  • JAred what about this years contest

    \

  • jaRED i havent voted im just a kid but am from SRB even though this was awesome commercial

  • Thanks buddy. Yeah there's no need to vote on this. It won last year and is on TV now as a national commercial. Thanks for your compliments.

    Jared

  • YES!

    Nice goin' buckaroo!!

  • Thanks Brett.

  • Excellent Ad Jared. Congrats.

  • Thanks Dan.

    J.C.

  • Congradulations Jared. This is one of my favorites of yours, REALLY well done. You deserve it.

  • Thanks Nathan,

I can't wait till (hope it occurs) we work together on something. I think we could bring a wonderful Abbott and Costello feel to a script.

    J.C.

  • Nice job Jared. Post production really tightened this up. Looking forward to the next project.

  • Thanks Mark.

  • Jared- another awesome video! You're sooooo creative! Where do you get access to all of the costumes you use? You're awesome and talented!

  • Thanks intuey. I rented the chain-maille from Tony Swan. He owns a business in Burbank, Ca. called 'Sword and Stone'. He has swords/costumes/weapons etc. etc. for 'Pirates of the Carribean', 'Conan The Barbarian' and countless Hollywood flicks.

It wasn't cheap but I wanted to give TaxSlayer an authentic look. It cost near $300 to rent.

  • AMAZING! This has to win!

  • Thanks Art.

  • Great video!

  • Thanks williamdouglasb.

  • Good job the quality is very good I can learn a thing or 2 from u 4 sure...

  • Thanks rarereed.

  • Yankees suck!! And this ad is not far behind!!

Kind of silly and incoherent in places.. not sure who or what the barbeque scene was all about... sorry, this one swallows the sword..

    knife try... but no cigar!!

  • Hey fapvango, when you state "Yankees" are you referring to the baseball team or people that live in the northern (specifically NE) portion of the United States? Hmmm, just curious. Also, did you have the audio on when you watched this? How else would it have been "incoherent"? Again, just curious....How else could it have been "incoherent"? Again, just curious.

  • I was born a Bronx 'Bomber' not far from the Stadium. Educated at a univ. at Boston 9/62-6/70 became a turncoat during '67 Impossible Dream season. Since, learned how to cry with the Sox and more recently how to cheer! Incoherent = lacking logic or consistancy.. use a better dictionary and you will find that it means more than just unintelligible. That's how else it could have been 'incoherent' even with the audio on.. thanks for your curiousity. I still think the ad in question needs help!

  • Actually, incoherent means 'disordered, unconnected, and/or inharmonious' none of which apply to this video, but do apply to your comments. Maybe the humor confused you? Or you're pluggin someone else by 'dissing' JC? Still, no need to be mean. Just because it took you 8 years to graduate, assuming you did, don't take it out on others. (OK,OK, LOL. Don't take everything so seriously.)

  • Main Entry: in·co·her·ent

    Function: adjective

    Pronunciation: -&nt

1 : lacking coherence: as a : lacking cohesion : LOOSE b : lacking orderly continuity, arrangement, or relevance : INCONSISTENT

2 : lacking clarity or intelligibility : INCOMPREHENSIBLE

    - in·co·her·ent·ly adverb

from fapvango: I believe I said pretty much the same thing... 8 years of higher education = figure it out... this is becoming a stupid joke so why don't you put your head down and rest a bit? This is beneath us, agree?

  • Agree it is stupid and beneath me. I'll not reply again. Since you're obviously not a 'real' account, I assume you're here only to insult JC. You'd do better to try to create a terrific ad yourself, but it would probably be in-co-her-ent. Keep trying.

  • Hey wait guys, don't quit. This was fun. I usually have to go to Wikipedia for this kind of entertainment. You gave me an idea for a whole new TaxSlayer spot. Maybe after this contest they will choose some of the 'incoherent' commercials and ask us to re-edit them to make some 'sense'. At that point I will ask fapvango for some consulting assistance . . . . or not.

  • Maybe FlabTango can help you with your ad after all, JC. You know - explain to you that part about it being tax 'Slayer' instead of tax 'Layer'. If only you'd known... Gosh, then it might have been clever, comical, cogent, and consummate. Oh, it already it is those things. How about that?

  • Don't worry about "fapvampire" Jared. There's nothing incoherent about this video. And the entertainment angle keeps those channel surfers from trying to catch the next wave. Of course I just replied to fapvango directly and the post disappeared. Go figure.

  • This is a really good vid...But that is to be expected from a pro commercial producer and contest enterer LOL...but anyway, it exceeds the length rules, as stated in the official rules that entries must be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of one (1) minute long.

  • Hey Cloudnine50,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on the video.

I see what you mean about the file length. The actual content though is exactly 1:00.

  • Hey Cloudnine50,

I think I know to what you are referring regarding video length. In the HEINZ contest, Heinz was kicking back videos if the 'file' length exceeded 30 seconds. It didn't matter to them even the actual 'video' part of the file was only 30 seconds.

That was quirk specific to Heinz.

