Flat plane cranks are 180 degrees hence "flat" and all inline 4 cylinder engines use them otherwise they'd be unbalanced. 0-60 accel is almost totally dependant on power to weight and traction. Aero efficiency, i.e CdA, is more of a factor above 60.
Oh my dear god! This is purely amazing, the acceleration is just phenomenal, hitting the rev limiter so fast!
I think, time to raise that redline to 7000rpm or even better... 8000, like BavarianMotorWerkz gave the daunted M3... that would make me cry in pure amazement!
he never hits rev limiter...i don't know if thats a stock engine (it doesn't sound like it to me) but lotus's (toyotas) stock engine revs to about 8500 allready...
The rev limit probably was lowered because of a new power curve occurring in the lower to mid RPMs... that and perhaps his intake and exhaust valve timing haven't been tuned properly to his new forced induction upgrade.. I'd like to see him drop in a 90 degree flat plane crank and get the ECU remapped, raise the rev limit to 9000rpm, and hit the 1/4 mile in easily less than 10 seconds... that would be purely amazing in millions of ways.
Your an idiot. Number one they are fast because they are light weight, not because of aerodynamics, number two 189hp in a car that weighs less than one ton, is like haveing 400hp in a car that weighs two tons. 200 horse power is fine.
lol fail... acceleration is determined by 3 factors: engine power, aerodynamics, and curb weight... you have a fast Lotus Elise because of its engine output vs curb weight (also known as power to weight ratio), and its aerodynamic design (able to cut through air turbulence and drag efficiently, while maintaining enough downforce to keep it from fishtailing out on curves, and losing grip at high speeds...
no shit. obviously how well it cuts through the air will be a factor at higher speeds, but at lower speeds (such as a 0-60 time) it is not as big of a factor. take the caterham r500 for instance, it is not at all an aerodynamic car in any way, but it will go 0-60 in around 3 seconds. I was not talking about how well it handles, which aerodynamics definetly plays a role. god.. you fail you can't even read.
Not a good example dumbass, the R500 isn't even considered a car that you can drive around with a roof over your head. It doesn't contain the spaciousness, comfort, and luxuries of a car, so OBVIOUSLY because the damn thing is the size of half a parking space, it'll go fast, just like a go kart or motorcycle. What makes making cars fast as an art is they can pack in all these things into a car, making it ~3000lb curb weight, and still get it to do 0-60mph in 3 seconds or less... you still fail.
fine but im still sticking with that fact that on a zero to sixty time aerodynamics do not play as big of a role as power to weight. which was all i was saying in the first place. You can't argue that.
@twiceasfastasyourass sportscars weighing 3000lb suck, though.. why would you want all that shit inside when you can get the real feeling with a light-as-a-feather lotus?
yea, 0-60mph is 3.8 secs. i've done 1/4 mile in 12.5 @ 113mph. You can get the supercharger for the standard engine from Turbo Technics. have a look on their website!
what year elise is this?

why does it sounded turboed not supercharged? Just listen to the air... dont superchargers scream more then that?

Anyone knows the top speed on a Lotus exige or elise?
I LOVE SUPERCHARGED ENGINES!!!!!! :)

Gah, I thought Lotuses were amazing but they sound like they got fucking fart cans on them.

@xdarkreaperzx because if you buy an elise you cannot afford a 500$ exhaust muffler and plumbing right?

@ez45 dude probably because a lotus is cheaper then most other sports and has in general better handling

at 700kg, I'm wondering what you did to get the weight so low?
Is the 111S just that much lighter than the 111R?
I assume the EXTRA low weight is what helps this car post such quick numbers.
