autos are faster off the line but manuals win every time. the only drag cars that are autos are old muscle cars and that's because they didn't come with manuals back in the day. if you take a manual bmw m3 and a completely identical automatic m3 (same weight, same power, etc) the manual will blow the doors of the auto. automatics use engine power to shift, and usually are slower than the shifts of a good manual driver.

@drummerblade most times the manuals have shorter gears so they can accelerate faster. thats why theres almost always and extra gear on the mt over the at. if the gear number, axle ratios, and gear ratios are the same the auto will win. a good comparison is the b5 audi s4. 5at vs 6mt but the auto can shift in .8 seconds

usually if your runnin in the tens high 400's or low 500's. that equation changes some with car weight ,power adders etc. My Camaro runs 461 hp/437 tq. and with a 125 shot i run 10.9's preety consistant.
