i used to be in love with this song and this guy....but to say more accurately how it is replace the words "used to be" to "am still and will always be".
~this is exactly how i felt i couldnt say it better if it came from my own mouth ..sure im not alone..i grew up in the best generation and didnt even relize it ...fuck i wanna relive the '90s
I was a teenager in the 90s and that's why the music is special to me. Just like when 2020 rolls around and the early 20 year olds now are 30 then they will /love 2000's music and call the future current music crap. Happens. Every. Generation.
duncan sheik just died today... hes no longer barely breathing. no longer needs air, dont know where im going on from here, and I could lay here praying oooo for another day. and everyone keeps asking where did duncan go? used to think i was invincible, now i have my doubts
To all those on here saying that today's music is shit compared to the previous decades, I concur. I was never really that into 90's alternative and I would still pick this music over the current shit floating out there.
90's music nostalgia is so silly... the most important musical developments of the 90's were the advent of overrated grunge rock, the birth of crappy modern pop music (ex. Britney Spears), the end of old school hip hop, the dawn of electronic dance music, and that's why most pop, hard rock, gangsta rap, and techno/dance music is so bad now.
@rymcmanus Try to name someone as bad as what they have now days from the 90's Its impossible nothing can come close to horrors we have to deal with now days. I used to actually like to listen to the radio up until about the end of 08 when it really all went to shit. Now I dont even listen to kiss fm or b96 at all any more I cant stand it.
I wish I was born at the right time so that my friends would like music like this, too. Instead, I get, "DUBSTEP? I LOVE THAT BAND!" or "Skrillex? I love that genre!"
Hey everyone, we have to listen to people who are high quality music and give them recognition. Van Der Graaf Generator is a great band that I just found. I love them! We need to get music on a higher level. I want to up my level of production and make my music as close to these people as possible. Right now I am not on their level, maybe I can get their band on my records. We need to have higher standards in music so do I.
Hearing this now, the intervening 15 years melt away like water ice dropped on a hot sidewalk. I'm no younger but the memories are as fresh as though it were yesterday.
I love this song and its awesome video. Its awesome that he got so emotionally honest in this vid. A guy like this is SO MUCH better than all those aggressive, muscular jock guys out there!
And I love the one-hit wonders of the 90s. Music was so much better in the 90s, but it was over by the time I was 10! Even though its retro now, I'm in love with the 90s culture!

I was in elementary school when this came out! My older sister (who was 15 at the time) would always play Z100 (we're from NYC) in her room and for some strange reason, this song really stands out the most to me when I think of this memory...Very nostalgic.

