Maybe people just looked for an excuse to hate Ben Elton, and in reality he's just soooo creepy, slimy and off putting. When the 80's tinted goggles wore off people suddenly thought "Aw christ who is this weirdo and how do I get away from him and quickly file a restraining order?"
Some new comedians walked up to me once and they asked "What do you do if you get nervous on stage?", and so I put my arm around their shoulder, brought them in close and whispered "What you do is: imagine the audience is naked."
Then I spent the rest of the evening standing at the back killing myself laughing as every comedian after me got up on stage and got a hard on.
I imagine that British people watch this program to feel nostalgic, but as an American, I watch it to find new sitcoms to watch or comedians to look in to. I am definitely finding some of Coogan's work to watch now.
Why did you wince when you said Frank Skinner there Lee? Was it because they made you say Frank? Is it because Frank is worse than a runny shit down your trouser leg on your way to an important job interview?
@calumcoburn What on earth are you talking about? They had Peter Cook on it twice in this one and in Jessica's. They wouldn't do it that they were telling them what to say. Have you ever seen Frank Skinner's stand-up? He's a great comedian.
He's right about Ben Elton, although I'm not a huge fan of his stand up, one of the creators of Blackadder, possibly the funniest fucking show ever made. imo.
I have just found your wonderful site. Thankyou so much for uploading every single thing you have. It's all perfectly to my taste and such a godsend for someone who longs for these brilliant shows that aren't shown in Switzerland.
Lee Mack is brilliant, especially when playing off of David Mitchell.

See, if we only had tv shows like this in finland, people wouldn't have to kill themselves and others.

@Kan2209 Yeah, though I think the absence of comedy is less to blame than the presence of extremism...

I went to the recording of this, and Bill actually had an asthma attack after jumping down the step at the start first time! D:
But <3 Lee Mack, and some really interesting choices!
