Yes of course no one does this like Stevie - and I LOVE Stevie too - but I think this is pretty good. I don't know who this Jonas guy is, but I think he has some guts doing this song - and I like his tougher take on it. It shows what a great songwriter Stevie is - and what a great song this is. It's great and gutsy artists like this that keep Stevie's music alive for future generations! Speaking of that, check out Goo Goo Dolls' version of "I Don't Want to Know".
Nobody can rock this song like Stevie. She's incomparable. However, this is good interpretation. I like the ominous heavy, almost desperate, tone that Jonas gives to the song. It takes on a different vibe when a man sings this.
It sounds like they covered it just for the sake of covering a famous rock song and not because they actually appreciated the original. Not saying they didn't truly appreciate the original, just saying what the cover sounds like.
I kind of like that they tried to make it heavier and I don't mind the male voice, but I don't like the direction they went and some of the inflections he makes annoy me such as on the lines "In the web that is my own/I begin again". I especially don't like the introduction; they changed it too much and it starts out too intense. I think in trying to put their spin on the song, the band lost the original meaning.
I'm also all for well-done covers, and like to see new twists on good songs. What I don't like is when artists cover songs with deeply personal lyrics and try to create a different meaning with them. For example, this song isn't about a tumultuous relationship with a sexy teenager, which is what this video would lead you to assume.
Don't get me wrong i think its a good twist on an old song, but i'm not a fan. Stevie's version is hard to cover. this song is very femme. the film clip kinda sucks too. each to there own but i'm not a fan.
In order to cover a song, you're EXPECTED to change it a little. He isn't trying to be Stevie Nicks, you would think that would be obvious. He put his spin on it for the people who appreciate well done covers. Of course some will stick to the original, Stevie is fantastic, but people need to be a little more open minded. People make covers everyday and let their own style and sound flow through it. If you don't like it, you're entitled to your opinion, but he is talented, let him be.
You're all aware that in order for him to sell it on a CD, he has to get the artist's permission, right? I have no doubt that Stevie Nicks has heard this version, and Lindsay Lohan's as well.
Lohans attempt, while crappy, I can kind of deal with. But if Madame Stevie hears this version of her hauntingly powerful, beautiful song, she will whirl like a Dervish!! This thing is a bigger mess than an airplane flying into a flaming school bus full of handicapped kids! It sucks crap through a crazy straw!!!!!
he doesnt have a bad voice, a very nice rock timbre...
I wouldnt mind teaching him how to sing.. he does some basic things wrong like using his throat to get his growl sound instead of lifting his cheeks, if he had some coaching he could be genuinely really good...
This "Jonas" band needs to give it up and leave it to the professionals, i.e. Stevie and Fleetwood (I've seen the "Daddy" video on the sidebar)
Even though sometimes Stevie sounds like a Goat, she definitely grunts way sexier than that guy. He just sounds like he needs to take a sh*t. Oh well, not everybody can be a mystical witch!
I love stevie nicks version. This isnt the greatist cover ever, But its not bad. The video is ghey and the dude looks very full of himself. I prefer stevie nicks version but this version is Ok.

This is better than Stevie Nicks. All of them are. I may only think this because Stevie Nicks was older and didn't have the modern instruments we have today, but honestly, even Lindsay Lohan's cover for this song is better. Stevie Nicks's version... ugh.
That cover stinks worse than the biggest pile of steaming, stinking, crap ever. That dude sings like a pretensious moron and is seriously over-working the vocal to prove what a stud he is. Don't take a song with beautiful deep and intense passion and PRETEND you are doing the same. It's not the same. It's hollow and fake and full of macho bull. This makes me appricate Stevie EVEN MORE than I already do. OMG this is hideous. One of the worst covers I've ever heard.
i wonder if Adam Lambert will sing this for next week's theme on American Idol? theme is year you were born, and he was born 1982...will my prediction come true? it's either this song or Pac Man Fever.
there is a rumored spoilers goin round that adam will sing edge of seventeen....personally i dont think its the best song choice but he has a way of making me like any song he does heh
I don't think improving upon the song is the point of covering it. I think LL just thought it was a lovely song just like everyone else and felt like doing a version of it.
Why would anybody use the word "tard"...although I guess it does make you sound intelligent...NOT! It is ok...go listen to him and like him...it really will be OK..you can get through this.
I say tard because I am different, unlike you. I say tard because I want to. And no matter what you say....you can't change that. Tard.
and I will go listen to Jonas right now because I do like him. I think you should go listen to Stevie Nicks because you like her. I actually do like Stevie Nicks, her son "Rhiannon" gave me my name. I just prefer this version of Edge of Seventeen.
Jonas rocks! Im from Quebec like him (Montreal) and i just have to say Quebec puts out some good musicians! Leonard Cohen is also kick ass... Celine Dion? Not so much, but she does have a set of pipes
WOOT!!! when lindsay lohan did this song, she sounded like a slut. oh, and, the jonas brothers stole jonas' fire. i hate the freaking "jo bros" SOOOOO much...
I don't know who this guy is, I never heard of him before, but all I have to say his rendition of this song is fucking downright incredible. Stevie Nicks would be more than proud.

This guys who ripped the song shouldn't be singing it, well unless they lost there virginity to a man also HAHAHAHA. This band sucks hard!!!!
Stevie Nicks wrote Edge Of Seventeen about the death of her uncle and the death of John Lennon. The line "words from a poet and a voice from a choir" refers to Lennon. She got the title from talking with Tom Petty's wife when she asked her how long they'd known each other. With a strong southern accent she said "at the age of seventeen". Stevie thought she said "at the edge of seventeen".
This is so wrong. So..wrong. No one else should try. Stevie Nicks is the ONLY one who can do this right.

This version is really cool.
Stevie's is better, of course. The fact that a woman could pull this song off in 1981 is a big deal.
The fact that a guy is copying a woman's song is a testament to the songwriting skills of that woman.
I don't even think that Lindsey Buckingham could improve on Stevie's version of this song.
But I believe that Jonas knew a good song when he heard hit, and decided to do a cover version of it.
