  • To anyone takin trash about a probe gt...Yes, its no mustang, it has only 164 horse in a v6...KLZE swap is 200..but it is sooooo fun, safe, reliable, rides good, cheap, handles awesome, decently quick, looks cool... ummm... what more could u want in a car? I may get another one...Even after ive owned a 600 horse talon tsi... theres just somethin about it..

  • @teun3sixty american enginering.. maybe, but the engine is from mazda, its a 2.5L KL-DE..only a ford valve cover on it. i had this engine in a lighter mazda mx-3... i whooped some ass with it.. its not the most powerfull thing in the world.. but for the price.. quite acceptable > but supra is the total sex (1993+), i can't disagree on that

    Wow, is it just me...Or do the plus points REALLY outweigh the nitpicky negative points. That's exactly what I want in a sports coupe; Looks, power, handling. Love the GT.

  • I bought one today for $1400...A GTV6 5Spd with a whopping 68,000 miles on the clock. One owner and woman owned. Only things wrong are that it needs a new battery, tires are dry-rotted, the upper radiator hose is brittle and the steering wheel is cocked a little to the side. It was sitting for a year or so but started right up. Question for Probe 5Spd owners; The clutch releases a little low for my taste, is it self adusting or can I do something about it? I pick it up tomorrow morning. Paid for

  • Haha they complain about the torque steer with 160 ft/lbs. I can only imagine how these guys would feel driving a modern performance FWD with 260 to 300 hp from the factory.

  • @dsmluck How bad is torque steer in a 2011 FWD car with 260+ horsepower because it is bad in the Probe these Probe GTs. It was even worse in my Integra. One time my steering wheel jumped right out of my hands. My 97 SHO basically has not torque steer that I've ever experienced. It's not so bad in my 92 SHO either.

  • @MTXSHO9732vV8SHO My 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 is nearly fully bolted running methanol injection and 40% E85. I will admit the torque steer can surprise me at times but I am likely putting down 325+ ftlbs of torque. Its still very manageable.

  • @dsmluck "Technology" moves on... These cars are basically 20 years old now. We can say with some confidence that Mazda/Ford wasn't overly concerned with people driving these cars hard most of the time. If they had been more concerned with performance chances are that the drive shafts would be equal length, they aren't.

    The Probe GT is just a little sports coupe that you can probably take up to 230 hp and not worry about reliability issues. It was never meant to be a Porsche. It's a Ford/Mazda.

  • I'm a 19 year old with the same model and colored car as shown in the video. I like the Probe and think its served me well. I've had the car for about 2 years now and it's ran very smoothly, not to mention its good on gas. I love the shift action and I think the pop up headlights are unique. IT doesn't handle very well in snowy weather which can be a pain living in Wisconsin.

  • I had a used 94 probe GT with a sunroof my mom had got for me as my first car in high school that car lasted me 6 more years and didn't give me any major problems whoever had the car before me must have taking great care of it because it still looked new I loved that car I miss it

    Car flat out hauls, super punchy High output V6, Pulls strong and hard in all 5 gears.

    Raced against my buddies stock 84 Mustang 302 GT and he only won by 2 car lengths !

  • I can't understand why my mechanic is beefing so hard about the timing belt on my 95 GT. I just cross referenced the belt with the one from the '98 Mazda 626 v6. Same belt! This v6 was used in several cars, I wonder why everyone is saying the timing belt is so hard to frickin' come by.

  • The guy I have recruited is a mechanic for the Police Dept here. The community service cars are mid/late 90's v6 Contours (same engine). He's worked on a lot of them. I was at the Junkyard today looking at Mazda 626's v6 (same engine) and they all appear to be laid out just the same... I think my mechanic is being too anal. Peace.

  • Well, it's a done deal now. I found someone else to do it. Took them about 5 hours to do. I saw those oil cooler lines going bad too, got that crap, all the belts, tensioners, water pump etc etc replaced! My SHOs have been parked ever since I bought this car! Woohoo!

  • If it were an Integra people would be climbing all over one another to get their greasy paws on it if your car is as good as you say it is (I don't doubt that it is). It has been a long time since Sport Compact Car was singing this car's praise when it first came out. In this class, Honda/Acura is KING (deserved). Only the 240sx get as much notoriety as Integras/CRXs/Civics. Then again, were talking about selling cars to teenagers that don't really know shit or have enough balls to be different.

I made a mistake. Do you work for Holman and Moody or something? Shit! I know WTF I'm doing. My v6 SHO and my v8 SHO run just as good as my Probe GT. Any other smart remarks you got for me?

