don't usually like posts that don't show live video but this is easily 1 of the exceptions as it features the late great ex-QMS guitarist john cipollina's excellent playing & a very clever slide show of relevant late 60s-70s images. far out, as we used to say once upon a time!
im fortunate enough to have QMS 4 or five times and once saw john with copperhead, he lived not far from me before he died, he was a major influence on my git playin also rest in peace john
I didn't get to see 'them' (this isn't QSMS, it is John out-and-about) a hundred times. Saw QSMS just twice. Once for the Happy Trails period and once for Shady Grove (with Nicky). I was 'stuck' in San Antonio. I will NEVER forget the sound! Thank you aurora1957A for all of this Frisco psychedelia you put up on YT, my aurora happened in 1953, but we seem to have the same taste in music. Who are you?!?!? Where are you?!?! .. anyway, THANKS!
bought my 1st guitar in 1972 . I bought an SG because John played one. saw quicksilver play till 4:30 am fillmore west the night after Jimi Hendrizx died . Buddy Miles was 2nd bill and he also played his ass off . Sea train opened . listened to happy trails a 1000 times -still one of the most amazing blends of classical , jazz, rock , R&R , . psychedelia, with other worldly influences thrown in
John Cippolina was my favorite growing up in "the city" saw them about 100 times at least! From Golden Gate Park Speedway Meadows to Family Dog @ The Beach!, etc. Great Band!!!!!
Quicksilver & The Airplane were my two most favorite hometown bands from the get-go. Saw John C. sit in w/Man Band @ Savoy Tivoli on Upper Grant Ave. in SF (The City)back in 1972 I believe. Fondly Remembered and,I Hope his brother Mario (original bass-player for Huey Lewis @ The News)is doing well as I write this. Nicky Hopkins (borrowed from The Rolling Stones after "Let It Bleed" to play a couple o' few tunes on the "Shady Grove" album is the icing on this cake! :)
