  • just like jeremy LIN

  • Greatest sports movie of all time

  • I don't care how many times I see this...I still get a chill as that final shot goes through.

  • who could dislike this?

  • This is what Indiana High School basketball is supposed to be. In 1996, the leaders at the IHSAA destroyed the beauty of a one class tournament and introduced retarded class basketball. It was more impressive to win a sectional or regional championship back then.

  • Stupid move. He should've shot a few seconds earlier to give enough time for an offensive rebound. Why not boost your chances?

  • @dookdawg214 the point is to not give the other team enough time to get a board and call a timeout.

  • @PetertheAverage

Yeah, I know, but you can give a second or two for an offensive board. That's smart basketball. All you risk is a hail-mary full-court shot.

  • One of the best ever

  • Odd film. Hokey, cheesy, cliched...and wonderful for all of that. Love it.

  • Man bryson from my life as liz played jimmy chitwood??

  • Notice # 15 white. After the winning shot was made, he's down on the floor in agony. Next thing, he's walking off to the bench, and then as the scene is ending, you see him running across the court again around the mobscene.

  • Walks right into the halfcourt trap! hahahah

  • Tonight is Butler's night - The college home of the real Jimmy Chitwood. It took two tries for Milan to do it - Tonight Butler will make it!

  • I miss Jerry Goldsmith :-(

  • "ill make it" gives me goosebumps every time

  • did jimmy ever miss a shot?

  • @mandy26lez Yes. Check out the scene early in the movie when Coach goes and talks to Jimmy while he's shooting hoops. Jimmy's making one after another...then Coach tells him he doesn't care if he plays....BRICK!!!

  • @budorob thank you! i guess if jesus can be fallable so can jimmy chitwood!

  • @mandy26lez Yes. Check out the scene early in the move when Coach goes and talks to Jimmy while he's shooting hoops. Jimmy's making one shot after another until Coach tells him he doesn't care if he plays for him. BRICK!!!! Took me prob 100+ times to finally catch it...

  • what douchebag would dislike this? must be #10 on South Bend

  • For one thing, you should never dribble in front of the opponent, he should have gotten his ass between em and rolled either way to the shot.

  • jimmer chitwood.

  • @22Steezy jimmy chitwood > jimmer fredette. sorry

  • @ThaMeast ha, laughable.

  • @22Steezy never. jimmer needs to lead BYU to the NCAA title this March to top jimmy :)

  • @ThaMeast my life would be complete when he does that.

  • "White men CAN jump"

  • @LeChatDeNoir13 LOL Cause there were only white men!

  • jimmy has a sweet jumper.

  • I have mad respect for J Chitwood and his jumper...that being said, he has the weakest crossover I have ever seen. Notice around 1:54 how horrible his ball handling and footwork is. Any decent defender coulda picked that ball and gone for the breakaway win. Dennis Hopper would've died in his bathrobe

  • Our small Indiana school once had dreams of making it to the state finals. We came one game shy of living this dream. However they we're the first and still to this day the only team to give our small town a regional win. Basketball is one of the things this great state is all about. Nothing like a winter night in a high school gym watching high school basketball.

  • If any of you coach, nothing is better than having a player who wants to take the last shot and confident enough to say they will make the shot.

  • What an outstanding movie scene. It illustrates the glory of victory and the agony of defeat...all at the same time. And the "I'll make it" is pure inspiration.

  • The one person who disliked this is an idiot !

  • the fact that anyone could dislike this is quite jarring.

  • WOW how intense is the 2:05 mark! tear jerker no doubt!

  • i have the "hoosiers" special edition dvd where they say it took chipwood only one shot (one take) to make the final shot. very mystical indeed

  • Ugh look at those goddamn nigs. Freaking disgusting.

  • this is the greatest sports movie ever made

  • That's like the 100th time I've seen that and I still have to fight back the tears. And I'm a man. I'm 40.

  • @Kickingit06 me too man. did you know the historical accuracy of "Hoosiers" is pretty correct? except it was Muncie High that beat Central in 1954 not 1951. ive seen the actual game in black and white. we're talkin old school b ball. all jump shots. and it was an all white boy team that beat the all black team...they were in fact heavy underdogs. i cant remember the guys name that hit the shot but it was a 24 foot jumper to win at the buzzer....chipwoods only line- "ill make it"..classic

  • i was short dead short thanks to "Helpo Growth Formula "

    im now tall

  • I'LL MAKE IT.....

  • Ray's nasty

  • The inspirational soundtrack by the late Jerry Goldsmith is what really brings this film to the next level.