In competitions I have been part of, before and since, the administrators have been cool with black slugs before and after the content. The net result is a smoothing out the viewing experience.

  • Say, Cloudnine50, seems to have the stopwatch out for most everyone's video. Let me share a tip with you. Try scrubbing through the video and you'll see it is exactly 1:00. The extra second listed in red is an artifact of the YouTube encoding process.

  • Actually, I think Coudnine50 is the result of the Heinz contest, where even if there was a black slug (1 second) in the beginning and end of the spot, HEINZ kicked it back and disqualified the submission (file) was longer than exactly 30 seconds. It was one of about 1,000 flaws to the Heinz contest.

Alternately, in this contest (a more legitimate contest in my opinion), TaxSlayer is no where near as neurotic as Heinz was, and are in fact looking for a legitimate commercial.

  • having just danced with my tax man all week...hysterical

  • Is this something Derrick should know about? And wow, your feet must be killing you.

  • Awesome!!

  • Thanks 'M'.

  • it reminds me of the actor john goodman! so funny jared! we support you here in south korea (filipino workers).. goodluck! 5*****

  • Thanks trebor and friends,

Salamat Po from the bottom of my good looking chubby white boy, tah-bah-choy heart.

  • Can't stop returning to watch this ad. Very funny and delivers the goods, as was said already. Memorable, like the gecko and the caveman! 5 stars. mac

  • Thanks macvideo1,

You made my day. Right now I am sitting in my hotel room out in Ventura county looking at Catalina Island over and beyond the deep blue betwixt myself and 'it', and I can't for the life of me decide which is better , . . . the 'view'. . . or your comment about my video. ha ha Ha Ha, cough, spit, sputter, eh hem.

  • Very funny... I trust you'll be able to decide. What are you doing out there?

  • Took a little two day respite from the computer with the family. Taking advantage of 'spring break'. Went out to the Lancaster to photograph the poppies but they were weak this year, so we decided to go back out to the coast. We ended up doing some whale watching today. No whales but we were treated to a school of about 1,500 dolphins.

    Pretty cool.

  • love the commercial very nicely done keep up the funny commercials

  • Thanks Nazareth.

  • Jared,

Nicely done. What I like about it is that not only is it very professionally produced, you've done a good job of delivering the products benefits. It appears right on strategy. 5 star it is....keep up the good work.

  • Thanks chishomfilms,

The priority with any commercial is to make sure the product get's sold. I am grateful for your compliments and observations.

  • Excellent!! Very creative and well done.

  • Thanks rainwater01.

    J.C.

    JCE.

  • this commmercial and video is worth more than five stars.

  • Wow, hey thanks Joe. That's like gold coming from a true blue east coast Boy.

  • well done, where do you rent horse & armor? cgi?

  • Hey Geo,

I rented the armor from Tony Sway of SWORD AND STONEdotCOM. He does all of the weapons for many hollywood productions. Pirates of the Carribean etc. It wasn't cheap. $300 to rent my authentic chainmaille.

The horse I used on the property of a couple Dan and susan who live out in Riverside County.

No CG for the acting. It was all real live action. I used LiveType for some text and Final Cut for the edit.

Thanks for subscribing to the channel.

  • 5star

  • Sorry Geo,

I meant Tony Swan (with an 'n'). He is out of Burbank, Ca.

  • message received thank u

  • nice :)

  • Thanks alexander.

    Jared

  • television ready

  • great video

  • Thanks Jonathan.

  • that was good! you have great vision and ideas!

  • Thanks RIPFILMS.

  • will you be entering the nesquik contest? I am! i hope you dont lol i want a chance hahaha

  • Not sure about the nesquik contest. I have 6 hours of footage I just shot of my sons 3 day field trip (which i was a chaperone on), that I need to fashion into a half hour program. I might be out of the contest loop for a month or so. After the field trip project I have to start on my nieces wedding video that I shot up in Sundance, Utah 3 weeks ago. So I am going to be busy on my backlogged stuff. Who knows though, I am a contest junkie.

  • well you have until september... but i suggest you dont enter lol. i dont need the competition lmao

  • As always.. good stuff!!! Nice Pacing-kept me watching!

  • Thanks bosekproductions.

    J.C.

  • funny stuff! Great concept! The horseback part is the best.

  • Thanks man. I appreciate the love.

  • Nice production, natural acting ..great work. I like your other contest submissions as well.

  • Any words of praise from Joey and Vito is like winning the lottery. Hey when you guys get that huge niche following that makes you cult superstars, let it be known that I was one of your #1 fans, and I was there at the beginning.

  • very clever weave of the required elements into a nice comedic script. great acting. british accent a nice touch. has a feature film trailer feel to it.

have to give it five stars. one of my top three picks to win this contest.

  • Thanks lefteater,

Wow, glad you liked my spot. Sounds like you otherwise might have taken a bite out of it and spit out what you didn't like. ha Ha.

  • LOL, another gem sir!

