Whilst you have to have sympathy for these women and what was done to them was wrong you have to put it in context. The social norms at the time were quite different than today. Virtually the whole of Irish society know and condoned what was going on. I remember my mum(early 1970's) saying it is the consequences of taking a chance of bringing an illegitimate child into the world cos of your own selfishness and immorality - though she thought it unfair that the boys concerned got off scot free.