  • R.I.P Dennis Hopper

  • "I'll make it" Quite simply one of the shortest, best lines in all of cinema. That's all Jimmy needs to say, you know right there the shot is in before he even shoots.

  • Too bad the movie shows the boys making jump shots. Set shots were the norm back then.

  • @jaydrakeuu good point, but chitwood's character is based on bobby plump, who was one of the first high school players to use the jump shot

  • On a side note, the big tall heavyset black guy who was an assistant on the South Bend bench is the brother of Basketball hall of famer Oscar Robertson. His name is Bailey Robertson. He was my junior high coach and Health teacher in the very early 90's. He was also a very popular player for the Harlem Globetrotters. Just felt like sharing that.

  • This movie is now used in management and leadership seminars across the country. It is used to indentify and demonstrate situational leadership styles. At the begining the players have low ability and willingness so the coach applies the dictatorial style telling players what to do and how to do it. Then moves to the guiding role(low ability, high willingness) to supportive with Jimmy(High ability, low willingness) and in the final scene delegating(High ability and willingness)

    A Super movie.

  • Its ironic that the 2010 NCAA mens basketball championship took place at Butler fieldhouse. The same place this championship game was filmed, and also pitted Butler(David) vs. Duke(Goliath).Just wish the ending had been the same for the Butler Bulldogs.

  • @jaydee624 this statement is not correct. The Championship this year was played at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. This was filmed in the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler Fieldhouse formerly) on the campus of Butler University, which is located on the near northside of Indianapolis. Just wanted to correct this for people who do not know!

  • @dmbfanindy thanks for the updated information.

  • probably the best sports movie ever. If you check out youtubeinterviews of gene hackman etc. they didn't think the movie would do anything.

Glad they did it anyway. love that last scene

  • Absolutely great acting in the timeout huddle, where they all basically agreed Jimmy Chitwood was the leader of the team, he was going to finish the job.

  • Someone should have let the French National Soccer team watch this movie!!! Trust in your coach babe!!!!

  • Score one, a REALLY big one, for the little guy !

IMO, this is THE best BB movie ever made !!

  • I love this scene so much. The whole movie they had to learn to trust coach, and now here he had to learn to trust them. Sometimes it's time to stop coaching and let your players play.

  • @larrymcg421 I agree with your comments

  • @larrymcg421 I agree with your comments

  • I just graduated last year from a high school right by Milan High School. We play them every year in basketball, they are in our conference. They may have been good back in these days but they are pretty shitty now.

  • I was 8 years old when this movie was filmed im from Indianapolis indiana and there is nothing special then High School basketball and it's glory days I remember when it was Filmed and I remember going to some of the Gyms that where in this movie I think it's the greatest movie of all time and is Part of Indiana History because Hoosiers is the game of life when it comes to Indiana basketball....

  • Also, if you read about it. Milan High School was actually one of the favorites the year they won. They went far in the tourney the year before. Still incredible.

  • ...or it was based off of Bobby Plump from Milan High School in Southern Indiana. It's nearly the exact scene from what I've heard.

  • Jimmy is my favorite in this movie-nice shot J!

  • one of the best sports movies ever

  • @kingbee10 one of? come on... the best

  • @kingbee10 JUST like when Indiana upset Kentucky last night! PROUD TO BE A HOOSIER!

  • This scene was filmed in the Hinkle Fieldhouse at Butler University in Indianapolis, and there was a HUGE callout for extras to fill the stands. They had to turn people away. There were more common people there in the stands for that scene that had actually been to an Indiana Final Four than I would guess you'll ever see in any movie. It was and is the greatest sports movie of all time, just as the Indiana HS Basketball Tourney was the greatest until it was ruined in 1998. HOOSIERS!!!!

  • That's right! The tournament was ruined because Indiana went to the 'class' system in 1998. The Milan Miracle is the greatest basketball story, if not greatest sports story ever. When Milan won it over Muncie Central in 1954, the tournament was a free for all and EVERY high school team was thrown into the mix. It unfortunately wont ever happen again.

  • wow, i've never seen the movie but I am going to rent it for sure. that was amazing footage. looked like the real thing. where did they get all of those people in the crowd? and the music was amazing as well. one of the best scenes in a movie I've ever seen. thanks for posting this!!!!

  • Did they have black head coaches back then?

  • This movie wouldn't make it today:

    Not enough explosions

    Not enough sex

    Not enough special effects

    and...

you have to think to appreciate it.

  • Sick of people like you who only want to live in the past and bring it back to todays world. How the FUCK do you know if the movie would make it today? wait you don't so stop slinging your shit.

  • They also didn't curse in the movie. I think you have made my point for me. I rest my case..

