Keep pouring those chemicals in your toilets folks. Take it from a plumber, I'm more than happy to come out and replace your pipes after the acid eats them out. Not to even mention your pouring that acid into water that eventually becomes our DRINKING WATER!
Muriatic acid can crack the toilet from heat. Can blind you, can make you look like a monster and Vinegar will work in several hrs. Cheaper and no storage issues. I used Acid for years, till it ate a hole in floor of my Van, a serious hole!
@ramonasplumber I use chemical gloves, a plastic apron and carry my funnel and jug of muriatic around in an empty 5 gal bucket with a lid. Still, I agree most people should stay away from it.
@hoz49 I am with you, I have carried gloves, goggles double container, a funnel etc. it is tough to be a full service Van. Look at the PH of Muriatic vs Vinegar they are one point away! I do Tankless exchanger flushing and 30 min. with Vinegar is all thats needed. And no one can tell me I poisoned them with Heinz Vinegar .
Over nite is best, if build up is heavy repeated treatments will be needed. If the ballcock is running the water will rinse out the vinegar so make sure the ballcock shuts off when water is near top of overflow tube. I have needed to treate 6 times to remove 1/4" build up before. let me know if you need anything else
Also the vinegar removes the water ring at the water level in the bowl. That mineral buildup is what looks bad and what all those tank mounted cleaners (bleach blobs both blue and white) are suposed to clean, but dont! Bleach only makes the minerial build up as white as the bowl and then you dont see it.

This is exactly the same way as I cleaned my coffee maker using the vinegar. But would also not work if we use CLR?

Yes, it is. So, as a result, I have to simulate problems for demonstration purposes.

Wow Greg, thanks for the quick & detailed response. 5 star rating.

You only do this once with a quart of vinegar?
Can you do it more than once to improve performance?
Do you leave it overnight and just flush it in the morning?
roughrider119 2 years ago
Very Useful!!! I'm gonna try that in the morning as I leave for work. Thanks for posting!!!
