  • Such an inspiring video.

  • A sharpened dowel rod- hm... I must sadly admit that I don´t have a clue what that is- but I´d love to know!

    Tina

    Your fan in Stockholm

  • @tisdagarmedtina It's just a wooden rod that I sharpened myself...you can find them in most hardware stores or lumber yards...

  • Before I recieved this answer- I went ahead and got those pans after all- but who can have too many? So- I´ll definately look into this Sugru you are so helpful to mention to me-

Grateful greetings from a rainy Stockholm

  • @tisdagarmedtina Glad to help!

  • WOW! A spray enamel- sounds magical- I´m just thinking if I shall invest in the Winsor & Newton Large Pans- 5 primary colors- but they will cost a penny or two... so I was wondering if I can make my own pans- from clay and maybe spray that enamel on top- hm- I´m so grateful to you, dear Cathy!!! Thanks for all the advice!!

  • @tisdagarmedtina I got it in the hardware store...very strong stuff. You could make pans with polymer clay or a new product called Sugru. You can google it...

  • I love to look at your videos while I´m working- keeps me company- I also tried painted the inside of my home-made watercolorboxes white to be able to mix colors in- BUT- the white loosened up... Hm- what kind of white color do you use? I used gesso and then acrylic white...

  • @tisdagarmedtina Thank you! I used a spray enamel, I think meant for appliances. It was STINKY, but it has stayed put...

  • Excellent video. Great music too! :)

  • What a most excellent video. Your roof line was inspiring. Thanks for posting it.

  • I'm just dazzled by the way you take an "ordinary" subject and make such charming paintings.

  • Your paintings are very beautifull. I feel inspired. I can't do much in the way of backgrounds and landscaping, considering the part of town I live in only has some random trees (I'm stuck in the suburbs, you might say ^_^0 ) But I am planning to take road trips to the mountains and stuff once I get my license, so this should be interresting. Thank you! =^-^=

  • @TriforceWarrior I'm glad you like the video! I love the mountains, I know you'll enjoy sketching there...

  • Your work in very inspiring and tempts me to get back into watercolor painting. :)Keep up the good work.

  • What town in Missouri did this take place?! :)

  • @52538584 It was near Excelsior Springs...

  • @KateJosTube Awesome! I live not too far from there!! :D

  • enjoyed the video, likewise have sketchbooks with grocery lists addresses and the like.will use the altoid box mysef as have been known to paint with coffee or soy sauce..keeping a travel watercolor brush in my purse.

  • @52cece Oh yeah...I had butter get all over everything in my purse!

  • Great video! I love Missouri and your beautiful art........and music!

  • Absolutely wonderful... I loved it. & the music was so great...

  • Thanks, Kathy -- very helpful for a newbie, and fun!

  • I enjoyed this and will look for more. Thanks.

p.s. The music is fine too.Who is it?

  • Thank you! They're listed at the end of the video, if I remember correctly, it IS neat stuff isn't it!

  • Love this, Kate. I've just spent the hour going through your videos, I mean classes, and have learnt so much. Excellent.

  • Thanks, Andrea, glad you enjoyed them!

  • I like the music too, but it's hard to find some that's copyright free unless you buy it. That, I found, is probably out of my range. Catch-22!

  • Love this! Definitely like them better with music Cathy. ;o) Besides, those who are watching late at night can easily turn the volume off.

  • AWESOME! Love the Altoid tin. Great idea! Thanks for the great tips! Keep inspiring!

  • glad to help!

  • I have rewatched this wonderful video and paused very very many times, to really study and now to retain what was so delightfully shared by you ---winna

  • I really like the pause option, Winna...puts the viewer in control!

  • Very nicely done! I like your books too. I have done a few painting videos but am definitely in the learning stage!

  • I hope the videos and such help...but you know, we're ALL in the learning stage...keeps it interesting.

  • I meant that I am in the learning stage of creating watercolor videos, not watercolor painting. Although I will always be learning there too.

  • Oh, sorry! I misunderstood...yes, I'm still learning that, TOO.

  • And by the way, you do a marvelous job, I think. I've subscribed to your videos!

  • Thanks! I think that the addition of music to your Backroads video makes a huge difference. (I watched the other ones too and kept checking to see if my sound wasn't working.) I really like the music you chose. I wonder if they'd let me use it to!

  • Funny, I had so many people tell me they preferred NOT to have music (it was distracting, they watched videos late at night and didn't want to disturb anyone, etc.) that I just leave the music off now. I like it too, on this one, and thank you!

I favorited your video and it showed up on my Facebook, so I made sure people knew your name!

  • Loved it but did not have time to read or digest what I'd read--will have to try pause

  • Pause definitely works! That's one reason I like the slide show format.

  • Beautiful video and the music was just as lovely. You have a great gift in painting. Thank you for shaing.

  • Thank you very much! I'm so glad you like it...

  • Loved this! My only complaint is that it went too fast for reading and looking at the individual paintings in progress. Not that I can't hit pause over and over--hehe!

  • Yes, I'm trying to figure out how long to leave up captions and such...thanks! And that's one thing I love about this format, you CAN hit pause!

  • I've long been a fan of your inspiring work and have several of your books. Finding your videos and artwork on YouTube was purely by accident. It adds another dimension to your instruction. Love the use of the dowel and/or sharpened end of the paintbrush. I will also use the "Altoids" tin idea for my plein air kit. I'm so glad you decided to try video! The Irish part of me loves your choice of background music!

  • Thank you, Cheri! Glad you enjoyed them. The longer slide shows on my CDs seem to have really found an audience, too!

  • WOW! I just stumbled upon you Cathy. How wonderful! I am getting ready to be doing my own video's too. I just joined YouTube to get ready.

This is lovely and inspiring. I have added it to my Playlist.

    Hugs,

    Sheri Gaynor

  • ooops, I hit the -1 by mistake, siiigh! Thank you for the kind words, Sheri, be sure to let me know when you've added yours!

  • Beautiful painting. :)

  • thank you very much!

  • This is awesomely beautiful work. Just lovely.

  • Thank you both!

  • Hahahahahaha! Thanks, that was funny!

  • Kate this is so inspiring! Nice job! I've been playing around with video taping myself, this looks like another great way to get ideas across. ps. love the music-Irish girl that I am!

  • I love it too, Mary! Really glad I found it, I'd never heard of Celtic Shores before, but I plan to now!

And thank you. I really hope I can figure out the codec situation with the videos soon...

  • Excellent ....great tips and ideas...nice music..lovely art work...doesn't get much better!

  • Actual video would be cool, Louise, but I tried downloading the necessary codec and it still doesn't work!

  • I like the dowel tip! Great job!

  • Thanks--I hope you enjoy using the dowel!
