i remember running around my house looking for a blank vhs tape when i was flipping through the channels and realizing wayne was going to be performing when this was originally broadcast. awesome to see it up on the tube!
Awesome all star line-up. Was I the only person to buy Wayne's Joy Ryder album? I always liked this tune, although I almost always prefer Shorter performing in smaller group situations. The horns just don't do it for me here.
No, it's from 1997. This was on a program on ABC titled "Nissan Presents: The 2nd Annual Celebration of America's Music", hosted by Bill Cosby. The event raised money for the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
Terri Lyne Carrington on drums is a BEAST!

After hearing Brian Blade's playing on this song with WS, I just can't get down with Carrington's playing, although she's amazing.

worst intonation ever!! Tune that shit trumpets
trane1959 4 years ago
trane1959, it was in unison with Wayne. Now who do you think is more likely to be out of tune, trumpet or soprano sax? Hint, it was Wayne.
