  • Luv a bit o' Slade me....brutal...!!! ;P

  • <3

  • One of the best songs of all time...

  • wery wery good music love

  • Disco???? :-D

  • @SimmonsDrums Disco has been the title of a german TV show back in the 70s

  • @lautenist4711 now it could happen to the show, which was called disco rock song. At that time, disco was still a concept so that the show took and rock bands.

  • Far faraway an Cum on feel the noize are their best songs

  • Comment removed

  • saw Slade at Hull in 82, they knocked every other band Iv ever seen into oblivion!

  • you can very clearly hear at least some kind of distortion effect, probably analog. even though his raw singing voice is surely amazing as well, please don't delude yourself into thinking it's what you hear in this video. was probably a bad idea to ask this on youtube..

  • @Diosukekun No delusion is needed. For one sound quality is debatable on YouTube. The sound drops.Secondly having heard this song performed live several times I can assure you Nod's voice needed NO help in sounding raw. Add to that the fact that Nod personally hated gimmicks of the nature you mention along with Chas Chandler Slades manager. What you DO her is the fact that Chas used double tracked vocals which give a fuller sound. But the voice is all Nod's and not some machine's.

  • @Diosukekun As others have commented that is basically Noddy's amazing raw voice ! However I do think there is a bit of reverb applied - which makes it a little fuller than on some of the raunchier tracks such as Gudbuy't Jane - nothing fancy though.

  • this is still the best stuff Michael Cain has done... :)

  • noddy rocks anyday, what a voice.

  • what a great band ,takes me back

  • i remember seeing slade in th early 70 uk , before they were famouse cost me 50p to see them absolutley briliant night ,

  • I see Slade at the Rainbow Theatre, London, in 1973, backed by Thin Lizzie and Suzi Quatro. Still to this day, the best gig I ever went to. Long live Noddy and the boys.

  • The tune takes me back to my hometown, Chatsworth,Durban, South Africa. I salute my uncle Timer Joe who introduced me to Slade way back when I was little. To this day both of us still dig Slade although now we are both far far away from each other.

  • Fell in love with Slade in the 70's, lucky enough to tour with them on their 1981 comeback. Great times. Great music.

  • Rock lost a great when Noddy decided to hang up his hat.

  • This song has been on my jukebox longer than any other. ''The call of home is loud'' is one of THE great lines.

  • Classic Slade. Lea's melodic baseline , Noddy's voice and Hill's guitar complementing both should have made this song a regular on classic rock stations- at least in the UK. Sadly its forgotten worldwide.

  • There are no actual 'effects'. The Harmony's were sometimes multitracked but thats it! If you know Slade then you should know that they didn't need effects.

  • what voice effects is he using? can i use the tc helicon voice live 2 to reproduce that sound?

  • @Diosukekun Noddy doesn't use effects, 100% natural, that is his voice, that's how he sings. Noddy himself recounted being sent to a voice specialist and being told that there was "nothing he could do for him" :D

  • @RockLeesBitch i'm sorry but you are simply wrong. i'm not saying he can't sing anything like this, but it's obvious he's using at least SOME effects in this performance.

  • @Diosukekun How old are you? How much do you know about Slade or music in the 70s?

  • @Diosukekun What makes you think he's using voice effects?

  • To the folks dissing Slade, Slade happens to have written some of the most memorable rock songs of the 20th century. Quiet Riot's Cum On Feel The Noise and Mama Weer All Crazee Now; and Britny Fox's Gudbuy To Jane. Kizz's Gene Simmons considers Slade an inspiration. Slade had musical versatility and shitloads of spunk. They were innovators. Rock On Slade.

  • grew up wiv slade wot can i say brill

  • for me the best "Slade" song ever!

  • I like how the people are not listening. It looks like they are playing cards!

  • Probably my favourite track from the boys! Seem to recall it raised a few eyebrows at the time (1974) because it was a total change in style from previous single releases?