  • The first gen GT turbos were faster than the second gen GT V6 cars. First gen turbo cars were almost as fast as V8 GT Mustangs in the 1/4 mile. Ford could have made this a world class car, but company politics killed it off.

    Hey why is it that These Probes get no Respect any more ? Probe GTs and Mustang GTs had the same showroom floor stickprice brand new.

    Yet, the Used Mustangs re sale value same year, condition , Mileage as a Probe is so much Higher , the Stang brings in 4 x the Price !

    Good cond. Probe GTs on Ebay are only bringin in around $ 1,200 on avg. While Mustang GTs same year etc. are bringin in $ 5,000 routinely, sometimes alot more !

    and of course you got bumped up from that wimpy pathetic 2.0 Inline 4 for the SE, to the Ultra high revving pavement pounding monster 2.5 DOHC 24 valve V6 powerhouse !!!!!!

    The Probe GT was without a doubt the Most underated Sports Car in Auto history

  • what many people dont realize is, it all depends on which Probe you are talking about.

    Lets be Honest the base SE model was a Joke, a feminine pussys car that was very weak, economical and unreliable.

    However, if you Opted for the Legendary GT Option, it transformed this car into a bona fide High Performance Jr. Muscle Car of world class Standards.

    Just like with the Mustang compared with the mustang GT,  we are talking about 2 entirely different cars !

  • i have a problem with my 1993 probe gt and was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong ill explain best i can, on hot days the car will run fine but then rpm will drop sometimes 3seconds it will jolt back up but sometimes need to pull to side and start up again and will randomly do this, it has drop from 5rpm to 0 and jolted back up 3 secs later my resaerch is telling me its the distributer but not to smart with cars, anyone help please

BUT the probe is the ONLY exception in my opinion. it uses mazda's KL layout V6 (2.5l KLDE) matched with the JDM KLZE. the probe is a pretty reliable car.. seeing as how if you need to have it repaired... all you have to do is take it to a MAZDA dealer instead of a ford dealer for stock parts. plus... they are pretty quick on the drag strip.

  • I don't know if I would call them a muscle car, but I agree 100% that they are one of the most under rated sports cars of all time. They are great stock, but have awesome potential when modded. I've yet to find a car that's more fun to drive then a PGT, and I've driven quite a few.

  • The Probe SE had a very weak small anemic Inline 4cyl Motor. Motor was a Joke, broke down alot, and had no zip.

    but if you Opted for the GT, you got a Fire Breathing , Pavement Pounding 2.5 Liter 24 valve DOHC Muscular V6 !

    You also got the Much wider Lower Profile Racing Goodyear Tires, Bigger Wheels, Heavier Duty Suspension, wider wheel base, and Bigger body panels and more Muscular Look.

    the GT option back then transformed this car into a BEAST !

  • people put this little car down a lot, but have never driven one. i have the 94 probe gt. she has 170000 on it and it runs like new. it has some performence mods in her and will take any 6cly mustang. 1.8T golf, VR6 and civic. ford strong baby

  • I used to race these probe's with my 99' SVT Contour. They always put up a pretty good fight, I walked them including my brother's 95 Probe GT (5M). I always liked the looks of the Probe GT, nice little car.

  • i have a stock 94 GT and the car Hauls ass ! You gotta keep em maintained, i got a recently fresh full tune up and changed all the fluids and filters , new tires with balance and Alignment, and the car is a Rocket

    I can keep up with older BMW M3s and Sub wrx's, No joke a well maintained and fully serviced Stock Probe GT is that fast

  • BlackOpSource: I still own my 95 PGT that I bought new. Driven only for fun, it has barely 60K on the odometer. And, yes, under the right conditions, it can produce prodigious amounts of torque steer. Those conditions would be full/near full throttle from rest, high RPM's powering out of a curve, or a sudden unloading of the front wheels while hard on the gas. I still love this car; it handles really well. I upgraded the rear sway bar, put more aggressive brake pads/rotors on the front...

  • I want to know what the hell they're talking about with torque steer. The second-generation Probes all had equal-length CV axles, and thus, no torque steer.

  • I remember when we first got these over in Europe, the engine was 30bhp down on the BMW V6, 26bhp Down on VW's VR6......It just bummed and had really sorry styling too. It always makes me laugh when Americans try selling cars in Europe....They really do suck!.

