  • i love audis. the olde auto union formula 1 car, is a hero car for me. the quattro is simply a evolution of that technology.

  • One of my all time favourite rally cars :)

  • 8 people are a bunch of sissies that can't even drive a bicycle.

  • music to my ears

  • I could give my half kidney for driving an S1 once in life.

  • I loove 1000 lakes. It's as close to death as you can on insane speed and trees just next to you

  • Oli se hirmu laite! Huh!

  • this car is just organic to see in action. To bad i was only 1 year back then. :/ They should come back!

  • This car deserves a grammy for best fucking loud performance

  • great audi

  • For all the Quattropheniacs watching this, at the stage start around 1:20, Blomqvist's car bogs down slightly at the first gearchange when compared with Mikkola. Why? He had no second gear at the time and was forced to start in 1st and then jump to 3rd. Didn't seem to affect his speed into the first corner mind :-))))

  • Nice word you used there, Quattropheniac, but you're quite right. He didn't seem to be slower than Mikkola.

  • @mvv44y yes , with 560 break horsepower on gravel it does not realy make a difference , i love the song this 5cylinder engine plays !!!

  • Rorhl=God

  • this vide has nothing to do with rorhl cause he never drived in finland :DD

  • I don't care about Finland, I think only to Walter when I see the S1. ( Michèle Mouton:)))) and I'm french :)

  • 1000 lakes rally (nowdays neste rally finland) has been most spectacular rally of all times and it means lot if some non scandinavian wins it so i think rorhl should even tried it

  • 1000 Lakes most spectacular rally of all times ??!! Are you crazy ? Beautiful absolutely, but not the best. Monte Carlo is a legend, one of the most selective ! Portugal too ! And you should watch Corsa Rally....

  • i've seen them but 1000 lakes has highest avg.speed (even higher than pikes peak) and huge jumps and its allways great battle when non skandinavian driver come to challenge skandinavian drivers on their homelands

  • and btw rorhls favourite car was lancia 037 and when you see audi you should think hannu mikkola he was in audi team from beginning to end and 83 world champion

  • nothing sings like the s1.

  • i LOOK OVER AND OVER AGAIN THIS GROUP B, AND...

  • Time when Finnish drivers dominate the rallyworld!

  • When I was a kid and that I heard the engine sound, I was like omg!! that's amazing!!! I never heard anything like that before! and I was wondering why this car doesnt sound like the others? Now I know...that sexy 5 cyl engine :D

  • 1:31 Mind the person at the lower right edge moving away...

  • Hello,Very Good Channel! Thank You.

    In My Channel

    MARCUS GRONHOLM 13.09.2008 RALLYCROSS+CRASH MARCUS

    Plese look,and raiting.

    GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY

  • I miss B-group,RIP Henri and Sergio.Flying Fins!

  • Audi owns all. Always. Today they are awesome too.

  • un monstre sur quatres roues

  • greatest-car-ever

  • Yeah, i love it too. I have seen the 1000 lakes 1985 stage Ouninpohja when they screw up Hannu Mikkola Audi to 750 hp when the engine was in the end. I get shaking just thinking about it.

    Audi enthusiast

  • 750 hp???

  • Yeah, in some interview audi guy sayd so. Official "model/registered" information of power is varying, in the beginning of 1984: 450HP -> to end of 85:591HP. There are different kind of information that in long rallyes there was in some situations 600+ HP in use. Short time power 700+ (As known, few minutes in Stage Ouninpohja 1985 before engine blowup) is also found in different motor sites.

  • Finnish drive told in one interwiew that they had like 1000hp in audi quattro in some races.

  • el mejor coxe de la historia

  • how do i get my car to spit flames like that?

  • i live for rally so i fully realize the pashion of the crawd.

  • I got 3.2 L V6 in my car and it never sound like those super car's :(

  • There is a lot more requested for such a sound then "just" a 3.2L V6 :)

  • well, its probably because this car have 5 cylinders.

