I started to watch your videos on knives. I like listening to your English. The content of most of your videos is fabulous. I love the microscope knife edges, the x-rays and the detail. Well done. I now subscribe!!!
In a few of your videos you mention you make your own trophies, would you consider doing a video documenting that process? Have you ver been hunting anywhere other than Japan?
@bsred733 I have never hunt outside Japan. I have a video on making my trophies. "Stag Trophy Making / the complete video" you can find it on my channel. It's a very long video and will be boring. Thanks.
Hey, virtuovice, have you considered using a plastic sled for dragging the meat and head? It seems there's enough snow for it, and could be used to shovel out emergency snow shelters. Would it be too noisy for hunting?
Thanks for sharing your hunts and knife tests with us. I've watched many of your videos and never commented until now as I had to send hearty congratulations on that wonderful stag. Well done sir!
It's interesting to see how our fellow hunters around the globe pursue their game, so thanks again.
@SamuelSavage777 They have quite good quality for the price both on folders and on fixed blades. Once their 420HC has a convex edge on their hollow bevels, it holds fairly well.
i must say i very much enjoy all of your vids.keep up the great work...awesome stag, congrats.,i was wondering how many stags are you allowed in japan per year.generally speaking we here in u.s.a. are allowed 1 or 2 on the east coast(white tail) per year depending on # of tags you get.it seems in japan the hunters are allowed a large # of stags...once again good job, and thank you.
@bonecollector1968 We have no seasonal limit at all. It's because we have much over populated deer and very few hunters due to the severe gun control law and the extremely peaceful education. Thanks.
Great to see you get so exited about the stag, a beautiful animal for sure. I am thinking of getting a gunny, as it is about the same size as a F1. The F1 is probably my favorite stainless outdoors knife. And getting something similar in A2 and a proper convex grind seems a good bet.
@Stargazer88 Rampless Gunny is recommended. It's quite versatile. Many stocking dealers send it to BRKT for ramp removal modification before shipping.
You did mention that you aged the meat for about 2 weeks at 5 degrees celsius. Is that a method for bleeding or draining the blood? or its just to make the meat taste better? I read somewhere that you need to bleed the stag or any "big game" after a kill for health reason. I might be wrong. Hope you could explain. Perhaps after you shot it with your shotgun, it took long enough time and it bled enough and safe for consumption after you knife them? Im pretty new to this. Thanks.
@metawolfdblade he ages it because fresh meat isn't terribly good to eat. By hanging it up for a wile, it becomes more tender and better tasting. bleeding a animal is as far as I know only necessary with boars and such, to ensure that it is dead. I might be wrong about that. Deer, moose and other animals of that family, does not need it however.
@metawolfdblade Deer sometimes have E hepatitis virus. It infects by eating meat raw. I don't eat meat raw at all although I quite often eat fish raw. Anyway deer don't need draining the blood but washing it before aging. During aging cold temperature and air circulation must be kept. So I hang meat in my garage. Thanks.
Nice Trophy Wako!!! As always I love your videos. Especially on the Bark River Knives. Living in the state Michigan most all my life, we were raised on Bark River, Northwoods and Marbles knives. All well respected. I wish I could afford to buy them all. Thank You for sharing your hunt and knife experiences. Keep them coming!!!
Great stag Wako! Please show us where you mount it in your home. What a beautiful day for hunting, I miss the snowy days we used to get around here. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!
Thank you for the story of the hunt, most interesting. This must be the King of Stags around the area a truly magnificence animal. How old do you think it was? also how can you tell the age and what is the life span of the stags? This is your best Stag that I've seen and good luck with the rest of the season.
@eightgeorge Japanese deer is said to live for 6 years in average. So I understand it is 6 years old when I get a full size stag. Actually the antler size can be divided into 5 categories. But this one is super large and has senile anomalies. So I guess it is 8 years old or more. Thanks.
I love your video of you walking while dragging meat and head. You have come very far grasshopper........My strop is not here yet.....Thick and Hairy is what I asked for.
You should get a sled to drag the meat on. A foam sleeping mat (for camping) with some holes in it would work pretty well and roll up for storage on your pack, they also don't weigh very much. Nice deer.
@donabb01 I don't like night walking. So I carry back just 6 muscles and a head. When I was a beginner, I ever got 25kg meat and a head from a stag. Then I walked dragging them on snow until 9 pm in darkness drinking river water. That small trophy is the most important one still now. Thanks.
Excellent deer! Great story. I was interested to hear you comment on the warmth of the hidden tang knife.. it is a consideration for the hunter in winter. You used to see a lot more of them than you do these days.. Great video. The hunter's life is truly a rewarding one!
Another great video. Looks like your wife filled most of the cabinet shelves behind you except for the deer head. Does she let you display your trophies?? LOL.
Is Hokkaido deer same species as Honshu deer? They look bigger with larger antlers than Honshu deer I have seen. They look allot like North American Wapiti though smaller.
@AhnkoCheeOutdoors Honshu deer and Hokkaido deer are basically the same species. I hunt up north on Hokkaido island. But Hokkaido deer down south is much smaller even on the same island. Thanks.
I like that you show respect and honor for the stag. That you use high quality knives on our kills shows respect. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you and congratulations.
@Iseekoutthetruth I live in Sapporo city. This area is 200 miles up north. I just once met a bear during deer hunting. But it didn't stop and no chance to shoot it. Thanks.
The first stag trophy was the most beautiful I've ever seen.....if it was yours I would fly to Hokkaido and get it from you :) The second one I believe is the biggest you ever got. That thing is massive. Congratulations! As always, great video!!!!!
@ryanrrx I think this is probably why ray mears bushcraft knife is so huge! The wood lore or whatever it's called must be much bigger then even the bravo 1! However the importance of this video is about the trophy stag! It's AMAZING! WOW!
It's a great video! I see the gunny is much smaller than the bravo 1! Which is great for a pocket carry with a slip in leather sheath! This small style knife is perfect for that! Myself I prefer a big knife for bushcraft! In my many comparisons of bushcrafting a bigger knife is easier to do all tasks
Congrats on your best stag to date. Cherish your memories my friend...you deserve them. I just wish you would have had the Fox River along to do the honors although you had two very fine tools with you. Thank you so much for sharing the experience.
Hey,It is great to see someone get excited about getting such a huge buck.He is enormous and the rack is a trophy. You have alot of snow for tracking deer.Well done and congratulations on a fine hunt.I like both knives. The Bark river is well known here. Thanks for taking us all along on this hunt.Good luck on the next hunt.
Great atypical trophy stag. A once in a lifetime memory. The gunny looks like a great knife. I was impressed with the Sandvick Stainless steels edge retention.
Wonderful war dance! Well done my friend. Your account of the hunt was as impressive as the rack for your rewards. Very nice kill. And thanks for the knife review. ~Wolf
I really enjoy all the videos you give us so thank you for this. But I have 2 questions if you don't mind 1 What type and caliber gun do you use and 2 What type of predator or scavenger anilmals are in your area to cleanup the remains left behind from your hunts?
@dannyhmsinc I use .410 caliber bolt action slug gun according to Japanese Gun Control Law. Its absolute kill range is 150 yards using my self loaded ammo. I have 8 year hunting experience and after 2 years I will be able to have a high power rifle. We have many eagles, crows, foxes, and brown bears here. So the carcass goes to skin and bones in a day. We have no problem about it. Thanks.
