  • No sound Mario....=(

  • Hey Mario, I have problems hitting my backhand shot straight. Whenever I return my backhand, it's always heading towards the right side of the court from my position. Any tips on how to make correct shot placement with my backhand?

Btw, can you make videos on volleying and net coverage too? =)

  • Mario, how do I hit a one-handed backhand when the ball has already bounced high enough to be at shoulder height or above?

I keep having to slice it back. Thank you:)

  • @RescueRanger99

You might need to hit it at the rise, which means that you need to meet the ball earlier. Alternatively, you could wait for the ball to drop to waist height and execute a shot.

  • @Ferreristic Hmm. In other words, I'm not treating my backhand like my forehand in that I'm not attacking the ball. Rather, I'm waiting. I'll try that. Thanks!

  • @Ferreristic

No worries, it's actually a tough thing to do especially when you're up against someone who can hit very heavy topspin shots. I looked at Mario's technique and I can safely say he hits the ball on the rise and not wait for shots like I do =P

On the other hand, I have problems hitting straight backhand in a match. My shots often goes towards the right of the court. Any tips on shot placements on bh?? =)

  • NOOO!! my favorite tennis coach lost his voice!! please hurry and try to fix this thanks

  • @Mariomst Hi great videos, I was wondering if you can tell me whether I should hit a two hander or one hander, I hit both and I can't decide on one, and players always pick on my backhand in tournaments, which is better???thanks

  • @MrPURECONTROL - I would go with a 2 hander and a really good, one hand backhand slice for when ever you need defense ....

  • Ya...Mariomst, I also found out the same issue, I have no problem to hear your voice for this video after 00:10 from my laptop, however, when I used my phone (maybe happen on some of the phone too, I have a Samsung Rant) to watch your video via youtube, there is totally muted(after beginning music). I think that was most of people are talking about.

-Yes, your video is loud and clear on the computer.

  • u have the continental grip on bevel 1 but it should be on bevel 2, no (some1 asked this in ur FH video too)?

i thought the contact point for the 1-hander is more in front than the 2, but in both videos u said 135 degrees in front?

Mikhail Youzhny moves his left hand towards the net on his follow through... i know another player who was coached to do this, as well... i think this is strange, do u?

  • @mephatboi - Youzhny is a little unorthodox, semi two hands on the backhand some times, one hand some times, what you say in the forehand ... I wouldn't copy him ...: )

  • Great, finally found this one hand backhand video I am looking for.

Pretty good, I will keep practicing it. However, sometimes I found out the ball I hitting out, I am not able to "looping" the ball. Is that because I didn't under the ball and following the circular motion?

  • @mluvw47 Probably, you also may be a little to far from the ball, causing you to swing on a semi even plane, get a little closer and the racquet will drop a little lower naturaly .... good luck !!!

    Mario

  • This is the best instruction video for one hand backhand. It really helps. Thanks...Mario.

  • @whoyouwhoyouwho - Thanks, I'm glad it helped

    Mario

  • I'm not sure why you can't hear my voice, it's never happened before but I'll look into it ....

    Mario

  • is this video like muted or something?

  • I can't hear anything.

  • great to see another quality video Mario. When are you going to make that dvd to put on the market. saludos desde australia

  • @kimoiya911 - Thanks a lot !!!!

  • i never knew about the two ways to follow through, thx

  • love his videos, great instructor, thx!

  • @APsYleX - You are very welcome !

  • This instructor is very sound in technique. I've watched hundreds of instructional video on Youtube, and thus far, this instructor is the best. Listen, watch and learn for him. Btw, I am a local tennis coach myself.

  • @racer250nyc - Thanks a lot, where do you teach ?

  • Mario - I think your content is good and you hit a nice one hander, but the editing in this video would improve its quality. For example, in the section where you discuss finishes and the difference between a firm wrist or flex wrist finish, the footage of you hitting balls shows when your voice is giving a cue for a visual explanation of the differences. I can tell that you are showing different finishing positions by what you are saying but I can't see that since the shot footage covers it.

  • great stuff, Mario! You're a great teacher!

  • No problem, the HD quality video is running now .... Glad I can help !

  • Alas, the HOLY GRAIL of tennis shots.

  • @Samprasisthebest LoL I was thinking the same thing. Like the earlier poster , I have never been explained the 2 ways to follow through regarding the wrist ! I started practicing the 1 hander about 1 year ago and I think I have everything down except after watching this video I know for sure I have been using both follow throughs only because I wa late on the set up and my racquet is to heavy. I about to get a lighter racquet and now it's onn :)

  • Question Mariomst. For years I've hit my one hander starting with a straight arm or near straight arm (ala Stefan Edberg/Gasquet), but have been experimenting with how to start the arm with more and more bend like you use in your video here. One of my students is learning the one hander, and I'm wondering which to teach him (as I've always taught straight arm). Which do you feel is more effective?

  • @Samprasisthebest - two hander

  • Thanks for putting this up! All your videos are great :) They've really helped me a lot.

  • @Sinerra - you are very welcome !
