Hah! Nice bounce on bass...nice sustain notes on guitar..You do a Nice Rock-Job, as 37 said.
I have been very lucky to have been listening to McLaughlin for almost 40 years. My first real concert was Mahavish Orch., and Frank Zappa in Toronto in what, 1973.
I would say that less is more... turn it down and leave room for the music and the other guys you play with. Keep the grooves from those hummmable Mahavishnu tunes.
The problem is finding an audience with an ATTENTION SPAN.
I must be from the planet Fusion because I cannot understand how this video was added March 30th 2008 and you only had 171 views and one comment from mercury 110. Please encourage other young folks to keep fusion music alive! My father is from Mahvish- generation. You guys picked a wonderfully complicated classic to play. One of my favorites! Thanks! As soon as I can get a decent video camera set up I'm going to post some of my fathers own compositions. Thank God for Youtube.

i like your idea of opening it with that summary type run.
i'm less keen on hitting the low E so soon. maybe i'm too tied to the original.