  • @phoenixtimes2

    Sad..but so true.

  • by far greatest basketball movie all time....HOOSIERS

  • fantastic movie

  • Maybe they we're right about us! Maybe we don't belong here!...

What a great movie. Simply great

  • "I'll make it", " Rudy, Rudy, Rudy" and my fave "Dad you want to have a catch?"

  • excellent taste.

  • The late 80's had some great sports movies.

  • Music by Jerry Goldsmith.

  • First Norman wants to use his best player by far as a decoy, then the South Bend Central coach just lets Jimmy dribble out the clock at the top of the key. Poor coaching on both sides in this sequence!

  • You can't expect perfect coaching from actors who probably did not play basketball but this is my far the best basketball movie ever made!

  • Actually, in real life, Bobby Plump dribbled out over 4 minutes in a 30-30 tie before sinking the winning basket.

  • jimmy chitwood only speaks in 2 parts in the movie...the speech at the school...and the i'll make it.yet you look at him as a big character

  • I'll make it...........greatest line ever

  • Dude has sunk the last 47 million baskets in a row, and they don't bring over the double team? :) But seriously, love love love this movie. The musical score is incredible and gets me every time!

  • Difference between films back then and films now is a good score!! Scores in films today are absolute crap!

  • Gorgeous.

  • My great uncle Angelo pizzo made this movie

  • best basketball movie ever

  • didn't even pump fake him! lol

  • Nice shot Jimmy!

  • the BEST movie of all time. I get tears in my eyes every time I watch that ending.

  • Angelo Pizzo did so many things right with this movie.

The South Bend Coach is one of them.

If you have ever coached, you understand the significance of 2:35 - and 3:00.

Small things, to be sure, but so very, very true.

May all of us have had coaches that responded like that when it didn't go our way.

  • Good point never really noticed that before. Basketball Movies they make today dont come close to this and this will keep the 50's,60's basketball age alive forever...

  • SIMPLE THE BEST AND IT'S A REAL STORY

  • What a great soundtrack

  • In a word, "goodbumps"

  • what an inspiring moment :)

  • The announcer in this movie reminds me of Jimmy Crum, a legendary basketball announcer in Ohio who did HS. and OSU basketball games from the 50's to 80's. R.I.P. Jimmy.

  • This movie actually uses New Richmond to depict 1950s "Hickory", Indiana. Very few changes were needed to give the town a vintage look. That's part of the charm of Indiana.

  • Too bad this clip doesn't have the last 2 minutes of the movie in it. Oh well.

  • the last 2 minutes are the BEST of the movie! so emotional! what a kickass ending

  • I'll make it coach. great line.

  • And he made the shot wearing Chuck Taylor Converse high tops.

  • Such a great movie.

  • A lot better show than that fuckin' RUDY shit.

  • Hey, Rudy's a good movie

  • @moslemssuck rudy was a true story! plus its comparing apples and oranges!

  • great ending to what might be the best sports movie of alltime

  • Was'nt there a player from the movie who died in real life, a few years after the movie was made or something.

  • It was Kent Poole who played Merle (jersey #12). He committed suicide in 2003.

  • It gives me a sence of joy because i live no to far from milan. The Greatest moment indiana basketball history. But not to many people know that they went to the final four the year before that

  • Great film, but it always bugged me that the defender is overplaying Chitwood's left hand. I guess we'll just assume a double-team was supposed to come, and never got there.

  • i cry every time an iv watched only a couple million in the last week

  • When you've experienced a moment like that first hand as a fan as I have, you know what those fictional folks were feeling. My high school won the state in Indiana on a last second shot in 1996, and it's an amazing feeling to see that shot fall and feel that jubilation. Add in that the 1954 game this is based on was tiny Milan vs. big Muncie Central...and it must have added even more for those folks.

  • I nearly burst into tears every time I watch this, and Shooter is jumping up and down on the hospital bed screaming in joy!

  • I love this movie. I've seen it a couple of hundred times and I can't wait for march when they play this movie over and over. I am from Ohio and have been through Indiana on occasions and this movie perfectly catches the feel of the midwest in late winter, very early spring.

  • greatest movie line ever..."I'll make it"

  • the longest 6 seconds ever... lol

  • the 3 words every basketball coach wants his players to say at a moment like that..."I'll make it"

  • IU needs chitwood right about now.

  • I love this movie. Hoosiers is the best basketball movie ever.

  • Best Sports movie ever....although Bobby Plump(The Real Jimmy Chitwood) would probably say it was a moment in his life he will never forget.

  • It's beautiful the scene, very emotive
