LISTEN!!! All PS3s play PS1 games(even slims) because the PS1 emulation is software based and was easily put onto the PS3's CPU emulator. No its because the CELL BE(brodband engine) in the 20 & 60 have a 90 nm(nano-meter) fan, the 40GB, 80GB(both models), and 160GB have 60nm fans, and the slims have 45nm fans.

And just to a bit of info, the 80GB(4 USB) used a prototype software emulation for PS2 games, but it didn't work well because the PS2 games had to be emulated by a dev that is still around and about 10%-20% of the PS2 devs are out of business and/or weren't intrested. It was also expensive to program the Cell to operate PS2 emulation with out its own PS2 emulator built on. And this caused stress on the 80GB models increasing its failure rate giving it the highest failure rate of 10.6%.

i think you are spredding around the wrong information. there are two models of the 80 gb ps3, the old one and the new one, the old one runs ps2 games and ps1 games, but not all of them, the NEW ps3, the one currently being marketed DOES NOT play ps2 games and ps1 games, the only ones that will run ps2 games are: OLD 80gb, 20gb, and 60gb.
