@Hauarie Rich family meets yearly on an island, grandfather is very ill and will die soon, said grandfather summons and revives a witch who kills everyone, including the grandfather, in the cruelest ways possible. Battler, the one with the red hair, attempts to disprove that this happened and that witches caused the murders. Mindfucks ensure.

Massively oversimplified plot synopsis, yet still very accurate.

Be sure to watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni first, it's made by the same person as Umineko.

@shttykitty Yup, in fact Umineko is the same. You will have to wait till the release the ''Kai/Chiru'' version of Umineko to get the answer arcs. If you don't want to wait that long, you could get the Visual novels, they are worth playing.

If you liked Higurashi no naku koro ni you'd like this, and sometimes you just have to get through the seven sisters and there little outfits to reach the good story line parts

Visual Novel's story line was much better but then everyones heard that phrase ("Book betters then the movie")

MANY people also very much praise this anime- so please give it a taste test!

It seems like there are small links, but no real relation. The biggest link I've seen thus far is Lady Bernkastel. She appeared at the end of Higurashi Kai and at some point in Umineko she says you're silly for thinking she and Rika are the same person.

Have you seen Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni? You may want to watch it beforehand, since Kai (The second season) intorduces the entire idea behind this plot. Basically for thos who have, Fredrika (Furuude Rika, Lolz) the witch pays a visit to Beatrice, who decides to amuse her by trying to convince Battler that Magic and witches do exist.

there is a full translation available for umineko no naku koro ni chapters 1-4, which is the whole of umineko, chapter 5 was released this summer in japan (at comiket I think) so its still pretty early for that but anyway its the first "answer" chapter of umineko, just like higurashi had "Kai", umineko has "Chiru"