  • Those car's was made for Finn's. Other's were scared as hell :)

  • I think it's just symptomatic of the increasingly 'safe' boring bullshit society we live in. We won't let our children climb trees, we keep reducing speed limits (without reducing the road toll) and we won't let professional rally drivers drive fast cars - even though they agree to it with full awareness of the dangers.

  • It was all the spectators fault they banned group B, nothing else.

When Toivonen died because of his car leaking gas that kinda took the piss out of everyone and they just banned it. :(

  • dont think the spectators was the factor., huge craches. lancia lost 2 drivers. they decided they were too fast to race

  • Well the combination of the fast cars and the dare devils such as the spectators was to factors that made them ban Group-B. Claiming that it was only the spectators fault is kinda navie.

  • hear

  • imagine if they had the tyre and suspension of today, even 10 years ago. the wrc cars of today wouldn't be smashing there records.

Y were they banned? I thought it was cause the drivers and co were dying but i heard in another video that it was coz spectators were. So its not the cars fault but raly organisers. Or did i here wrong?

  • The cars attracted way too many fans, and the fans were getting rather irresponsible and getting hit by cars.

  • true

  • imagine if they had the hydraulic shifting?

  • They had.

This particular one had a electrohydraulic-actuated double clutch transmission called the PDK or Porsche Doppelkupplung.

The predecessor to the DSG gearbox from Volkswagen or the S-tronic from Audi.

It still was faster then Formula 1 transmission until they finally came with seamless shift AMT's in 2006.

  • shit-hot, how motor-sport used to be.

  • BIG DRIVERS WITH BIG BALLS!!

  • Wow...The longer wheel base Quattro really tracks well at high speeds.

  • by the start the gas pedal is half way

others you have amazing wheel spinning and lozing time

  • This is rally not todays shit

  • sexiest sound in the world

  • Awesome - just awesome. God I miss group B!!!

  • group b cars are just incrediple light weight and amazing engine :D

  • wheres the video of the car of marcus lindholm, marcus grunholms cousin, when he rolled her over backwards, when he hit a ditch backwards,

  • Well It's not here!

  • that is true

  • @pavementsucks1 Try looking for his real name, Sebastian Lindholm and you might en up having some results. No pun intended. ;)

  • the touraeg has a 2.5l 5 pot diesel dakar

  • nice sound...best than a F1

  • And my car has 5 wheels...

  • Mine too. I keep the spare in the trunk.

Finland has about 187 888 lakes actually.

  • Finland has 10,000 Lakes! Take that!

  • Great!!! Group B Power

  • Fuckin AWESOME!!

  • rally is god if you get a good vantage pointe

  • The best video of this car i've ever seen is Michelle Mouton driving the Acropolis rally with this monsterous car!

  • How to make a rally fan smile for 3 mins... show them this video!

  • Some of those shots give me the heebie-jeebies, for a different reason: people should NEVER be on the outside of a bend, directly in the path of the car if it loses traction and comes off. Some of the cameras broke that rule too; a couple of feet and a fraction of a second from a nasty end. 8(

  • That's what rallying in Europe was like back in the 80s/GroupB era!

  • vw jetta 2.5 l is inline 5, hmmmmm

  • never will be the same again.

  • viendo estos videos se me pone la carne de gallina mientras la mesa tiembla con el ruido de los motores.

  • Alex,

What I see here is a time when the car and driver were really one in the same. While I applaud the drivers of today it does seem that computer mgmnt has made for an easier time of it compared driving an Audi Group B. I've read of how difficult the Audi was to control and that alone says volumes. Group B was pure unadulterated racing.

  • my GOD I would love to get my hands on one of those nasty lil buggers, or at least one of their wastegates

(thats right ricer boys, that IS a wastegate you are hearing....NOT a BOV)

  • I was fortunate to see Group B cars first hand in rallycross spec in the late 80's, The Quattro S1 always my favorite especially Swede Olle Arnessons 800 BHP version, absolutely brutal.