  • Great stuff, the drums kicking in are genius!

  • What an awesome band.Too bad they weren't bigger over here!

  • Today I spent the best part of half an hour removing the rantings of a bunch of hyped up idiots all trying to prove how tough they are. Boring ,childish and one big yawn. If you want to comment good or otherwise make it constructive.Otherwise fuck off and flex your muscles somewhere else.

It's about musical tastes and not somewhere to compare cock sizes!

  • @mickob45 Daniel Dumbfuck is another typical ignorant prejudiced American child-minded imbecile with nothing better to do than making silly arguments on youtube. It s best to ignore him as you have already found. Slade are simply the best U.K. band ever in my estimation, whatever psychotic little babies may think. Keep on rockinnnnnnnnnnnnnn and have a great weekend!

  • that voice...so strong and clear. great song and great band.

  • Одни из лучших воспоминаний моей юности группа Slade///

  • @sponge111111 YEP!

  • @carlphone haha

  • the best slade song ever

  • One of Brums finest

  • Epic!

  • The best Glam Rock band of the 70's

  • That's the dullest most ungrateful audience I can remember seeing.

  • @jaypayne Seriously! They got to see Slade! I wanna see Slade. Jerks.

  • this my moms favorite song from them, it's my best danish friends favorite song from them and mine. everytime I hear it, I remember my home and where I came from. even thought I'm growing up and I've moved out from home. I'll never forget where I came from. like he sings "the call of home is loud", it is..

  • Their best song, beautiful

  • It would have been better if 80's bands had been recorded now and the new "music" recorded back then because new stuff sounds terrible whatever quality it's played in. :c Slade<3

  • @TheWeeklyChannel I'm not sure that's right. I think it's more that it takes about 15 years to filter the crap of any particular era out.

  • That is beatiful song.

  • I think 1,716,782 views proves this is one of EVRYONES favourite Slade tunes.

  • This vocalist has voice like a gain for electric guitar.

  • awesome.................the better old times...

  • From Old, New, Borrowed and Blue -album ?

  • Man. Noddy had a a voice... One of the best bands ever. They just don't make them this good any more.

  • slade rocks on !!!!!!!!!!!

  • is it me or does slades guitarist look alot like George Harrison from the beattles. just looks like him to me.

  • when they will fix that upside down thumb?

  • SO MANY GREAT CATCHY HARMONIC TUNES DURING EARLY 70`S! This gotta be one of the best of all times!!! Loving greets from Stockholm!

  • This is Noddy's favourite Slade song.

  • This is my song since I left home haha.

  • First single i bought aged 14!

  • Great

    Amazing

    Perfect

  • jos jonaiin päivänä kyllästyn kuulemaan NODDYN ääntä olen luultavasti kuollut

  • agreed!

  • @Izznogood63 Nope. 80 s Slade is freakin E-P-I-C. Don t be fooled by sales numbers going down after 1976. The media let them down. I can listen to their last 3 or 4 albums everyday without getting bored. One of the truly best and versatile bands of alltime. Also, they continuously evolved during their entire careers.

  • I met one girl and I asked wich kind of music she prefer and she said classic rock like slade, AC/DC, Aerosmith...... Iam in love now :)

  • @SuperMrBombastic She's a keeper haha

  • Amazing! Makes my spirit get higher! Thank you lads for you and for your great music! It's a pity that we can't listen such music as this today instead of shit that they call music these days!

  • Nadzwyczajne

  • he looks like beaver.. fucking good age :D:D

  • Great, gutsy, honest REAL music

  • manigfique music Far Far Away.

  • For my money the best "slade" song ever. The drumming really makes this song !

  • Another beautiful song from the past.

    Sigh.

  • I saw them in 1982 in Derby and they were still great then, never been to a better concert. Get together again for one last tour lads, would be awesome. And it is time it was Sir Noddy Holder, if they can give it to Jagger they can give it to anyone.

