Since Utah has no gay marriage, then gay people cannot marry in any case, and are therefore exempt from any considerations regarding their marital status. You also might have noted that the Swedish case of Åke Green, mentioned in the same paragraph as the New Mexico case, aside from being in another country (with a different legal system and constitution)... doesn't have anything to do with gay marriage either.
First of all, he was acquitted on appeal. Secondly, it has to do with hate speech law, not gay marriage. Thirdly, the whole case and appeal was concluded in 2005, four years before Sweden legalized gay marriage.
I'm relatively familiar with the case both as a Swedish citizen (born and raised in the US), and also the fact that I was in Sweden between his conviction and acquittal.
Coincidentally, the Swedish Christian I talked to about it actually disagreed with me - he thought that Åke Green *should* have been convicted, while I supported his freedom to preach against homosexuality!

Gays want to change the definition of marriage. But marriage comes with explicitly procreative rights - like the right to be presumed the father of your wife's child (unwed couples have to go through a paternity action to establish this).
I do not dispute your right to have a recognized life partner - only your right to present this union as "the same as" marriage. It isn't.

You also might have noted that the Swedish case of Åke Green, mentioned in the same paragraph as the New Mexico case, aside from being in another country (with a different legal system and constitution)... doesn't have anything to do with gay marriage either.
First of all, he was acquitted on appeal. Secondly, it has to do with hate speech law, not gay marriage. Thirdly, the whole case and appeal was concluded in 2005, four years before Sweden legalized gay marriage.

Coincidentally, the Swedish Christian I talked to about it actually disagreed with me - he thought that Åke Green *should* have been convicted, while I supported his freedom to preach against homosexuality!

Discrimination Law is soon becoming the law of bullies. A business should be allowed to refuse service to whom the wish, after all in this day and age this action would be simply a receipe for dwindling business. The law should never be grounds for determination of how a business should be run. However, though I do not agree with the way of life I know many gays which are infact more Christian (in action) than some which proclaim to be. "Let he who is without sin first cast the stone"

I'm in Britain, so the arguments don't work as well here, but the government in England still only allows civil partnerships, not full-rights gay marriage, which makes me incandescent with rage. I'm going to start properly questioning why this is, and do some research to veto the anti-marriage stance.

You can't prove a negative.
If your goal is to prove that the children of gays don't have problems, then you still have a few thousand variables to go. At least. Maybe a few hundred thousand.
Nothing less than 3 generations will do.
Trouble in relationships? Does lack of a father impact a girl's communication with a husband? Trust issues? SO many issues!

The child's best interest is served only by an intact family where the man and woman live in proximity, have a strong working relationship, and put the child's needs first.
If this is untenable for political reasons, we need to acknowledge the conflict openly - not try to minimize or deny it.

Another complaint: the tests are inherently biased, because science cannot test things like "well adjusted" or "happy" or "good parenting".
Someone has to input these as VALUE ASSUMPTIONS. That means someone decides what it means to be happy, what it means to be well adjusted, blah blah blah.

Even if kids turned out PERFECTLY well adjusted, the fact is, you are depriving them of something they have reason to value.
You cannot say that the right to participate in experiences, the right to have valued relationships, or the right to not be treated like second-class citizens by being deprived of valuable (relationships, experiences, things, whatever), is important FOR YOU but then hold a different standard for your kid.

Again - I do not dispute a gay person's right to have their life partner recognized.
I only dispute that they have an equal right to the benefits that are procreative in nature, and the right to have their relationship be viewed as "the same as" a real marriage.
They're not the same in kind: one relationship is a kin relationship, and the other is not.
What gays really want is the right to force us all to lie, so as to PRETEND they're the same - even to the point of forcing their kids to lie.

@vicorii How do you know they put their sexual pleasure before children, assuming they even have any? Many same-sex couples have been together for years, even decades, in committed relationships, with less sex and more companionship, just like straight marriages.
You're not forced to morally recognize anything-legally, though, equal rights is a must. Your assumption that this is by definition harmful to children is entirely without evidence.
All they want is to recognize different things.

Marriage AS GAYS UNDERSTAND IT and parenthood are not the same thing.
Gays want to change the definition of marriage. But marriage comes with explicitly procreative rights - like the right to be presumed the father of your wife's child (unwed couples have to go through a paternity action to establish this).
I do not dispute your right to have a recognized life partner - only your right to present this union as "the same as" marriage. It isn't.

If it isn't, then we lose the justification for the procreative benefits - which includes most of the benefits gays want so badly.
Benefits tend to go away after they lose their justification, so yes, the answer to this question is a big deal.

Ever heard of assisted reproduction? Surrogacy? Adoption? These are available to same-sex and opposite-sex couples in the US REGARDLESS of whether they are married or not.
Extending marriage rights to gay couples would void formal adoption requirements if, say, a lesbian couple gave birth through IVF, which would only help.
But here's another request: Show me where these benefits have been lost in any jurisdiction that has added a same-sex marriage statute.

And I'm still waiting for you to show me a procreation/parenthood statute. If marriage is first and foremost about children and their needs then there must be MANY explicit laws decreeing that a marriage license is null and void without procreation intent.

Prove to me the daughters of gays don't feel grief at having no father to dance with at their wedding, or no mother the day their first child is born.

Except that not every marriage has children. Some people marry to make families, for purposes of property inheritance, to get out of the house, etc. There is still nothing on the books that validates a marriage SOLELY ON MAKING CHILDREN.

I do think, however, that any parents who are unwilling to put the child's welfare above their own ego, their own emotional neediness, their own status-seeking - these people are BY DEFINITION bad parents, whether they are gay or straight.
It isn't that they're gay. It's that they can't separate their own needs from their child's, & are parentifying these children.