  • Thanks Eric. Aside from winning money, receiving praise from my peers is wonderful payment for the hours (weeks) of toil. I do appreciate it much.

  • I love you running towards the flames then they show the box on fire LOL funny.

  • Funny what a coule hirspray cans taped together can do. I did however singe myself, so you have to be careful when you do it.

  • Contest Slayer- you know, like slay the competiton? You're worthy competition for Madison Avenue. Finally, a commercial that's fun to watch!

  • Thanks Eric,

BTW, did you know that your star wars spoof video was the first video I ever watched on YouTube almost two years ago?

  • Great job with this one. My favorite shot is the one of the horse running across screen. well put together.

  • Thanks for your post. I also liked your spot with the various woman enjoying success using the product. Your use of graphics was great. Good luck in the coming month.

  • Fives *****

  • Thanks Cornhill.

  • This is nice work. Jared, were you the DP? The editor? Really fine pacing. (five stars)

  • Thanks Caroline. You Rock. Yes I am the editor and DP (Shared with Mike V. when I am on the horse). thanks for your kind words.

  • good one bro 5 stars

  • I like this one. Love him in the knight suit.

  • Thanks a bunch Zack.

    J.C.

  • Oops, Sorry 'M', the 'Matt' comment was meant for goYankeesgo.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks a bunch Matt.

    J.C.

  • Jared - I'm on board and this is great !!

  • Love the scenery - must be a nice area where you shot the horse scene :) Great commercial, if I saw it once it would be one I'd look forward to seeing it again (if I ever watched TV). Hope they use it.

  • Shot it in Riverside, California, on an equestrian ranch owned by Dan Ferguson. The horses name was Star. She was great.

  • OK I.M. you got me. I should have know better when you said it looked like a " . . . nice area . . . "

  • I was serious, it does look nice!

  • It sure does. It actually could pass for an English countryside scene.

  • As my friends Bartles and James would say; "Excellent!" Of course you most aways impress me and I appreciate the humor and wit!

    Jon

  • Thanks for tuning in Big Jon. Always good to have you here on the channel.

  • Jared, this is hilarious! Good job!

  • Thanks you my friend with impeccable taste. Ha Ha.

  • great job and funny

  • Thanks DCF.

    J.C.

  • waww u made that video ??? !

    u are a great filmmaker !! congratulations :)

  • Thanks Alexander.

    Jared

  • your good at these, teach me!

  • Thanks Jay. I am flattered by your 'tongue in cheek' jest. But you yourself have quite the skill set. You are doing OK. I would love to have just Half the subscribers you have.

I was glad to see you get re-instated after the debacle several months back. You are a subscription gathering maniac. Good for you. How is the collaborative effort going between you and that DJ kid?

  • Great stuff, love the vid, 5* A.D. :))

  • I guess the horse was a good sport, then...

  • Yes, but it was very irritated with me. It was a very sensitive horse and was confused. It knew from the length of my feet (the stirrups) and size of my body how much I should way, so the extra 70lbs of chain maille kept throwing me off balance and she did not like it.

I was almost thrown twice. It was a little risky of a venture.

Though it costs twice as much, I know for sure in the future, I will rent aluminum maille instead of stainless steel. It is about 1/3rd the weight.

  • Sorry, the horse was a 'she' not an 'it' and her name was Star. She is owned by Dan and Susan Ferguson of Nuevo California and she was a wonderful mount.

  • I bet she was. XD.

  • Incredibly good ad, as usual, JC. Great cam work and content. Love the horse and chain mail - how'd you get hold of all that?? Ought to win, bud. I too like this version slightly better than the first - good call. mac

  • Thanks 'T',

I rented the chain maille from Tony Snow in Burbank. I was very fortunate that he gave me an appointment. he did all the swords/weapons/ etc. for Pirates of the Carribean, Conan the Barbarian (the list goes on). Just under $300 to rent the chain maille. 70lbs on top of the 250 I already weigh. Poor horse. After five hours in the saddle we were both worn out.

  • As much as I liked the first version, the edit to the opening and adding you getting off the horse makes it even better. Of course, both are still 5* winners!!!

    Taters

  • Thanks 'C'. You and Mike are always so great for my ego.

  • 5 Star Material as usual... but then again, I expected nothing less.

  • Thanks Matt,

How are things over in the madmans workshop?

  • very nice!

  • Hey matlock,

Sorry about that last reply post. I accidentally hit the button for stephstrand. By the way, she is a great young up and coming film-maker/singer/songwriter. If you get the chance you should check her out. She won't disappoint. I especially love her music related videos.

  • Jared, you are the ad king!!

  • Ain't that a kick? At the same time you were doing the British/Scottish/Irish accent thing in the hills of Riverside, I was doing almost the same thing with a V.O. only 50 miles away. (of course I would never be able to do the V.O. myself so I had a Brit do it. Ha ha).

  • Awesome job Jared.

  • Thanks Peter.

  • To borrow a phrase from SNL...

    I need more chain maille!

  • Thanks for the support CP. You are stallworth, steadfast and fanciful.