  • Re the earlier post regarding The Reading Fest , they really were on top form and by Christ they didn't pull any punches .A truely great band .

  • @Izznogood63 Mate, you couldn't be more wrong. they got back together with 3days notice to play Reading 80 and totally blew the top line acts away. Best live Act of all time and I've seen 'em all Led Zep et al. Their album material is very heavy. Noddy is very proud that Slade were a very hard rocking and annoyed that they never get cred for it as they came around during the Glam era. Enormous amount of material and back catalogue on top of the million sellers. Wish they would re-group!!!!

  • from LP Slade in Flame, perhaps the best record of the Band...summer of 1974..in the top of success...Fresh sound from one of the best ever rock bands...

  • love slades music best band ever in my eyes

  • @Izznogood63 No it wasn't! They stormed Reading in the 80's and had hit singles.True they dropped from favour with radio stations and had to go back to the 'Chicken in a basket' venues. But they still packed a punch and after Reading there was no stopping them.

  • @Sladedestiny to say they stormed Reading was an understatement ! they totally blew away the headlining acts . ...... i was there lol

  • slade fan forever love nods voice

  • good ol slade! saw them at cov poly 1980, they were fantastic and although id grown up with them i hadnt been a fan til i saw them live! that says it all really dont it? love em!

  • Im a teenager, Slade is one of my favourite bands. I HATE all the new stuff, it's always a new artist ''featuring'' a slightly famous one doing rap with a part of horrendous singing added. I hate it. I do get laughed and teased about my taste in music, I also am a huge Frank Sinatra fan. I want to be a singer and song writer and have already recorded one and doing another in a couple of days, I REFUSE to write rap. THIS is the type of music I want to produce.

    P.S Im a girl.

  • @Gothicgizzmo fuck ur mates listning to car alarms annd a black guy screemin down amike about how many times hes been shot. thechnology has improved but music has declined since about 1975 from the fifties 2 the sixties thinngs were shit hot babe beatles early elvis chuck berry muddy watters t rex and defnitly the rollin stones and good old slade peace babe n god bless ol blue eyes x

  • @Gothicgizzmo Stick to your guns Gothic, you have immaculate taste. Refreshing and rewarding to hear a teenager who realises the truth. All the best from Bigmagic, Slade fan since 1971

    Long live The Mighty Slade!!

  • @bigmagic96 Thankyou, I would never change my taste. Slade are amazing x

  • @Gothicgizzmo I agree what you say. As my dad says: The good music was before your time. Im norwegian so my english sucks. But the music in the 60's to the 80's was the best music ever played. From the Nerd Of Norway P.S Im a boy/nerd.

  • oooh to remember the cassette player in the Hot holden, chrome wheels, arm out the window, and all the mates and SLADE. What a great era for mates and music.

  • He sounds like Roger Taylor and Rod Steward, or am I the only one? They all three the same voice

  • I'm only 46 but I love this!!

  • Fuckin love SLADE pity didn`t didn`t appreciate them asmuch in their heyday but they were fuckin brilliant.

  • Paul Mcuntney arrogent, rat faced shit stain

  • @graybermann Agreed!

  • I remember this track like it was yesterday. And the music I heard yesterday I don't remember at all.

  • Yeah, Noddy,Jim,Dave, Don!

  • Great band, sensational music, and an inspiration to anyone who has been hurt and are trying to get better, be it car accident or illness.

  • Why are you all bitchy about Paul? Who cares if he is a likable guy, his music is still awesome!

    Now something different: Slade rocks!!!

  • The most underated band of all time.Would love to see them make a comeback.

  • THIS BAND WERE SOMETHING ELSE,,PURE GENIUS

  • @robharding1957 YES SIR, PURE GENIUS, EXACTLY THE RIGHT WORDS!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR POST !!!

