Simon Cowell started it to have more control over the winners, which he couldn't do as a judge on American Idol or Pop Idol, from which X Factor was spun off. I Love Leona, and I when I saw this video, I was blown away. I live in the states and I love her to death. I saw Kelly Clarckson sing this and its a totally different feeling when Leona sings it. I like Leona, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Kelly's version is more triumphant and shows vocal dynamics throughout. Leona's doesn't have as many peaks and valleys. It's just OK. Good show, but definitely not an improvement upon Kelly Clarkson's performance.