Im a 21 year old singer songwriter who recently dropped out of college to come home to help my mom after she lost her job. I put all my emotion into my music and self produce my own song. @xraycat30 you really think that music has suddenly gotten worse in the last couple of years? I'm not trying to defend today's popular music, but that's quite shortsighted if you ask me. I mean, it's one thing for someone to post that on, say, a Beatles video or something, but come on...
@rymcm I know it's difficult for someone your age to understand because you have no reference point to start from where the pop charts were different from what they are now. In the 90s, a number of inventive and personal music styles were emerging in the mainstream that were good including indie and folk rockers/ska/grunge/R&B and others.Look at the top 10 today and it's ALL generic, impersonal, corporate garbage designed to make money and nothing else. It all went to hell and stayed there in 98
@xraycat30 I know it's difficult for someone so inclined to condescend others to understand... but indie and folk really picked up the 2000's, and the rest you mentioned are hardly a claim to fame. I lived through the 90's by the way. Grunge was ok at first but it's responsible for all the horrible generic hard rock we have now. Look at the top 10 in the 90's and it's the exact same thing (unless you think boy bands are any better than Justin Bieber), buddy. Selective memory much?
@rymcmanus We're talking about mainstream music charts here and there is a definite difference in terms of quality and sincerity between now and the mid-90s. You were a small child in the 90s and as such do not have a reasonable understanding the popular culture of the times. Children don't understand that. At your age, you think you understand everything and that's common. The boy bands you mentioned were the beginning of the end that lasts today and that started in the late 90s as I said
@xraycat30 Yeah, because Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, and the Macarena are top quality music, amirite? Children? Come off it. If you're gonna pontificate about the musical glory of days past, at least make it the 70's or the 80's at worst. Rambling about age just makes you seem pseudo-geriatric and doesn't give you credibility. As I've said, the 90's were the beginning of teen pop, and the end for rock and hip hop. Give some examples if you disagree, Mr. I-alone-understand-pop-culture.
@rymcmanus I never said the 90s were a golden age of music. That probably hasn't happened in mainstream music since the pre-disco 70s. You're 20 born in 91 or 92? So you were about 8 when the 90s ended. That makes you a child at that time. Damn, you're paranoid. 90s like the 80s had a mix of good/bad artists. Now it's all bad. Rihanna, Katy, Jay-Z, LMFAO, Kanye, Kesha, all of it...is shit. Adele and Mars are about the best that's out in mainstream and they're just mediocre pop stars. ..continued
@rymcmanus Now, in the 90s...Springsteen, Chapman, REM, Nirvana, McLachlan, Merchant, Sheik, Pearl Jam, Cohn, Joel, Adams...these are just a handful of the type of acts that were popular in the mainstream back then. Sure, you had garbage then too...but at least there was decent music written from the heart to accompany it. Now, it's just awful music over and over and over again every single week. That's the difference. It's not that the 90s were great...but today is so much worse.
@mtzxple Well...I think there was bad music then too...but at least there was always good music in the mainstream as well. Hell...the end of music seemed to have coincided with the arrival of the Spice Girls.
@rymcmanus 90's were the end of hip hop? Have you been living under a rock for 20 years? Have you ever heard of biggie tupac tlc usher? I don't even consider 80's hip-hop to be hip-hop maybe classic hip hop. And how could you even compare the 90's to music now days?
@rymcmanus I was never into the boy bands but they sound 1000 times better than the crap they have on the radio now days, I cant even listen to the old hit music stations anymore.
@SONIC29210 Absolutely. This brilliant artist has been releasing a new record every 2 or so years including a couple of double-disc "best-of's". His albums maintain a solid consistent yet original and sincere sound. His latest album of new material was a concept album called, "Whisper House". It is easily one of his best works to date. But of course, the modern mainstream music scene ignores him.
@xraycat30 Not really, you can find something good in every decade, but you usually have to look for it, I like alot of the 60's, but also a fair amount after that decade.
Hi, I am Marisa. I love music.I am an very artistic person who was born with some natural talent in singing and writing. Let me know what you think of my personal site. Please let me know if you thnk that he is better than I am vocally etc...Or if you think that I am superior vocally and creatively, let me know. If you think we are equals, let me know! I value your opinion. I have photos, and you can also let me know if you like my image or if you prefer famous people's images.
Cuz I just started beating, after I shaved the hair. Well lubed after spitting....I feel no need to share. And I could stand here wanking...my tool every fuckin' day!
This song takes me back. 1997, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Magic 95 (radio station) played this song all the time. Damn. I miss the good old days when music made you FEEL GOOD.
Used to have such a crush on him. Saw him in concert several times. At one I was able to watch with my arms resting on the stage. Tried grabbing the set list but he looked at me and I backed off. He's such a nice guy that, in hindsight, I think we would have let me keep it.
@fmallis lol, aww, I wouldve been embarrassed ! I used to have the biggest crush on Duncan too, from the time I was about 14 to 18/19...he'll always have a special place in my heart. such a poetic soul and an amazing songwriter/musician
@Jsd8675 heheeh .. well it beats ur shit name mr. r2d2 heheh.. the gay robot .. ur parents must b proud of u heheheheh...and have fun listening 2 that shit gay shit song ..hehehe it suedes u fine heheh...and rember 2 where ur mother dress when u listen 2 it hehehehehe.....
The 90's are the new 80's for this generation. It's crazy to have people younger than me,(I'm only 26 by the way) that have no idea who some of these great 90's artists are.
This song will always make me think of a relationship I once has that took everything out of me, and I didn't realize until it was over how much I put into it.
@jd99germania ironically, i heard this song around the same time my ex was leaving me, but then she would come back and then leave again. it was almost just like this song! i hope you're doing better nowadays.
Do you know he wrote The Broadway show Spring Awakening. This song was voted one of the top 40 one-hit wonders of the 90's on VH-1. If you ever get the chance to see that. do! Lots of great songs, especially of you like this one
@gregnotes Oh man, I said the same things too. I remember we had a disco dance at my elementary school back in the day. Know everyone raves about the 80's, it is funny.
Nah 90's. They had the widest range of successful genres. Anywhere from rap to country, they were arguably the best of their time. The only era that the 70's beats 90's is Rock in general. Even then the 90's had great alternative music and hell even their own rock genre in Grunge, which if Cobain (Nirvana) and Layne (AIC) didnt die would have continued well in the 2000's. Whatever era you choose, I think we are all in agreement.... 2000's suck ass.
@willsmackyoudown You're confirming my 20 year cycle theory, all the kids are discovering 90's music, it's coming back. My guitar students love it, although I agree the 70's had better Rock, as well as the 60's.
Oh. My. God. They used to play this on my local radio station ALL THE TIME in the 90s. Blast from the past. I still can't believe that this guy was a songwriter on Spring Awakening though.
You can't listen to this song without feeling a sense of nostalgia for that moment in your life when you were feeling exactly this sensation. I can close my eyes and almost loose my breath in the memory of a moment in time, a moment when I could feel the tears stinging my eyes, a moment when I was barely breathing.
So let me tell you about a story you will never read but I'll tell anyways. I was on a bus one day cry my heart out for a guy who didn't care for me. I literally cried myself to sleep. I was listening to music from the radio on my phone but what ever I accidentally dialed led me to this song which was exactly about what I was going through. This song still touches my song and I was able to get over that guy who didn't give a shit about me. I miss the 90's.
I was seriously wondering if there was ONE damn video on Youtube with ZERO Dislikes, and i swear I thought this song may be it!! How can any sane individual born after 1980 NOT LIKE THIS TRACK
The first time I heard this song I thought that it had a unique and awesome sound. I haven't heard it in a while and it still sounds fresh and new to me. Great song that I never grow tired of listening to.
God, I heard this song about a year ago and I couldn't for the life of me ever remember who it was, what the song was called, or even the decade it was. Man it was haunting me so bad that I couldn't remember this song. And look at this! I stumbled upon it! Yes!
I was born in the mid 90's(96 to be specific) and i feel left out because i didn't experience all the great music in the early 90's. But I love old music from the 90's, 80's and so on. I need a damn time machine -____-
@B0eing1992 ikr same here i was writeing down like all the bands i remember just too look them up and get there songs on my mp3 player. :) vh1 is the best way to find music u havent heard in forever. im 16 n i grew up listening to 90's music its what my mom playd me to get to sleep. :)

