Correct me if i'm wrong but if Kessel was here the whole season wouldn't he be on pace for more? Even if not, his points are HARDLY different from last year.
Theres no way you can say that Kessel needs a playmaking centre either. If you see most of his goals its just skate over the line and get the snipeshow started. Don't get me wrong, a playmaking centre would be a benefit but he is fine without one
@evh5150316 Except the opposing teams in the Olympics are a lot better than those he faces in the NHL, plus he gets less ice-time. I think most players score less in the Olympics than in the NHL.
This ANOTHER thing I don't understand when I hear announcers say it.
I've heard that he's DOUBLE TEAMED and TRIPLE TEAMED (sometimes).
Well...that means...if he's triple teamed....there are 4 OPEN Toronto players only being defended by 2 opposing players.
This isn't that hard to figure out. And I have yet to see Kessel be triple teamed...EVER. Never happens. In fact I've never seen ANY player get triple teamed.
Kessel isn't the second coming of Bobby Orr or Mario Lemiuex.
I have no choice but to watch him since that's pretty much all they play is Sauga.
I'm a Habs fan dude.
I think you're missing the part when I said: Kessel is going to be GREAT for the Leafs. He is a talented player.
Unfortunately, he has NOBODY feeding him the puck like a Savard, that's all.
But "You Leaf Fans" hear what you want to hear. I listent to the FAN and AM640, I hear you guys call in. You're passionate, I respect that. But when passion borders on stupidity...thats bad..
Unforunatley, I have to agree with the habs fan. Kessel is awesome with the leafs but he needs a good center if you want him to put up his Boston numbers +
He put up 36 in Boston.. right now he has 29 after missing over 10 games in the beginning of the season + training camp. I'm pretty sure he'll have no problem putting up his Boston numbers, although he does need a #1 centre if he wants a chance at 45-50 (which he is capable of).. Hopefully the guy is Bozak, it sure looks like it atm.
agreed. his strength is his positional sense in the offensive zone-he can take the puck and find space... unfortunately lately hes getting double-coverage with no1 else in the blue and white to take advantage of the mismatch... ne hate directed at him should be placed on burkie... too much hype when weakness around him makes him too easy to smother. he needs some1 to play with
i agree he can't dangle for shit he always tries to curve it to the inside like he does
succesfully on this goal but he fails constantly.
regardless the boy knows how to shoot.
and now with big PHANEUF lurking around kessel will have a lil more room to work and hopefully there'll be more moves to find someone to play with kess.
The reason Lucic is a more valuable player than Kessel is because there is NO ONE LIKE LUCIC. Nowhere in the league will you find a player who is as young as 21 years old, who is such a hard hitter, so tough, and strikes fear into the enemy like Lucic. He is one of if no the hardest hitters in the league along the boards and will fight anyone. There are plenty of young 30 goal scorers around the league like Kessel... Loui Eriksson, Pat Kane, Zach Parise, Jeff Carter. There is no one like Lucic
LOL LAUGHABLE LAUGHABLE. There is no one who can hit hard? Are you fucking kidding me? Show me Looch vs Belak, Looch vs laraque, looch vs brashear or lucic vs boogaard or even lucic vs orr? Exactly he isn't even a fucking top heavyweight. There are TONS of people who can check, are you kidding me? Check the AHL.
Lucic = 5 points 2 goals 3 assists.
Kessel = 10 goals, 5 assists after starting his season late with injury.
Kessel can WIN games BY HIMSELF, lucic can check, ig fucking deal.
a physical threat is important, sure. when a guy like Lucic is on the ice, members of the opposing team are going to be a little more tentative out of fear of getting run over. similarly, when a guy like Phil Kessel is on the ice, members of the opposing team are going to feel pretty uneasy about making even the slightest mistake because they know there's a guy out there who will almost doubtlessly capitalize. neither is "more valuable" than the other - any winning team is going to need both.
phil kessel is so fast and good with the puck and the way he tapes is stick is beast i do it like that all the time like that now makes it feel so much better with the grip of the tape =]
@ranndino hows sitting in the bottom of the conference working out for you? it must be nice for kessel to watch his former team rest in 3rd in the conference and 1st in their division
I wasn't talking shit. I was just stating objective truth. Kessel is a far better player than Lucic. And I know that everyone in Boston sucks Lucic's cock. That was part of my point, which you obviously missed.
It wasn't a stupid sentence at all. You just like to think that because you don't wanna face reality. Bruins scoring troubles can be directly traced to trading their best goal scorer. I predicted that this will happen at the time of the trade while most pundits thought that Marco Sturm was somehow gonna fill Phil's skates.
You can't compare the two. They have 2 completely different playing styles. I am by no means saying that Kessel isn't a talented player, but you can't say he is better than Lucic. You could say the same about how many defenseman in the league, just on the Leafs alone, Komisarek, Finger and Exelby are all big hitters, woop big deal. Checking doesn't make a big difference when it comes to putting up goals, which is what a winger is supposed to do, sure he's scrappy and makes you keep your head up, but he's NOT a top flight enforcer, so that diminishes his value IMMENSELY.

95TMLFAN 2 years ago
@95TMLFAN True but if you're not going to dangle than you need somebody feeding you the puck.
And Toronto doesn't have that guy yet.
Kessel had Savard in Boston. Nobody is even CLOSE to Savard on Toronto.
evh5150316 2 years ago
If he played the whole year then he'd be on pace to score 36 goals. Pretty sure he doesn't need Savard.
Fifa09Wii 1 year ago
LOL. On Pace? Yeah just like when Jiri Tlusty was on pace to score 160 goals after scoring 2 in his first game.
Or Fabian Brunnstrom was on pace to score 240 goals after getting a hat trick in his first game.
No doubt Kessel is a natural scorer and he will help the Leafs.
I never said he SUCKED ONCE. I just said he doesn't dangle or have superior stick handling skills.
Neither does Cammalleri on the Habs. He is a SHOOTER. But I'd put Cammer over Kess anyday of the week. :D

You know who has sick hands? Datsyuk. Y'know who has sick hands? Alex Kovalev. You know who has sick hands? Rick Nash.
Kessel uses a 70 flex stick which gives him a super quick release plus he is a GREAT shooter. BUT....
He can't deke anybody out. His move is trying to circle into the slot to snap off a shot.
You don't need amazing hands to do that.
I don't know why people don't like hearing the truth. Watch the games. He doesn't dangle.

I totally agree with you that they're totally different kinds of players. My point was that in terms of salary and whom to keep you can indeed compare them. The point was that as good as Lucic is at what he does overall he's a much less valuable player than Kessel simply because it is extremely difficult to find good, consistent goal scorers and the last time I checked the team that scores more goals wins the game.

Adding Kessel to a team immediately makes them dangerous whenever he is on the ice.
