In a nutshell, the individual who is teaching in this video is a Master within his art. What you see is a segment of hand weaving, empty or with stick. As a Master who has trained with Sifu Jon his technique and his mastery is second to none. As a side note he was trained by Master Dan Inosanto.
I agree. Instead of wasting time on fancy moves there should be some sort of a reality test to see which techniques are just for cenimatic display and which one actually works. During the era of hand to hand and bayonet combat there were no videos. Maybe one day some soldiers in Iraq or any other place in the world can provide the internet with real weapons fight footage. It would be a shocker like how the UFC surprised the world.
I remeber seeing some kind of "prison fighting" guide. Ther were two technigues in that manual. First was stab with knife/shank and the other was hit with live hand. That's effective knife fighting: easy to teach and fast to learn!
But you won't be skilled after that kind of training. No sir, not even if you practised it decades.
Training usually should be progressive. And usually in sparring you can see what works for YOU. And common sense is very effective tool also! :)
I had an Iraq veteran come to my school the other day asking me to help him . he thoght the army training in mixed martail arts insted of knife fighting and kali was costing soldiers thier lives. it is just the wrong thing on the wrong battlefield,
best combo of styles ( at least i think so) Jeet Kun Do for everythin- Kali for weapons- Wing Chun for overall good technique- Karate for power- Judo for ground fighting- Wushu for acrobatics