to young. I appreciate them now though.

The 90's are the new 80's for this generation. It's crazy to have people younger than me,(I'm only 26 by the way) that have no idea who some of these great 90's artists are.

Do you know he wrote The Broadway show Spring Awakening. This song was voted one of the top 40 one-hit wonders of the 90's on VH-1. If you ever get the chance to see that. do! Lots of great songs, especially of you like this one

In the 90's they said the 70's were the best lol, it all goes in cycles of generations. good music is good music.
gregnotes 3 months ago 79
@gregnotes Oh man, I said the same things too. I remember we had a disco dance at my elementary school back in the day. Know everyone raves about the 80's, it is funny.
starletdempsy 3 months ago
@gregnotes Except for 99% of today's music, Rap for instance is not music, it's noise with some fast talking in the background.
188043 3 months ago 2
@gregnotes I still think the 70's was the best, when you take into account the number of brilliant albums/songs released.
Stefandurrr 3 months ago
@gregnotes
2000's suck ass.
willsmackyoudown 2 months ago
@willsmackyoudown You're confirming my 20 year cycle theory, all the kids are discovering 90's music, it's coming back. My guitar students love it, although I agree the 70's had better Rock, as well as the 60's.
gregnotes 1 month ago
@gregnotes Hey, I also think of times in a 20 year cycle also.
