his speech is written quite well, very well connected, good points. He sacrificed recent examples with ones more well known and with strong impact, which worked well with his style, but I still believe he could have had more recent stuff to engage us. The only other problem I have with this oration is that there were times when he over-exaggerated his hand gestures unnecessarily. Don't get me wrong, he can use wide gestures, but he should use them less. Overall, still pretty good.
Yea man, I'm a 7th generation Texan, but the American takeover of Texas is something I am not proud of. It's unfortunate my existence has been dependent on some greedy Americans.
ah! i assumed this was NFL semifinalist, which after watching your speech made no sense whatsoever. NCFCA semifinalist however, does make sense. congratulations.
I didn't find it to be of national rank. Most oratory's that make win nationals are humorous and entertaining, where this speech was not. Overall, well written, too many ineffective gestures, boring, and average topic.
@ryanbranom I really liked the speech, but I think more than the speech itself his presentation was great. If anything his presentation of the speech itself could have taken him to win state.

@Trevor5888 you can't read the speech you wrote in competition, or it's a DQ.

I don't think they should necessarily have to be funny, though. Humorous elements help, but that isn't where the judging should end.

I agree. Heroism may not be seen very regularly, but it is a pretty plain idea.
Importance of courageous action? Does he really need to say this?
I don't think it's even state winner worthy. It's good, but not stellar.

That's more sos. OO's are ment to be serious and express a unique idea in a clear way. His speech does a good job at accomplishing this.
