Thanx Dude, i tried to help out my neighbours kid and infact all it needed was a bit of rubbing alcohool and a qtip to clean the lens and it was good to go, A1 :)

hey i have a junk 40 gig non bw compatible and a ps3 80 gig that is bw compatible.the 80 gig wont read the games or movies...can i take the eye out of the 40 gig and put it the 80 gig to fix the 80 gig disc read error...i know that the 40 gig eye works let me know asap

Im Trying to fix my ps3 and when i get as far as looking at what the laser does im stuck. When i insert the disc it just does one 2-3 second red flash and thats all it does. Any idea what that means? Do i need to clean it or replace it? thanks

I have a question no one has been able to answer yet, hope you can help! When I opened my system, I was flipping through a few different video guides on how to do it, for cleaning etc...When I tried to take my Blu Ray rive off, the cable ribbon isnt held on with a clip to the bottom of the drive, like ALL of the ones I could find in any videos. My cable ribbon is TAPED on to the bottom of my Blu Ray drive, and Im not really sure about removing the tape. Please help if you can, thank you.

@MissLaazlo just rip it off carefully you'll be fine. worse you can do is damage the cable and buy a new one for 6 bucks on ebay.

@GamerGuy51 You actually can get the Security Torx at a hardware store. Go to Home Depot they have a set for like $6. All security. There is a set T4-T10.

@MissLaazlo Mine is the same, Ordered a "working" drive off ebay and noticed the differences right off the bat. All the videos online are showing a diff sys than mine. Mine has a plastic power supply, the disc drive dose not have the optical sensor on the top and the disc drive logic board is internal. So "new" drive is on return and I dont want to do this again if they are just going to send the same part.

When troubleshooting the original drive, I found that when a disk is inserted, ---

@vdubvance The blue ray will come on and the disk spins for less than a second and stops. Now here's the kicker, when a disk is inserted with the white magnetic bushing removed, the disk will rev up and the blu ray will start lighting up as if it wants to read. so motor works, lasers work... any ideas? maybe my lens is out of alignment? I'm having bf3 withdrawl's bad.... Burnt right after download of new maps.

i done all that and it still want read any discs i put in . when i put a disc in it flashes blue then starts to spin but it never loads. what can i do to fix this ?

I'll try the screwdriver, but I'm sure no one tried to open it, as the seal was still on the machine and the screw looks to be in perfect shape, it just looks miscast very slightly.

It was definitely a security bit, had the hole in the end. One thing I noticed is that the screw had the security 'bump' but it wasn't near centered so it would likely have been impossible for me to use the security bit anyways. Wonder if the screw in mine is faulty or if it was done purposefully by Sony?

@JoyousOblivion sounds like another dude tried opening it. also, don't worry about it, just use a flathead that will fit in the hole...open sesame!

No matter what I try, a #10 Torx security bit will not fit into that initial hole...

Hey guy, i'm about to sub and like this vid. I just followed your tut after receiving my lens and it all worked out perfect. I had a bit of a scare when i forgot to replace the the white magnetic cap but as soon as i did the disc started spinning properly and now i'm enjoying my 3 once again!!!

@tickno sometimes the lid doesn't sit on the track properly, usually happens with 40gb and 80gb for some reason. Just keep doing it over and over and adjusting approach angles. lol. you'll get it eventually.

I had this blu-ray disc problem and it showed that it was loading a game but the game didn't start, so I removed the blu-ray reader and replaced it with a new one. But now it doesn't even show that the game is loading? You know what the problem is?

@xQNS you need to get the logic board from your old drive and swap it with the new drive. thats why its not reading. the boards are coded to work only with 1 playstation.

make sure when changing the BD laser that theres NO DISC in the drive... most people make this mistake and than have to reallign the loader mech.

I've gotten to the point where you test the laser by putting a disc in. My disc does not spin when I insert it. Is this still a laser issue?

@domio1986 yeah their coded. you could replace the drive and keep the logic board but you'd be wasting money....most ps3's drives are fine. they just need new lasers or lenses.

I followed all the steps,but i guess i kind of broke that holding piece at 1:17 and now the drive system it kind of not connected to the main system. The The disks do not go in automatically and they are not read, even though i kind of taped that holdin piece to the flat cable. Do u think thats the cause? Any advice or help?

that clip is a magnet for newbs for some reason they always break it. u just use a fingernail to pop it up gently not pry it off with a screwdriver...lol
