i tried to make this, but every time i pressed the button, it would push both lanes in the same direction, and then one lane would go back to where it started so only one lane was toggling. i tried to fix it but in the end, the pistons stuffed up and the game crashed (the saving chunks crash). so now i am sad :( . also, i was making this for a dance station because new records were coming out in 1.9, so yeah...
Hey, I used your original design and placed them right beside each other. (the design was down a long hallway.) The only thing I noticed is I had to place the blocks that would transfer apposing the one beside it. So instead of having them all transferring to the space on the right. I had to swap the direction, ie right left right left.
@gaaratoast Scratch that, setting the repeaters to no delay and using a button causes a much faster and more reliable switch. That's with the first design, not the second.
So I guess some change the devs made improved your design for you.
For maximum light, what about using both? As in spacing the top lights 7 apart, the bottom ones 7 apart, but have the darkest spots with only the roof on have a one on the floor.
@Disneyminer567: If you look at the single redstone dust on the side of the dirt blocks, you'll notice that it's star shaped. It seems to connect to all of its four adjacent blocks (at the same level), and if it's powered, it will indeed transfer power to these blocks. Thus, the dirt block is powered, and because items (pistons, powered rail or doors) are activated when adjacent or blocks above or below are powered, the piston will activate.
@Disneyminer567: I'm really not that good at explaining it either. :P
Maybe that also means I don't truly understand it - still, I like to think it's more due to the complexity of redstone itself. For instance, power is transmitted differently depending on the source (wire or torch), and it's not always apparent which block is powered.
From my own experience, you can't just know the theory. You have to experiment. Try out designs. Modify them. Just play around and develop an intuition.
@aadnk I tested it out my self and I kind of get it. I'm making an adventure map, and I'm going to use it in it. I don't fully understand how you have made the floor lighting. Can you make a tutorial. If you do I'll subscribe... wait I already am. :P. I love your videos. So that would be pretty cool to make a video for me. :D
Excellent job sir. I've been working on a floor version myself. I wasn't aware of how other outside blocks "update" and cause double toggling. (I'm pretty new to redstone heh).
thank you for this awesome video! I'm making an adventure server and this would be perfect for the starting area! I wanted a lighting system that was automatic and would give off light but still allow monsters to spawn. This is great thank you again I subbed! :D
@knarkautomat: There's a ceiling version in the schematics, but as I said in the video it wont give off enough light to prevent mobs from spawning. You'd have to be fairly adventours to use it (or playing on peaceful).
Like the ending ;) I miss machine gun bows :(

Nice, I hope I can get this to work.

can mobs really spawn in a patch that small and kinda lighted?
Aimismyname 7 months ago
hmm, when I tried this design, both pistons fire. First one, then the other. so the blocks end up in the same place.

Why do you have to put a dirt block next to the pistons?

I'd recommend testing this out yourself, though.

@aadnk I'm not good with redstone... what you said just went right over my head. :P

@rsinferno965: No problem. :D
Great idea, by the way. I suppose I haven't played enough adventure maps to see the potential of that lighting system. :P

could you modify this to be installed in the ceiling? other than that really good work! :D