  • i like my probe, it beats 5L's. but i HHAATTEE that its frount drive. any ruts in the road when ur accelerating n ur all over the place. the shifter is getting sloppy too. and any part is expencive as hell 2 get replaced. alternator cost 600$ 2 have swapped. stupid. i have aftermarket exhaust on it it sounds good when ur hard on the gas, i oftin wonder what it would sound like with a glasspak or something instead of the 4" ricer one i have. something more throaty.

  • Car and Driver measured the Probe Gt's 0-60 at 7.0. The stang GT's of about the same year were maybe .2 faster, when its that close it depends on the launch and driver more than anything.

  • With the GT as opposed to the wimpy Girlyman SE, you now had a Car with that aggressive rumble from the Exhaust, that when you hit the Accellerator, the front end lifted up, the Muscular V6 growled and you got Pushed back in your Seat Big time ! The probe GT a nice lil Musclecar sleeper that had it all ; ) Handling is so razor tight and Precise totally stock, that its ridiculous

  • wow......not very many imports had AWD, mostly it was subaru and DSM's. AWD with only 164hp wouldn't have put it anywhere near the other cars of its era. Really 164hp for a 2.5l 6cylinder isnt anything great.

With the much sought after and highly desirable GT Option, you got the Factory Body Kit and Ground effects, Wider and Lower profile Hi Po Tires, Stiffer Hi Performance Susp upgrade for better handling, and of course the Motor got Pushed up from the 2.0 4cyl, to the Amazing 2.5 DOHC 24v V6 powerhouse ! The GT option in 94 was truly worth every single cent as you now had a totally different car and a true High performance head turner

  • Thats your Opinion. FACT : You Cannot buy a better used Sports Car for the Price range, as far as Looks, Performance and Style , Gas Mileage etc, than the Probe GT . Its an Amazing Car that deserves a ton more respect than it gets. You have all these clueless teenage Punks running their mouths , and all they can say is WRX..WRX..WRX, Yet they know nothing about Cars ,they're like robots that just spit out all the crap they are Fed by friends, media and such.

  • Thats a very blatent statment, since it's really not a fact, again its your opinion. I wouldn't even really call the Probe GT a sports car, FWD doesnt exactly scream performance and handling.

  • Yes the car is FWD, but that doesnt change the Fact that the car is a super tight Handling and Quick performance Car. ive driven and owned Alot of different FWD cars through the years, and NONE of them are even close to the Punchy Performance and Razor Tight sure grip Handling of the Probe GT. Its a great combo for the $ ! there simply is no doubt about that. $ 2,500 gets you a Great cond V6 gt. its a much better bang for the buck than a $ 10,000 03- 04 WRX.

  • I agree..pepz dont wanna go..well who know me!...I have two 94 Gtz...I tell u they r the best car..defintily Underated & u can pick up a decent one for a low price..I have LIED & tell pepz Itz(heavily)modified..cuz I regulary smoke 5.0's.or w/e I've been comin across..lol...the only thing I did so far was cold air & an upgraded exhaust...there is also a Turbo availible...allot of nice custom parts out there..I would recomnebd 100%..add a few buckz...it cant be beat for price/style/performance

  • You are absolutely right. It's most definitely the most underrated car of all time. I have a '94 GT, and it still runs like it's brand new, and for the price you can get it for today, it has a surprising bit of performance, even stock.

  • i am a mapar person personally i have a 2500 2005 dodge ram crew cab 4wd with a hemi and its a five speed its not a race truck by anymeans but it will scratch 3rd gear with 33's but anyway i also have a 1993 probe gt 5spd and its got 180,000 abused miles on the stock motor and it still runs hard and will go 140 with 4 people in it i have alot of respect for this car for what its worth

  • When you Punch open a Probe GT, you MOVE NOW ! that 2.5l DOHC 24v V6 is super punchy powerhouse !! I have a guy in my area with a 2003 WRX and he literally fears me and wont take me on, My GT is 100% stock and i Eat WRX's for Breakfast ! WRX = Overated . the probe GT is the most underated sports car in American history

  • So a stock Probe GT (that runs 15.4-15.7 1/4miles) can beat a stock WRX (that runs mid 14's)? The WRX has more HP than you even.

  • WRX = 1 big massive Public relations scam. Sure the car is 'ok' , However it does NOT perform up to all the Massive Hype. For last 5 years all we heard was Wrx, the car was shoved in our Faces by all the Media ! well im sorry but the car simply doesnt live up to all the Hype it gets. Its that simple. Its time to give Other cars out there the respect they deserve such as the Probe GT !
