First time I've seen anything like this. I am impressed! You didn't post any dimensions for the cardboard riser that goes to the bottom of the rack but I assume you want the cooking vessel to be centered on the dish. I am also assuming that it doesn't take very long for the water to reach the boiling point. Excellent video!
Dims for cardboard riser irrelevant. The struts were simply measured so that cooking tray was at same level as focal point. Then cooking pot, when placed on tray will sit snuggly in middle of focal point of cooker. Water took 15 minutes to get to temperature. The sun was ebbing as it was late afternoon so it took longer than usual to get water up to boiling point.
You can cook anything on a parabolic cooker. For a steak, I would suggest a 1 metre dish. This size cooker you simply pop cow straight onto cooker, and have your self the monster of all steaks in minutes.
For every square metre of sun which falls on the Earth it equates to 1000watts of energy. So a 60cm dish is in effect 600w, a 1m dish is 1kw, and so on.
10ft dish - yes please. Seriously powerful, and also very dangerous. Don't go walking in front of the focal point of a 10 footer, it would literally burn a hole straight through you. Stirling engines seem to be the only way of converting solar energy to other forms of energy.
i have an old satelite on my house, what did you use to cover it with, thats obviously not foil.and thanks for all your help with the fruit trees, they actualy look good so far,and im sad to see you unsubed already, altho your not getting much useful info from my channel.cool vid man.
Howdy, get that old satellite put to good use, you won't regret it. The reflective material used is not foil. It is 'chrome reflective vinyl' you can purchase it from ebay or a site called SolReka (solar cookers) section.
PS I've just subbed to your channel, I like what you post.
Good thinking batman, dandelions and egg - yummy. This was my first proper YT upload, so just testing the waters, the fresnel lens and burning random things is next on the agenda.
haha love the fact the coax is still attached... lol
Nuggets of Truth had a simalar setup a while ago (saw your vid on his channel - your featured) I have a 1M dish, I guess if I used that it would make quite an easy task to boil up a pan of water.
I guess I should've chopped cable, I thought I might need it for something (what I don't know) so I left it attached, just in case.
You have a 1m dish - show off :-). Yes that would boil water in no time. Parabolic cookers can be dangerous, so any readers embarking on this great hobby - BE CAREFUL. Where sunglasses and never leave a parabolic cooker unattended.
Great use of recycled materials! Thanks for sharing. Jodrell bank now taking bookings for Weddings!
