His "Gomorrah" is actually layers of lake bed sediments of dust, aragonite, and gypsum flowing into Lake Lisan. If this is the real one, there is a deep portion of sea water before the first reef barrier as you notice at 8:51. They could have drown there.

And If they got into the middle of the reef barriers and then they saw large waves of sea water going back at them to the reef barriers they were standing at, they could possibly drown especially if they were in chariots and were alarmed and frightened they stupidly ran at any direction and drowned. lol.

Let me answer a question with a question...

What happens just before a sunami hits? The water pulls away and the levels drop rapidly and dramatically. What happens when the waves come back in? The normal level of water is nowhere near "normal" for a time, and then all returns to normal. I would suspect that some sort of similar phenomena happened on this day. Not forgetting that a "miracle" is simply defined as a wonder that is rarely seen and not fully understood.
