  • we watched this in my history class once

  • we learned about this is ss and had to watch this, the book/movie is based on the cold war between us and russia

  • Lol we had to watch this in social studies class

  • This completely blew my mind o_O. Wish I had some LSD for this.

  • Saddest book I've ever read. Btw, great work on the video. That really is something.

  • this video its fucking amazing. This vid really shakes your head!

  • This can now be related to a very difficult, recent battle going on. If we all work together, we can make both sides be at peace.

  • Sick

  • Still great! Cheers

  • Nationalist brainwashing and braindead followers. this video is great

  • anyone else see similarities with the cold war?

  • @Espion000 thats the point

  • Maynard wood b proud

  • Never thought I'd see Tool mixed with Dr. Suess, but I enjoyed this very much. I really want to see the full cartoon now, and just what Bakshi did with this.

  • Where did you find the actual cartoon i need it!!

  • zooks = soviets

    yooks = americans

  • Please could you upload the original Butter Battle Book animation - can't find it anywhere!

  • Its amazing how we look back on the Cold War and realize how stupid we as people were for not respecting the other sides' ideologies unless it was exactly the same as ours

  • This might be the best video I've encountered on Youtube. Great song by a great band, and most certainly a superb choice to mix with Suess's social allegory. Well done!

  • Where's the end?

  • @kw21093

This book ends in an open ended way.

  • What's the name of this song?

  • @bradydog22 Right in Two. The album is 10,000 Days, by Tool.

  • Thank you for adding this!. I -3 Dr. Seuss!!!

  • For no particular reason, I've thought about this book a few times over the past couple of years. Very poignant commentary on war... Good use of Tool mashup in this video.

  • My english teacher posted a link to this video in a powerpoint about allegory. Now everyone thinks she does acid.

  • @CincoDrums Good, I hope she does do acid. Actually I'd be willing to bet she linked to this video instead of the original a) so that you kids would theoretically like it, and b) because the original cartoon got taken down for copyright violation. But it's a great example of allegory.

Tell her I said thank you.

  • @Capitalocracy well, she posted a link to another video that was just pictures of each page with a computer voice reading out the entire thing. So the second reason is false. Either way though...

  • @Capitalocracy i hate youtube and all the copyright violation bullshit :( i miss dr seuss n id do anything to watch the original cartoons again

  • Perfect Video for this song!!! Blew my mind! A+ my friend!!!!

  • @eschaton222 thanks :)

  • lol the upside and the downside of that bread is the same!

the butter is on the same side anyway!

    dont fight about it!!

  • i really must say my favorite doc seuss character is the euch policeman he appears like such a weary soldier someone whose so tired of his job that he doesnt even know what he's fighting for by the end

  • @Semp314 Because he's got that damn politician whispering in his ear.

  • @IVSpod He looks so much like Kissinger, doesn't he?

  • @Capitalocracy agreed. If you've never seen Dr. Strangelove, I recommend it.

  • @IVSpod yes, I have, but now that you mentioned it, I've got a hankerin' to see it again. I'll have to see if I can find it. Great movie

  • This video deserves a million views.

  • this is beautiful yo

  • PLEASE UPLOAD THIS AS IS! :( no tool music!

  • This is amazin & I posted it on my myspace page too ...thank - you . It's cool too , as I had just told a friend before I found ur video . That the song reminds me of Dr Suess's butter battle book & Maynard is like a musical Ted Geisel at times ...very cool to find a like mind ...peace always

  • damn you, this video made me start crying

  • thank you, that's a huge compliment

  • @MultiValium I have no idea why, but when i read your comment i started weeping like a baby. Such a beautiful song i suppose...

  • Wow! I actually just read this book the other day and its now one of my favorites of Dr. Seuss's works. Very appropriate song choice. And actually, just heard this song for the first time a few minutes ago. Agh... so many things to say about this video, but only 500 characters makes it tough. Bottom line, great song, great story, and great video!

  • thanks, man

  • Bakshi was a brilliant animator, but he seemed to suffer from tone problems in a lot of his work. Even w/out the original words, this seems like it is too dark for the children it was intended for, just visually.

On the other hand, it reminds of a conversation I had w/ my children over vacation, where I was explaining to them why people hate invaders, and also about the pretending we do so we can feel good about ourselves. If we looked @ the world like 9 yr olds, this would be a better place.

  • well, it is literally a kids' book about the nuclear arms race and the concept of mutual destruction, so I think it wouldn't have done it much justice to try to lighten it up. I mean, the book describes the weapon at the end as a bomb that will blow all those dirty Zooks to smithereens.

If you don't have the book, go get it today. The cartoon is on youtube, Seuss described it as the most faithful adaptation of any of his books.
