins, exactly like you said) - but it doesn't appear in ProTools at all...? ProTools plugins are under 'mix' > 'inserts' but i don't see keFIR there? Can you help?
@fearcomplexmusic Thanks for quick response, im going nuts trying to sort this, damn technology! I don't know how to individually refresh plugins folder for protools...? (I cant even find the actual protools plugins folder on the computer?) i did however restart my computer... I have a VSTplugins folder under that exact filepath so i just assumed it was that - but it may be a redundant folder from when i used Sony Acid Pro ? Downloaded Reaper to try it but its not free.
Every time I open up Amplitube, no matter what setting I use I never get a distorted tone . It's like it doesn't even work. What setting did you use to get the pre Kefir sound?
This riff has a Van Halen Vibe!

Can all of this be done on a MAC???
ovnianopolus 1 year ago
@ovnianopolus if you have an impulse load that works for AU or RTAs or whatever other formats macs support. I'm pretty sure this particular impulse loader is a VST so it only works for PCs. However there are programs to use VSTs on a mac but they don't always work. Look up VST Mac Wrapper or something along those lines, you'll find something eventually.

i have a question. so i would plug the computer into my amp mp3/cd player in jack or i plug my guitar into my computer?
falco1407 1 year ago
@falco1407 You plug your guitar in to your pc. You should use a guitar interface for this, plugging straight into a line in or mic in will result in a lot of latency/delay. I recommend one of the Line 6 usb devices. They work great and are affordable.

@fearcomplexmusic k thanks man
falco1407 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic

5 STARS!!

Now bypass the cab in your amp sim (it will sound like shit!)
yeah, like it sounded any better before :D
GrowlingVocals 1 year ago
can some1 please answer if this is for MAC as well? plz thanks
PortalRealm 1 year ago
For those of us using reaper its quite simple, First load amplitube or w/e simulator you're going to be using. After that's loaded Click the FX button on the left hand side. Amplitube should pop up. In the bottom left corner there is an ADD button. Click add and load up the VST for the impulses. Load your cab of choice and enjoy!!! Took me a few minutes to sort that one out but he did leave that part ou.

will this work for pod farm 2?
09TheNameless 1 year ago
@09TheNameless I use a POD XT and makes Line 6 sound way better. just bypas the cab simulation and record it. like the vudeo said it will sound like shit but then you add this and it does wonders
brettakapedi 1 year ago
@brettakapedi I have a Podxt aswell but mine seems to delay and it still plays the pod sound even when i load kefir into reaper?? any suggestions?
WinterMadness05 2 months ago
@WinterMadness05 you're either not using your Podxt drivers in your DAW, or you have the buffer set too high and its causing too much latency. Make sure you're using the ASIO drivers for your interface.
6EELZE6U6666 2 months ago
@6EELZE6U6666 Ok i found my problem with ASIO drivers but there still seems to be a bit of latency... what should i do.. also is there a way to bypass the pod completely or do i have to just turn the monitor volume down through gearbox so i can just hear the impulse?

gearsofpizza2 1 year ago
@gearsofpizza2
you load vst-plugins into your DAW (Cubase or some other recording program for computers)
In his case.. "reaper" as he said.. its a recording program..

is the impulses for already recorded tracks to boost the quality or is it like a real time effect?

when i clicked on the link which u mentioned kefir impulse loader only the dll. file is downloading but no installer
moneymoney220666 1 year ago
@moneymoney220666 there is no installer, just copy/paste it into your VST plugins folder. C:/program files/VST Plugins is what it usually is.

thank you so much for the downloadlinks :) man im so happy that i found this video :)
Valtyas 1 year ago
what is throwing me off and I'm sure others, is that you are showing keFIR as an image of what looks like a stomp pedal...how does one open this (keFIR) option to load the impulses into????
Blade00Warrior 1 year ago
@Blade00Warrior First put the kefir dll file in your plugins folder. Should be C:\Program Files\VstPlugins
Then go into your DAW and load kefir as an effect, put it AFTER amplitube or whatever amp sim you're using.
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic I know this may be a dumb question but, by "DAW"...are you referring to something like Pro Tools or equivalent?? I am just running Amplitude 3 a plugging my guitar into soundcard on pc..
Blade00Warrior 1 year ago
@Blade00Warrior Yeah you need to run it inside audio recording software, such as protools, cubase or reaper. It has to be loaded in there, it can't be run from the desktop or inside Amplitube.
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic I have one more dumb question..and thank you by the way for all your help. I have Acid pro 7...side chained amplitude then kefir...loaded an impulse...but why can't I hear the fx sound?? it comes in just normal acoustic like.
Blade00Warrior 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic hey, i've followed this procedure (drag + drop keFIR_v1.dll file into C:\Program Files\VstPlugins, exactly like you said) - but it doesn't appear in ProTools at all...? ProTools plugins are under 'mix' > 'inserts' but i don't see keFIR there? Can you help?
NevvyC 1 year ago
@NevvyC Did you try refreshing/rescanning your plugin folder in pro tools? Does Pro Tools use a different folder than C:\Program Files\VstPlugins ?
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago

What setting did you use to get the pre Kefir sound?
buttholesurfer101 1 year ago
@buttholesurfer101 Check your input level in amplitube, you might need to adjust your interace input. If it's too low your gain will suffer.

@ADoseofReality1 your plugins folder, probably C:\Program Files\VstPlugins
you then open it in your recording software