  • As a Slade fan at the time I remember this song as their swansong and it makes me feel incredibly sad to hear it

  • La virgen que grupazo

  • Only lived 50 miles away from newcastle never did see slade in flame but slade still sounds good thousand of miles away many years later .tim hou tex

  • good old days in 1975...

  • THIS MADE ME CRY

  • them sideburns are a fire hazzard

  • To me, their best song ever.

The call of home is loud.... still as loud.

  • @Kootje792 i cant say their best song ever cos they have so many top class hits its to hard to pick one track to be the best.p.s nice to here from people that apreciate slade rather than negative comments posted from retards

  • @douglasgh2 True, that's why I put it this way. To me, this is the best. But we all have our favourites.

I never see the point in slagging things off in comments. If you don't like? Go elsewhere! Happy holidays!

  • great band ,great song*****

  • @keg64 Noddy Holder ledgend will go down in history of pop rock and roll 1970s icons

  • Nod the God!!!!!!!!

  • Marvelous Slade.

    They really had something going.

    Great band.

    Magnifcent live band.

Nobody left a Slade concert not having a great time.

  • this came from not the best movie ever but the soundtrack one of the best from any movie from all time. JUST ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM FROM ONE OF THE WORLDS BEST BANDS.

  • @douglasgh2

Back in the 70'ties in Denmark you were Sweet or Slade fan - could not be both :o)

I was Sweet fan (even though it would have been more cool to be Slade fan as rest of my class)

But even though I am a Sweet Fan (since 1973) I would say that this is one of the best songs of Slade and I enjoy listining to it

  • @isgren8 i think slade are the best but sweet had some good hits too everybody to their own

  • @douglasgh2

That is right everybody to their own

I consider Slade more a Blue Color Band (exept Dave Hill, he would fit better in with the Sweet with all the glam and glitter) I also think that Slade had better managers etc behind them - Sweet was forced into something they were not by Chin and Chapman among others

  • Oh, lighten up! OK- I'll get my Slade fun elsewhere. Merry Christmas everybody!!! :D

  • @midmodgal Please do.

  • @midmodgal one of the best bands i ever saw 7 encores one night

  • @Blackcountry7777 Blimey, seven? Where was that? Great memories ....

Long live The Mighty Slade !!

  • if there are fools out there who are seriouse about noddys vocals being crap,,let me give you some sound advice,,go and learn some musical knowledge,,because what you know at the moment,,l wouldnt put on a fagpaper,,wake up you imbicileand get real

  • Ah! this one brings me back - memories of school dances and all that.

  • For those who think his vocals are shit: CUNT OFF.

  • man that crowd was wild

  • I love this song! Great intro! They always look like they're having such fun.

  • @SweetSheep Great song just another from FLAME .Lots more still to come

  • I love the chorus of this song and Noddy's voice (:

  • slade got you on your feet, also status quo, I know coz I was there. the rest of the bands were like watching simon and garfunkel

  • This is a great song, but not a great 'Slade song' if you see what I mean

  • @grantg60 Thats just daft, it is a Slade song and it is great, if you don't get that then you never will.

  • great track ! great band ! watch the feature film, slade in flame ! great

  • Best Slade song ever. Jim Lea is such a great writer. Everybody thinks of Noddy and Dave Hill when Slade are mentioned but JL was the ace musician of the band.

  • @boo66 Noddy co-wrote the songs. Noddy's singing was distinctive and a crucial part of the Slade sound. As Nod and Jim have often said take one band member away there would have been no Slade.

  • lol, Noddy's got Beethoven's hair and an Abraham Lincoln beard, dressed like Elvis Presley and sounding like a classic.

  • Is it just me that thinks 'Michael Caine' when I look at dear old Noddy, here? It is, isn't it.

  • Tuto a podobné skladby jsme za našeho mládí "lovili" na radiu Luxemburg....nostalgie, nádhera

  • Najpiękniejsza rockowa ballada.

  • "I've had a red light off the wrist without me even getting kissed", classic!

