@VeggieTrunks It did not feel great. Head pain was not extreme though. Heart rate was racing up and down setting off alarms. The catheter was probably the most unpleasant part!
@Regnet35 It is not a rocket science as it is not your brain which was drilled and cut.. You might not understand the extreme fear, anxiety , despair, doubts over operation success rate, doubts over life after the operation which come with the idea of a brain surgery. Be sensitive for others
What an amazing surgery, surgeon, and patient! I am SO happy everything worked out! Did they tell you if you have had that growing since birth? Also how many years were you having problem - probably from thinking back!
@bambis46 Thanks for your note. Yes, it was there since birth. I had what I thought were sinus headaches for about seven years before being diagnosed. You can read the whole story at my blog, link in the description.
@Snakezzz In this particular video? I'm not sure, but I believe you're just seeing the brain. The bottom of the hole he's working in is right behind my nose.
@cleve101 I don't mind at all. Yes, headaches for several years. The felt like sinus and similar to how some people describe cluster headaches. I didn't always have them, but when I did they could be on and off for weeks. No other symptoms that I noticed.
As I've mentioned the whole story is at the blog link in the description.
@mmdmdj Hey, You're going to be fine. Once you've talked with the neurosurgeon and got some questions answered I'm positive you feel better about the situation. That's how it was for me. Make sure to write down your questions in advance and get the doc to answer every one one of them. If you can, take someone with you who can take notes. My whole story is linked in the description if you're interested. And you can contact me through my site if you have any questions.
im a 17 year old interested in becoming a neurologist/neurosurgeon, and i have a few questions
upon reading your blog i understand this was a benign dermoid cyst
just wondering if you know
was this the only way to remove it?
it just seems like a process that is difficult because it is repetitive, tedious, and kinda sucky. i saw alot of forcep utilization that yielded little result. yenno just kind of... grab and pull, but only what was touched by the forcep was pulled out...
@ohaider101 These were some elite neurosurgeons in DC. They know what they're doing. In this video the cyst is already gone and he is finishing up by cauterizing some areas. The smaller cyst in the middle of my head (see other video) was removed endoscopically, no craniotomy required for that. Thanks for your note and well wishes.
@thinkfreerevolu My situation was pretty rare so they wanted to document it. I asked and they gave it to me on a disk. One surgeon was in his mid-50s, the other was much younger. See my blog for details.
really glad your better. the stuff they removed looked just like the stuff they squeeze from some skin cysts, interesting though it didnt seem to be attached anywhere just a blob of stuff. loved the way they flooded it with water in the begginning to float some stuff up and pick it out, wonder why they didnt do more of that further on?
@DictatorRoB I can't remember. ;) No, everything was cool. One of the docs thought I might have trouble for a few weeks, but the other doc didn't. That latter was right.
@IrishNickO Hey NickO, The only symptom I'm aware of was headaches. See the blog for details, but I kept thinking I had sinus headaches etc. Thanks for your comment.
I know I'm a minor and probably have no idea what I'm saying, but that was the coolest stuff I've seen in weeks... I hope your better! And thanks for posting these video's, it helped a lot.
It took 30 something years to get that big. It would've kept growing slowly, not sure if that would've been a problem. The smaller cyst, see the endoscopic video, was the real risk. Sudden death is possible with a colloid b/c it can block the flow of fluid, and your brain swells, then you drop.
i dont even want to imagine what was going through your mind at the time. oh wait. i can see what was going through your mind at the time lol. on a serious note, i couldnt imagine trying to do something like that. i'll stick to vehicles lol
That's a good surgeon. Cysts are just onery pieces of work..its sad that they exist in nature. Glad you are better, and were able to put music to the video. Stay well!
even my hands are shivering while click on this video, may God save all of us.hope you are good and enjoying your time:) stay healthy

@bluebig117 I lost my sense of smell for a day or two, and I had one seizure (in my sleep) about a year later. Other than those, no problems.
