    well maybe in high school in college and HS ive been taught to keep my back on the bench. unless it archs naturally. but its still impressive even though i didnt see another 45 plate.

  • @wildman473 Tuck shoulder blades and arch your back. Prevents you from putting strain on your shoulders and the arch makes you go down less because you don't need to. It's the CORRECT way to bench press. Any real bodybuilder/power lifter does it.

The whole reason for power lifting is to build power and strength, I bet my flat 405 bench could take yours or his raise hips and arch back bench, ill have more power because I actually use the muscles that are SUPPOSED to be used, raising your hips use your lower body, bench is all shoulders, upper back, triceps, and chest

  • @TheRandomSanta your going to have to work hard to get to that. There is going to be plateaus in your lifting career were you probably won't gain weight on the bench for a couple of weeks or months. We had a freshman that lifted 265 and as a senior lifter 375.

  • I only bench 300, and Im a decent sized boy (6'4'' and 255), but constantly go against people bigger and stronger than me. One boy benched pressed 450 but I handled him pretty good and that does not make sense. I guess it is because I have great hip explosion power so make sure when yall work out to work on explosiveness too.

  • I have lifted 370 with perfect form and have a video on my facebook of it. I tried 375 but when locking out it got hung up in the rack and I was pushing against the bench its self! pissed me off. I will try it again my next chest workout and film it for youtube. I am also 18 and weigh 237

  • I agree. I actually graduated from AHS and I hit 355 when I weighed 152, never quite could break it, but then again I stayed flat on the bench and I had no belt or straps. He's right though when he says tricep work is key in improving your bench. I set the record (wrestling, mind you) for full dips at 92.

  • @CptJackSparrow50 arg I can deadlift like 230 but I can only olympic press like 100 two or three times thats good I gained about 20 more pounds of lifting strength over two months so I suppose I'm doing alright for 172. I gain weight, I lose it but I don't take protein or gay ass roids. I'm going to be all natural.

  • ok, yea, guess i need to train harder. one thing i'm realizing is this: i havent been doing flat bench ("real bench"), my gym only has the smith machine. then, i also stopped doing dumbbells, so my free weight bench strength dropped dramatically....on top of all that, i NEVER used to bench w/ full range (touch and stop on chest), so i'm workin on that too.

    my goal in a year or more/less is to hit 225 lbs. i'm weaker now, due to change in motion and the machine, i hope i get stronger!