  • in spanish ,la banda las grane lamas ,, in german die grobte band aller zieten,, in french le plus grand groupe au monde ,, where i am just pure magic

  • @xcraig1961 your 1000% correct m8

  • Nice !! In the 70,s the music was really good!!

  • hah, my dad indoctrinated me in the music of the 60-80's can't say i would want my music any other way!

  • Noddy's digging the fact that as a rock-star he's been able to travel the world.

    Best Slade song period.

  • @midmodgal No he's actually saying that although he had travelled the world the call of HOME was just as loud and he couldn't wait to be there.

  • @Sladedestiny You don't think he enjoyed going to all these places? The extensive

touring obviously inspired this song. I don't wish to seem pedantic but there's nothing in this song to indicate that he was in a rush to get home.

  • @midmodgal Your not listening to the lyrics very well are you.Nor do you know much Slade history. The song was written when Nod looked out from a hotel balcony. He saw all the lights across the city. Yet as the lyric says 'But the call of home is loud, still as loud' Thats where he points out that although he was visiting different countries he still felt the pull of home. He has said often enough how the song came about. So please learn some before posting. It helps a lot.

  • to all who mentioned paul mcartney let me tell you he sucks. The most pompous arragonte bast**d you could meet. My father met him and he said he was the most horribl man he had ever spoken to

  • @derek6678421 Yep and an ignorant git to boot. Listen to Beatles songs and you can see which were written by John and those of Pauls. In fact few of the songs were really written together but they had a management agreement to put out songs as Lennon/Macartney.A few years back Paul did a live album were he relisted the songs as being Macartney and Lennon. Egotistical bastard.

  • @derek6678421 Agreed Sir, Sir Paul is a very cocky horrible man. Unfortunately there are too many Sir Paul 'conformists' in this world influenced by the media. In fact, his solo albums after the Beatles split up are onedimensional and he has not evolved. Slade have continuously evolved to new styles and sounds and created the most real tunes. Slade have reached the highest calibre of songwriting in the 80s, best UK band ever, more versatile than the Beatles. Influence is a different story.

  • @proslade They were opportunists always trying to seek pop(ularity) Singular cowards always jumping on other peoples bandwagons.

Why dont you jump on something you Pro(bable) QQQQQQQQQQQQQUUUUEER

  • @teddingdonkey didn t you say yerself that Slade had "authenticity"??? Whose bandwagon did they jump on??? Don t all these artists now and in the past jump on other people s bandwagons??? More acts need to thank these "idiots" than the other way around. Ask Noel Gallagher, Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, David Bowie, Brian May, etc. Why didn t you do it yourself and sell 60 Mio records fuckin muppet loser without a real life. That is why you are still here at 51 tossing and trolling. You wanker.

  • @derek6678421 maybe your dad caught Paul on a bad day, mate. We all have them - even former Beatles.

  • @Greenthigh I am reading more posts with the same contents, I am afraid Sir Paul had many many bad days, unfortunately. I admit I would also become as arrogant and thick if I was sort of overrated and overhyped as he has been. After his beatles episode, has he really progressed or diversified? Nah.....

  • @proslade agreed. His solo career has been an absolute disaster.

  • @derek6678421 YEah, years back when my husband and I were discussing our son's Baptism dinner plan, the chef/ owner of the restaurant told me he met Paul and said the same thing about him!!!

  • @derek6678421 I totaly agree. See his interviews with letterman and/or his response to John Lennon's death. He is difinatelly an AH. It's a shame, because I used to be a big Beatles fan untill i knew paul a little more.

  • Let's not minimize Dave Hill's guitar talents and costuming skills.........just a great band who should have been bigger, here in the US, for sure!

    They always make me smile...........

    Steve

  • Loved Slade as a ten year old England; still love them as a 50 year old in the US - Noddy rules!

  • @da1961ja

    ok man

    i am 55 years old