  • no abs or traction control, I believe? =)

I love watching that "dip" these killer B's do when braking for a corner. Group B had it's era, for life-threatening reasons, it was a good thing their time came to an end.

yet, I can't help but respect the drivers and co-drivers considering the technology they had back then. simply amazing driving skills handling these beasts.

  • None at all. These cars are what manufacturers tested their new ideas on before they used them in their road cars. 4WD(Audi) and many other things today all came because of Group B. The most extreme and skillful driving theres been. If someone can handle a Group B car they can handle everything

  • Great footage. This video further reinstates the fact that rallying is the most beneficial form of motorsport for the cars we drive on the road. Its a shame that Audi does not compete in the current WRC!

  • The a3 would be an option with the 2.0 Tfsi engine + quattro :D

  • the car noise it's just amazing... group B car were banned because they were considered dangerous, having around 500bhp or more... nowadays, the wrcs "just" have 300hp, but I think with all the technology that we have now compared to the 80s, their power should be risen to the 500s or so, they wouldn't be as dangerous as the group Bs but would e much more spectacular than they are...

  • GrpB Audis send chilllllzzzzz down my spine.

The raw power & sound is something to bring back to WRC. Get rid of the sequential gearboxes & puny turbo inlets (& maybe limit it to RWD!)

  • Are the Group B cars of the 80's faster than today's WRC models?

  • I should imagine in terms of straight line speed then Group B cars are faster, but around the corners modern WRCs would be much quicker. I think they would have the same tourqe output too so same acceleration.

  • @lukeharvey2006 group B make same times as modern WRC cars

  • Gekko,

They are still faster in a straight line, but the brakes are far worse. I really miss those Group B cars, they had what made your skin crawl. I know I sound like an old fart, but by just watching this you might wonder what could have been had they not banned them.

  • @gekko14 oh yer the quattro was runing about 600bhp - 750bhp but audi keeped that secret

  • @MrHyper728 Same with peugeot, changing the turbo they got from 500 to 700hp (depends which race you were driving)...

  • @gekko14 WRC="300" hp, B-Group=Unlimited, Audi S1 570hp. Of Course those cars suspension/brakes a far away todays WRC Cars...

I once see here YTube video, B-Group vs WRC, and B-Car was just a litt-le fastier. But just a really little bit, just like a 80's F1 Cars, Huge power on fast/much of straights is fast but of course in track where are plenty of corners those old cars are slower than a "todays" becouse suspension and brakes are so much better today.

  • @Hiikeri But they are still, MOST POWERFULL Rally Cars ever. And the most soundiest, Really Drivers cars, no today cars "helps"!

  • Buenisimo que suban estos videos

  • a super car.... unforgettables times

  • Saatana uskomatonta!!!

  • That`s more like it ;)

  • Awesome video.

  • Excellent

  • Audi Quattro = Darth Wader

  • i wonder what that car would do on the 1/4 mile

  • This car makes the very very special noise -

    and it's really great!

  • a little torque cars...

  • What a noise!Just wonderful!

  • down and dirty broup b rallying, gon pretty boy nascar sisses, trry to tame this monster on ice and snow with 650 bhp nad awd, bring it on,

  • all this without a computer in sight.they were the rally kings

  • lets see a pretty boy benz try and hang with this north west german masterpiece

  • That is exactly how I used to drive my

1983 audi turbo quattro coupe, handbuilt, tuff as nails!

  • walter rhol once said that was the most dificult car to drive...imagine 600 cv and less than 100 kilos....

  • çÇ

  • audi rules yaaaaaaaa

  • Huge downforce + rally car = insanity.

  • and it also equals AMAZING!

  • that magical distinctive 5-cylinder sound - nice:)

  • Brilliant! I can at last put this on my bebo :D Thanks Luke!
