Just recommenting this, hoping people see it. Twilight has 115, 362 words. The reason I am making this really clear is for two reasons. One, your a twi-hard and you should know this. Second, because I set out to write a book longer than twilight and succeded with 118. 243
OMG! I'm a fail!!!!! 4 and a half months in America and I failed to freaking buy a copy of Bran Hambric and now I'm out of time since I'm leaving in 2 weeks and I'm not going back to the mall any time soon because I have finals next week!!!!!!!!!!! *DESPAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR*
I'm finally reading BH:TFC and I love it, Kaleb! You are such an inspiration! I am so desparate to start writing something, but I just don't have any ideas on what to write about, or for a plot... and I barely have any time these days... *sigh* real life is so annoying.
Yeah, I've been working on about 2 books at the same time because my mood on writing depends on my interest of writing. One I know will never get published for copyright reasons, but it's fun. The other I want to be a series and I've been just dragging it ON AND ON AND ON and I'm still only on the third chapter x__x I do what you did though Kaleb ... hence why I'm on youtube listening to you ramble :3
haha! loved this! Kaleb, you do need a break. Get some sun, I promise, it's won't kill you. ;) Congrats on finishing the book. And good luck taming the attitude of your hands.
I'm so happy that you're doing more vlongs on writing. I found you in my Twilight phase several years ago. I subscribed because you're an AMAZING writer and storyteller. I might not like Twilight anymore, but I still like you. (Also, you should insist on coming back to Texas for your next book tour. We miss you. ^^)
Speaking of TFIOS... did you preorder a copy Kaleb? Because you've written so much, I think you deserve a reading break, and what better book to do that with than a John Green novel?
But... don't take too long of a break. I'm somewhat interested in the whole 'how writers get paid' topic and I'd love to see you do a video on it.
Harry potter overall has MUCH more and better words than twillight and it is not just a childrens books, its one if those books that any generation can read :) it is timeless :)
Actually, if you want to get technical about it, the Harry Potter Series broke boundaries because it started as a children's book series. Many people believed that children's books couldn't be over a certain magical number of words (I believe it was 40,000) or else children would become bored. Rowling proved this wrong, however, with Harry Potter. She not only wrote a successfull childrens book well over word count but wrote a children's book series that people of all ages liked as well.
Slightly unique question for you Kaleb, I decided to move my copies of City Of Ashes, Shiver and Linger into cardboard boxes purely so I'd have room for your books on my book shelf. What kind of emotion does this provoke in you?
This is one of the biggest questions I have about being a full time author: how does getting paid work? Is it like an army pension where you get paid enough to survive while you keep writing books, or do you get a whole bunch at one time and you have to ration it out? I know it sounds like I'm only writing for the money, but I'm not! Writing is one of the few things I can do for hours on end and I can't see myself doing anything else as a profession, but I'd still like to be able afford food.
you know why twilight has more words? if they didnt have that many words no reader will grab the action it takes less words for Jk to describe harry potter and well ITS STILL BETTER THEN TWILIGHT
After following the progress of the secret book, I don't think I've ever been so hyped up to read a book. You sir, intentionally or not, are a master of suspense!
so i've had this book idea for years maybe 5 or so, and over the years the plot developed (in my head adding more and more) to the point where i know i want to actually get it out on paper... and ive tried before... and im trying again, but being a junior in highschool I have so much crap to do i can barely write, and now i am beating around the bush and just attempting certain scenes AHHHHH i so want to get this story out and glad i have you as a mentor of sorts, just want the story told/shared
LOL i think all the inside and screen time is driving you insane its cool that you know how much words are in the books the closest thing ive come to writing is a tiny thing i did for school its hard cause the were guidelines and thing i bet its easer when you don't have to follow any rules
The journey of writing a book isn't perfect. I remember getting great ideas, then writing and at a certain point I loose interest and the story isn't as exciting to write. But its not suppose to be, but it doesn't have to be a miserable experience. I thought authors get this idea and they fall in love with it so much that it's a breeze to type the whole book. But its not. A true author sticks with the writing the story, even when they don't feel like continuing, they push forward.
There is a series I'm writing that I came up with the main idea when I was 7 (I'm almost 18 now) and I didn't have a single note when I wrote the first book and I NEVER got writer's block because I grew up with the story as if it is my best friend for life.
I'm behind on NaNoWriMo and I haven't done my vlog for the day and yet here I am, watching Youtube videos about writing books when I should be doing that myself! Okay okay off to write...
I just want to say that you are possibly the funniest person I watch on YouTube. So yeah, Oh and I demand another captain martenelli!!! Please? Now? Yes? Maybe? Wow I fail at demands
You know you've been procrastinating from NaNo by watching too many Kaleb Nation videos when you have your own mini-choreographed dance routine to the jingle at the end of the videos...
I actually have a question. I love writing, mostly about romance. But the thing is I don't plot out anything I basically just think of ideas as I go? So should I start plotting? I feel like sometimes the little stories I write are a bit unorganized.
Congrats for finishing the book. Not sure you can put that in the same category as doing dishes. It always makes me laugh when you do insane things and creepy faces ;)
I am having a hard time writing my novel right now. I know, I know, NaNoWriMo, and all that, but sometimes, you can't just force it. I find myself trying so hard to write, then hopping on youtube and getting myself distracted... and rewatching the CTFxC wedding video... over and over...
I just hope this gets easier, because I really think writing is my thing, and that I just don't give myself the time for it enough. I'm hoping to get it done soon!
@msmorg2626 It gets easier when you figure out the tricks. It took 6 years to write my first book, and now I'm down to 1.5 years each, because I learned how to make things easier. Try writing a very detailed plot before writing the story. My plotting is so long and detailed it could be its own book (about 120 pages of plotting typed out). I figure everything out before I write, so I don't waste time and get discouraged / stuck. That works for some writers. ALSO: skip around parts of the book.
@kalebnation I know! I do the same thing! Sometime, if in plotting, I even write stupid things like "John sits down to drink a glass of juice. The juice is orange. It tastes sour. [Insert deep contemplation of addiction to sour orange juices]. I know a lot of people who can't get the hang of plotting and do better just winging it, but I have a better mindset knowing EXACTLY what I'm writing before I'm doing it.
@kalebnation Finally, someone who agrees with me! I always start at the end and work back. Because I'm wierd like that :P I'll hop to the beginning sometimes too, or write some key scenes and then head back to the end. It works :)
Kaleb, thanks for the added motivation to finish my NaNoWriMo (that's at about a word count of 20,000; but I suppose that's still pretty good for me. c: )
I so expected him to say:
AND
Green Eggs and Ham has used only 50 different words (not word count just different words.)
(BTW this is true)
