Just recommenting this, hoping people see it. Twilight has 115, 362 words. The reason I am making this really clear is for two reasons. One, your a twi-hard and you should know this. Second, because I set out to write a book longer than twilight and succeded with 118. 243

Harry potter overall has MUCH more and better words than twillight and it is not just a childrens books, its one if those books that any generation can read :) it is timeless :)

Actually, if you want to get technical about it, the Harry Potter Series broke boundaries because it started as a children's book series. Many people believed that children's books couldn't be over a certain magical number of words (I believe it was 40,000) or else children would become bored. Rowling proved this wrong, however, with Harry Potter. She not only wrote a successfull childrens book well over word count but wrote a children's book series that people of all ages liked as well.

This is one of the biggest questions I have about being a full time author: how does getting paid work? Is it like an army pension where you get paid enough to survive while you keep writing books, or do you get a whole bunch at one time and you have to ration it out? I know it sounds like I'm only writing for the money, but I'm not! Writing is one of the few things I can do for hours on end and I can't see myself doing anything else as a profession, but I'd still like to be able afford food.

The journey of writing a book isn't perfect. I remember getting great ideas, then writing and at a certain point I loose interest and the story isn't as exciting to write. But its not suppose to be, but it doesn't have to be a miserable experience. I thought authors get this idea and they fall in love with it so much that it's a breeze to type the whole book. But its not. A true author sticks with the writing the story, even when they don't feel like continuing, they push forward.

I am having a hard time writing my novel right now. I know, I know, NaNoWriMo, and all that, but sometimes, you can't just force it. I find myself trying so hard to write, then hopping on youtube and getting myself distracted... and rewatching the CTFxC wedding video... over and over...

I just hope this gets easier, because I really think writing is my thing, and that I just don't give myself the time for it enough. I'm hoping to get it done soon!

@msmorg2626 It gets easier when you figure out the tricks. It took 6 years to write my first book, and now I'm down to 1.5 years each, because I learned how to make things easier. Try writing a very detailed plot before writing the story. My plotting is so long and detailed it could be its own book (about 120 pages of plotting typed out). I figure everything out before I write, so I don't waste time and get discouraged / stuck. That works for some writers. ALSO: skip around parts of the book.

@kalebnation I know! I do the same thing! Sometime, if in plotting, I even write stupid things like "John sits down to drink a glass of juice. The juice is orange. It tastes sour. [Insert deep contemplation of addiction to sour orange juices]. I know a lot of people who can't get the hang of plotting and do better just winging it, but I have a better mindset knowing EXACTLY what I'm writing before I'm doing it.
