Never thought I'd see Tool mixed with Dr. Suess, but I enjoyed this very much. I really want to see the full cartoon now, and just what Bakshi did with this.
Its amazing how we look back on the Cold War and realize how stupid we as people were for not respecting the other sides' ideologies unless it was exactly the same as ours
This might be the best video I've encountered on Youtube. Great song by a great band, and most certainly a superb choice to mix with Suess's social allegory. Well done!
For no particular reason, I've thought about this book a few times over the past couple of years. Very poignant commentary on war... Good use of Tool mashup in this video.
@CincoDrums Good, I hope she does do acid. Actually I'd be willing to bet she linked to this video instead of the original a) so that you kids would theoretically like it, and b) because the original cartoon got taken down for copyright violation. But it's a great example of allegory.
@Capitalocracy well, she posted a link to another video that was just pictures of each page with a computer voice reading out the entire thing. So the second reason is false. Either way though...
i really must say my favorite doc seuss character is the euch policeman he appears like such a weary soldier someone whose so tired of his job that he doesnt even know what he's fighting for by the end
This is amazin & I posted it on my myspace page too ...thank - you . It's cool too , as I had just told a friend before I found ur video . That the song reminds me of Dr Suess's butter battle book & Maynard is like a musical Ted Geisel at times ...very cool to find a like mind ...peace always
Wow! I actually just read this book the other day and its now one of my favorites of Dr. Seuss's works. Very appropriate song choice. And actually, just heard this song for the first time a few minutes ago. Agh... so many things to say about this video, but only 500 characters makes it tough. Bottom line, great song, great story, and great video!
Bakshi was a brilliant animator, but he seemed to suffer from tone problems in a lot of his work. Even w/out the original words, this seems like it is too dark for the children it was intended for, just visually.
On the other hand, it reminds of a conversation I had w/ my children over vacation, where I was explaining to them why people hate invaders, and also about the pretending we do so we can feel good about ourselves. If we looked @ the world like 9 yr olds, this would be a better place.
well, it is literally a kids' book about the nuclear arms race and the concept of mutual destruction, so I think it wouldn't have done it much justice to try to lighten it up. I mean, the book describes the weapon at the end as a bomb that will blow all those dirty Zooks to smithereens.
If you don't have the book, go get it today. The cartoon is on youtube, Seuss described it as the most faithful adaptation of any of his books.
we watched this in my history class once

This can now be related to a very difficult, recent battle going on. If we all work together, we can make both sides be at peace.
