  • Great song, use to work with Chris' sister-in law back in the mid 70' in Spalding

  • Forgotten all about this one - a double A-side, effectively.

    Excellent posting, my friend.

White, Argent and White all made excellent records after the group split.

  • i don,t even remember hearing this song when it was released in 1976, what a great song.

  • A brilliant song beautifully constructed and sung , my favourite UK summer record. The step up to the chorus is 'killer' just summer pop perfection

    Nice one Chris.

  • Hah.... I spent ages looking for this in the firm belief it was the Beach Boys...! All the harmonising etc is way Beach Boys style... How it only got to 37 baffles me...

  • @teflonmike1 Snap - have just got here after putting it in as Beach Boys! The voice is smoother than Beach Boys though, but definitely sun and sea music

  • I had these hot Hit album one time. I don't remember what happen to them.

  • I remember them MFP hits albums anyone remeber the ones from Wollies Top of the Pops albums happy days

  • @weirclaret if you want to see the Top of the Pops LP sleeves watch my CCS Whole Lotta Love video !

  • Ha ha, Brings back memories of a slap across the head from a teacher for drawing a scene from the song on my maths note pad. Beautiful song and the slap never got it out of my mind. This song and All Night by Chris Rainbow were classic Summer Hits which will always bring me back to the wonderful hot summer days of the great 70's. Thanks for sharing!

  • First time I heard this song , I thought it was the Beach Boys! 35 years later it has remained one of my all time favourite songs & has become a timeless classic. I never get tired of listening to it.

  • Brilliant record that I still have and PLAY on vinyl.Only reached No 37!!!!!!!!! in Britain in1976.Should have been top 5 at least ! Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.

  • @Regor2010 Surely you mean classiness! :-) Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.

  • love this one. Sounds like a Brian Wilson track.

  • Do you have "I'm Into Something Good" from that album? It may have been a bonus track.

  • Chris is a BIG Beach Boys fan......and this is a stunning tribute to the best band ever

  • great song, and you nailed the pics to match the atmosphere of the song completely, cheers mate.

  • sounds like the beach boys... fantastic harmonies... honey to the ears... melting away listening to it....

  • This is one of those songs that makes me long for my teenage years.Simply wonderful song,so evocative.

  • @myasmate me too! even though I know I was full of angst about nothing, it doesn't seem like it ffrom this far off....

  • A beautiful song. The middle section - rather moving.

  • There's certain songs I remember that got a lot of Airplay on Metro Radio in Newcastle at the time. All classics - yet very few of them charted well. It's brilliant to hear them again - inc this one.

  • @steveoliver62 Ditto Capital Radio in London ... around Feb/March 1976 ... very Beach Boys-influenced!

  • Chris was just sublime on this one!

  • SO FANTASTIC, SIMPLY WONDERFUL.

  • great song.

  • almost like a brian wilson song,amazing

  • Great song. Simple and catchy. I only wish I'd written it.

  • california,i love you

  • finest love song ever with a nod to the king brian wilson

  • Great song this. Can't believe it only made number 37 on the uk chart.

  • I can - that's the UK charts for you!

  • This is the best record the beach boys never made - magic!

  • Sorry, but the best records the Beach Boys never made were the 3 fabulous albums by Chris Rainbow, who was a one-man Beach Boys in vocal, writing and production talent. One of his songs was a tribute to the

summer/beach/surf/girls/cars sound Brian perfected - Dear Brian. No greater homage has ever been paid to him than that.

Another contender for this accolade is the one album by American Spring; it was produced by Brian, and includes the greatest BW song they never recorded - Sweet Mountain.

  • very beach boys feel to this song?

  • Firstly, this is definitly not Chris White of the Zombies as I just asked him! (hes on a well known networking site), secondly, the spanish wine Chris White is definitely English as I happen to have known him personally but dont know where he is these days (hence the reason I asked the other Chris White!). There is a track on his album called Zombie Jamboree, this is maybe where the confusion is arising. HTH

  • Has a LA feel to it......never heard this one before..

  • A tremendous tune for sure! Lou Christie covered it in the '70s as well. However, this Chris White is NOT the Zombies bassist. The Spanish Wine Chris is American. And to confuse matters even more, there are still other Chris Whites recording out there, too! Just an FYI.

  • I knew this was a different Chris White to the Zombies one, but I thought he's English not American. I've got his album 'Mouth Music' and it's on the (British) Charisma label and despite the Beach Boys influence I think his vocals sound very English. Lovely song anyway!

  • This is Chris White the Zombies bassist. Anyway, great song and production.

  • Absolutely right - he's English. And of course, has never been a member of The Zombies.

  • got this on cd 'remember this in 1976' being driven home from school' in my teachers jag 'as i was ill 'envy of my mates' car was hot but she wasnt and i was only 10 at the time 'now im 43 . great year 'great songs.

  • heard this on radio 2 today.perfect song on a sunny day

  • Absolutely love this track (as a Beach Boys obsessive - this is like Dennis doin' a Brian)... beautiful stuff.

  • all i remember of this song is being sent home from school sick and hearing this , i was 8 and i'm 44 now and still love it

  • Just heard this on Radio 2, I thought it was the Beta Band or something! This should be re-released.

  • Should be re-released in April ahead of what will be the hottest summer ever!

  • Hi me again not sure why you picked the song but I too collected the Hot Hits series and of all of them number 2 stands out as there's great cover versions on it. Both Elton John & Tina Charles sang on that one

  • Have heard it 2 times on radio 2 this year nice song.

  • Was a big favourite on the radio turntables at the time. I never understood why it didn't do better on the charts. Never hear it now which is a shame. Great song.

  • Love it! I also remember buying this, in Mann's Music Shop Colchester (50p). Definitely a summer sound, although in UK it was released in February.

  • Great song!

  • Classic summer beach sound

  • Remember buying this all those years ago, great!

  • 5 stars straight to my favorites a true gem
