I've recently become very interested mycology but most of the mycologists I've read about and watched lectures and such of seem to be batshit crazy hippies like Paul Stamets who claim mushrooms are 'intelligent' and give no well researched scientific evidence for such extraordinary claims. Are there lots of people like that at these kinds of events?

@TheEpisteme -Have you read any of Stamets' work? He doesn't think mushrooms are intelligent, but they do exhibit behavior that shows how they are sort of like nature's internet. He cites many studies in his books, about such experiments where two genera of tree exchanged nutrients underground via mycelium when one tree was shaded from the sun. Mycelium pretty much 'is' Mother Nature. Check out "Mycelium Running", by Paul Stamets. GREAT BOOK!!!

Anyway, the answer is No. Come see, it is a blast!

@Cyanescentinel I havent read any of his books or anything but I recently watched a lecture on youtube he gave were I believe he said that mushrooms are sentient and intelligent and alluded to them caring about their descendants and that evolution is an intelligent force. I was expecting him to start talking about a gaia earth mother spirit or something. He seems to have some very good ideas for solutions overlooked by chemists and engineers but the way he talks about some stuff sounds insane.

-voice over species names, even if not on the final track it's good for notes for later edits.

- use YouTube annotations to give specimen names on published clip.

- pause recording when waiting for people to move or going between tables.

Thanks for sharing this as it's an event I'd love to go to each year a made it to once in '98.
